Sequel to a 2014 movie
VetteRanger29 October 2022
Andy Holliday, the character, was introduced in 2014 in Christmas Under Wraps, a Candace Cameron Bure vehicle. In that movie, she came to the town of Garland as a doctor, fell in love with Andy, and decided to stay.

Here a reference is made to that movie, as Andy tells his old/new love interest he had a romance with a doctor who was offered a grant and decided to leave. Jodie Sweetin as Erika is supposed to be a girlfriend he had BEFORE that when living in Seattle. Now she's in town to buy his struggling inn for her boss, and he's struggling with the decision to give up on all the work he put into it even though he's broke and in debt.

I wondered if they decided to "stick it to" Bure since she left Hallmark for a contract with GAF. LOL

The movie was enjoyable enough, but the out-of-town developer going after the local inn (or other business) is a very tired trope by now, and some of the scenes here seemed a bit over the top. Worth a watch but not a rewatch to my taste.

Bad Rehash of a better story. Bad writing
crosemnnc9 November 2022
This story would have been great if it had not tried to use the same characters and settings as in Christmas Under Wraps. Made is seem like your love stories are destined to fail. Jodie's character was great and she portrayed it wonderfully. She didn't come off as a power hungry executive. She came off as a caring individual that genuinely cared about other people. Her character with different characters and actors , actresses and settings would have been a great movie. It was wholesome which is different for Hallmark these days, but this one missed the mark. Could have been a nine or ten star movie. Writers should be ashamed. Maybe Hallmark is just running out of material.

That's Hallmark For Ya
haa41 November 2022
As a stand alone movie, this was really good. Jodie Sweetin was great in this, the supporting characters were fun, and it was well written too.

As a sequel to Hallmark's top rated movie of all time (Christmas Under Wraps), this was insulting to network viewers. The movie was filmed in a different location. They should have just brought in a new love interest or not had it be a sequel at all. Instead, Hallmark new leadership chose to destroy the integrity of the first movie by negating the happy ending and destroying the love story that we all watched in that film. I don't think I can ever watch Christmas Under Wraps again. What is it with this new leadership not knowing how to tell uplifting love stories? This has been an ongoing pattern for well over a year now. They don't understand their audience.

Didn't live up to a sequel,of sorts anyway..
ts-000029 October 2022
Did it actually snow, during the making if this film? Because the differences when snow fell was noticeable, from getting on actors & surrounding areas.. Honestly they fail otherwise at making snow look decent, with their white blankets & so forth.

Far as the movie was rather bland, wasn't horrible but nothing special.. They could of used a whole new cast,as this was a lame sequel.

Liked the Inn and the cafe, but rest was old stock video & basically a zoom call.. Which was odd, since dad & son lived in"Thats Garland For You!" Plus he visited mom too.

So did Hallmark save money bringing dad on location,by making it look like he lived at his company(during the busy season?🙄)Really different versus 2014 version, when he got harped on about his health.

Anyway dad really offered nothing(new)to storyline, didn't interact with anyone relevant(in-person)like his kid or wife so his role was handled cheaply.

Hardly any towns people were around, everything was within walking distance as usual.. They briefly showed the town, but was stock footage so does that count?

Clichéd storyline,but expected with Hallmark.

Guess can say was cast ok,acting passable & cinematography decent.

Not a movie to watch,again.. Unlike Christmas Under Wraps.

This is a sequel of sorts
Jackbv12329 October 2022
This could be just another movie based on one of the more common tropes in Christmas movies. Junior executive, Erika, is dangled a promotion if she can close a deal that involves a former boyfriend. Andy. Meanwhile, the Andy's business isn't doing so well. But that's only all there is to it If you didn't watch the earlier movie, Christmas Under Wraps. This is a sequel of sorts. Candace Cameron Bure's Dr. Lauren Brunell, who was well on her way to having an HEA with Andy at the end of that one now appears to be out of the picture with Andy. The explanation which comes later seems to contradict the CUW story.

Andy and his father are both played by the original actors. And there is still a "family business" that does shipping which a viewer of CUW will understand, wink, wink. If you haven't seen CUW, it would be fun the watch that first.

Erika is subjected to some of the same gags and mysteries as in the earlier movie, but it is still kind of fun to watch her cope. Throw in the rekindling relationship between Andy and Erika. The main tension in this movie is the sale of the inn which is Andy's dream. Erika is obsessed with the parallel to Gift of the Magi. The story gets bound up in it and I think a little too much.

Jodie Sweetin and David O'Donnell have good chemistry. Sweetin does a nice job with this role. The dialogue is decent and so is the acting.

Fairly typical of the genre, but not one of the bad ones.

A Cozy Christmas Inn (2022) -

It was interesting to find out that this was a sequel (Fortunately to one that I had already seen) and as a result it was unusual then to think that the romance of the previous film obviously hadn't stuck. Maybe the loves found in these made for TV Christmas films aren't forever after all? My whole outlook on life is ruined. Although, to be honest, my Christmas miracle is way overdue.

My first impression of this film, as with its predecessor 'Christmas Under Wraps' (2014), was that it was a sort of gender reversal of the TV series 'Northern Exposure' (1990-5), in which a big city doctor was sent to the sticks to learn some humility. That's not exactly the storyline here, but an old romance was rekindled in a very northern town covered in snow and the residents all had their own little quirks similarly to the residents of the town in the program.

Some of those residents were actually a bit much, but I suppose the idea of the film was that there was a secret magic that they needed to protect, which gave it a small element of humour and fantasy, that these characters were meant to fulfil by being a tad, let's say, kooky.

With that said, Vivica A. Fox, playing Sharon, was ridiculously over the top too and she was one of the city folk. I really don't know why she keeps getting a high billing in these films, she's a bit part actor like all of the rest and I honestly don't think that she's done anything good since 'Independence Day' (1996).

David O'Donnell (Andy) on the other hand had the most mesmerising eyes that I have seen since they did something to Westlife in their video for 'Flying Without Wings'.

He was definitely the best part of this film, but I did like him as a couple with Jodie Sweetin as Erika, the romantic story of the film.

As for Brian Doyle Murray in the role of Andy's Dad, I would say that Andy needed to hurry up and take over from him as the boss of the family business, before he croaked it, because Brian wasn't looking too healthy at all, bless him.

I didn't think that it was necessary to have seen the first film (Christmas Under Wraps) to understand this one, although the magic was a bit easier to understand and spot with the knowledge already in my mind having seen that one.

6/10.

Less than cosy

'A Cozy Christmas Inn' (2022)

Opening thoughts: Hallmark have done a lot of above average and more films and that has definitely been obvious in their 2022 output. 2022 did see quite a number of misfires in pretty much every seasonal block, but there were also quite a few that didn't sound appealing but were better than expected. Have never been one of those people who immediately judges something negatively. Have always seen a Hallmark film knowing what to expect while not expecting too much, but many have met and even exceeded expectations.

'A Cozy Christmas Inn' is a sequel to 'Christmas Under Wraps' (which this viewer did like if not loved) yet with Jodie Swetin rather than Candace Cameron Bure. Will admit to questioning its necessity, as 'Christmas Under Wraps' didn't strike me as a film that needed a sequel and sequels generally don't have good reputations with obvious exceptions. Did still see the film as someone who likes Swetin and as someone who has been pleasantly surprised by several Hallmark sequels. 'A Cozy Christmas Inn' is one of those that didn't work and was very pointless.

Good things: Returning David O'Donnell gives the best, and actually the only good, performance, bringing subtle charisma and easy going charm to the only character to have any degree of likeability.

Did think that the scenery was quite nice.

Bad things: Sadly, the good things pretty much end there. Swetin's performance is rather half-hearted and mailed in, and her character has very little spark. Same with the chemistry between her and O'Donnell, which is very underdeveloped and bland. Meanwhile, the whole supporting cast overact and come over as annoying hammy caricatures. This is including the usually good Vivica A. Fox. The characters are mostly dreary, oboxious or both. The exception is O'Donnell, but even he had a lot more spark before.

Furthermore, the script is weak. Even weaker than that for 'Christmas Under Wraps', much more awkward sounding and the cheese and corn factors are amplified. The music and direction are both drab. The story is too much of a tired rehash, albeit with significantly less charm and heart, very pedestrian pacing and a real over-serious dreariness. The ending is indeed a slap in the face, and undoes pretty much all that happened in the predecessor.

Concluding thoughts: In summary, weak and pointless.

Love Jodie!
hallmarkmov2 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love anything Jodie is in and to my surprise this movie started off very familiar. I thought they were recycling old movie plots but then all the characters were the same too! I much prefer Jodie over Candace so to have her actually replace her from Christmas under wraps made me laugh. It's a cute story and lovely scenic shots. Small town, outsider comes in to buy the property but surprise it's her ex's property. The mean boss who over works her and dangles the promotion carrot in front of her to get the deal done but the Christmas spirit saves the day. I loved all the Christmas sweaters but was disappointed no reindeers in this one. With the previous gf gone, does that mean there is no town doctor? Did everyone get sick and die so new characters had to appear? The ending felt uninspiring and there was no fake aurora borealis but there was a giant telescope. I'm not sure how I wanted it to end but it would be nice for the movie to end like how Candace's movies end where she gets an even bigger promotion than she expected from the start of the movie. In this one Jodie is unemployed with an inn that's going under! But the rest of the movie was a wonderful Christmas movie. I'll be watching it again.

Compared to 'Christmas Under Wraps'
MickyG33329 November 2023
7.2 stars.

So if you haven't seen part 1, which was 8 years prior, then you will be fine, no need; this sequel does not hinge on it at all. This is not particularly a sequel rather than just another film set in the same backdrop. There is an elderly jolly fellow named Frank Holliday who is strangely similar to Santa, and his son Andy is strangely elfish, but that could be a coincidence. There are multiple people that work for his father in this shipping company in this town in the middle-of-nowhere Alaska. Just like in the prior film, there is a lot of mystery surrounding the town and people, and they like to keep it quaint and small. But none of this is emphasized or focused upon for more than scant moments here and there. The real plot is about a love story that resumes between Andy and Erika. Erika was his first love, which happened sometime prior to 2014. But in 2014 he met and fell in love with Dr. Brunell (Candace Cameron Bure) in the 'Under Wraps' film. Then the doctor left for a fellowship or something, so now here we are 8 years after that, and he's having a romantic connection with Erika once again. I guess he's been single for 8 years?

Which sista from 'Full House' gots the goods on Andy? I guess it's whichever one of them is out-Hallmarking the other, in this case Bure is doing more films for another network, so she's on the back burner, but Sweetin's Hallmark career seems to be in the deep freeze. I give this one to Sweetin, just barely, but there is nothing that stands out. The romance seems slightly more authentic and the facts are more believable. I think the location is a bit different, but it's unclear. I think I saw this inn showcased in at least one other Hallmark movie. Also, like I said of the other film, the north pole is closer to Fairbanks and beyond than Anchorage, get it right, ask some Alaskans for some advice and make the data accurate. 0.1 better than the first.

Countdown to Christmas sadness continues!
RenT-8306531 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is a depressing "sequel" of sorts to Christmas Under Wraps. Sadly, hallmark has undone many years of what they have built by simply giving us a break up to their own happily ever after. There's no reason to even bring all these characters back if the explanation is that Andy and Lauren from Christmas Under Wraps simply broke up. Why can't we just believe in happily ever after? For crying out loud, Hallmark, it's Christmas.

Giving the movie five stars simply because I found it quite hilarious Hallmark replaced Candace with Jodi, lol. We all know CCB jumped ship and this movie puts a huge spotlight on it. They should have just kept Garland going and changed the leads. Send Andy and Lauren to San Francisco and off in our memories enjoying their happy ending. Definitely not watching again. Wishing Countdown to Christmas gets better. So far, we're off to a depressing start.

Insert Quirky Music Here...
D3ViN30 October 2022
Hallmark has a cookie cutter standard. Usually a meet cute or meeting an old crush/love. Business ventures etc... take a step back from analyzing the script, just enjoy.

One thing to know is every year around october to christmas have been filmed a year before or more than the pandemic. That is why Jodi was in Europe.

Be gracious with your reviews because actresses work hard.

On The Real Though, Alaska had a big weather system rolling through during filming with earthquakes and everything.

Ipsum yadda yadda lorem etc et cetera

review some other movies because you all are the type that give bad reviews lowering the rating, goto rotton tomatoes or something.

He should have sold the Inn and moved back to Seattle.
rebekahrox30 October 2022
This was a bit of a disappointment as I have grown to really like Jodie Sweetin and respect her work. I just ignored the fact that it was a sequel to a Candace C-B romance. It's not a real good idea to give Hallmark fans the idea that Happy Endings may not survive the test of time. It's kind of a buzz-kill.

This one did not survive the initial smell test. Why in the world would an international property developer want to buy a second rate B & B 300 miles north of Anchorage. Huh? And I say second rate, because check out Jodie's hotel room. I think white collar crime federal penitentiaries have fancier rooms minus the king sized bed. The Christmas decorations were ugly and fake.

I didn't like that Andy gave up his lucrative plane taxi service to fail at being an innkeeper. Not very romantic hero-like. The townspeople, especially the café owner were very annoying. Marinating some kind of meat in eggnog? I couldn't get that out of my mind. I like the subtle fun hints that Santa was his Dad. That was well done, if kind of incredible. I also liked that Jody had integrity and didn't push him to sell the place. Although actually not encouraging him to take the money and run was kind of against his best interests. Vivica Fox, her boss, did her job, and looked fantastic.

Absolute garbage
lauraly-8158213 November 2022
Hallmark is ruining all of our beloved shows. They took one of my favorite Hallmark Christmas movies "Christmas Under Wraps" and completely destroyed the happy ending. This movie is a sort of sequel to that film where the main male actor is falling in love with another woman now. What?!! Are you kidding me?! Not sure what they are thinking, but I made it 5 minutes into this realizing I already knew these characters from the other movie. They swapped out Candace Cameron for Jodie sweetinthinking that would be cute I guess since they were sisters on full house, but even that couldn't save this train wreck. What a joke! Hallmark needs to do better.

That's Garland For You - Part 2
SunnyDaise27 December 2022
This movie was funnier than the first part 'Christmas Under Wraps' and built well on the Garland setting. I don't mind that it was a different love interest - realistic as some relationships don't work out, plus it was amusing to have Jodie Sweetin replace Candace Cameron Bure (on-screen sister for decades on 'Full House' & 'Fuller House'). Now they need a third instalment with Andrea Barber and they really would have a Full House. She could be a journalist investigating Holliday Shipping in a movie called 'Christmas Undercover'. Although A Cozy Christmas Inn has no children, it is fine for all ages to watch - I enjoyed all the characters being over 35, we need more TV like that.

Horrible
lorrainehornig-833-5030736 November 2022
I would not call this a sequel. Christmas Under Wraps was superior in every way. There is absolutely no chemistry between Erika and Andy. The entire storyline seems wooden and the story tries too hard to capture (unsuccessfully) the magic of the original "Christmas Under Wraps". The charm of the original Garland, Alaska is gone and somehow Garland General Hospital has vanished. It is a shame that Candace Cameron Bure has left the Hallmark network and in my opinion it was a mistake for her to have done so. Jodie Sweetin just doesn't have the same appeal. Hallmark made a big mistake with this one.

Enjoyable and Ties in Well to the Original
jazznu5 July 2023
I think people need to be honest with themselves on this one. If Christmas Under Wraps is one of your favorite Hallmark holiday movies, you don't even need to bother to give this one a shot, you've very likely already decided it's not good and are starting off assuming you won't like it and just nitpicking, finding problems with it that you'd barely pose an objection to if it was another movie.

If you like Hallmark movies and enjoyed Christmas Under Wraps, but it's not one of your faves and you don't mind someone other than Candace as the lead actress, then most likely you'll like this just fine.

This is basically a well done Hallmark movie, not spectacular, but better than average. I'd give it a 7/10 most times, but because they do such a good job of tying this into the original, I'm bumping it to a 8.

You've got some returning characters in addition to Andy, the town still has it's quirks, you see them here and they are almost all familiar in a nice way. You have Andy's storyline from the original getting some added depth of what we learned before, but it all ties in. We knew about his life in Seattle before, his previous relationship with Erika makes perfect sense and actually, their history and the way it's woven in also ties in well to the original and makes their relationship seem on much steadier ground. David and Jodie have a nice feel to them, the chemistry isn't sparkling, but I wouldn't say that was the case in the original either with David and Candace, just that it worked. I think the original was a bit funnier than this one is, but all in all, this is very well done. It's more of a follow up than a sequel.

The only thing this doesn't have is Candace and I truly think people would do well to skip it if that's a hang up for them. Because again, if people want to be honest, they'd admit that it isn't the stretch they are making it out to be that Lauren and Andy didn't work out. She was a doctor set on a prestigious hospital fellowship in a big city that got overconfident with where she applied and had to go with not just a backup plan, but her only option in a remote small town that she got duped into going to. That's the actual stated storyline that you get in the first 15 minutes of Christmas Under Wraps. She fell in love with Andy and the town and decided to stay, but nothing about the situation resembled what she had imagined for herself. It makes sense that it didn't work out for her to remain in Garland. It's not a hard jump to make so If your mind can't get there, you're never gonna like this follow up.

And I get it, I can think of others that I like where I wouldn't be a fan of a this switch up, but I'd also say, that again, the Christmas Under Wraps setup was so wildly off from what Lauren was looking for originally, and I think that's key here in giving this follow up a chance. Most other Hallmark movies aren't asking the woman to torch everything she worked for to stay with the guy, and that is what Lauren was doing by staying in Garland. Her dream was not to be a small town doctor, it wasn't even her dream to be a GP, she was set on being a surgeon. I think the original is enjoyable, but I never thought it was believable in a modern context. Other than Erika's boss even knowing about this far away inn with barely a customer and wanting to buy it, this setup seems more solid and believable than the original. It's a second chance romance, no more, no less.

A slap in the face!!
Marynewcomb201329 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is a slap in the face and middle finger to Candace!! The writing is crap! The same woman that wrote the screenplay for Christmas Under Wraps wrote this but CUW she had people telling her what the story was, not on this!! Here is an example of what I mean. In CUW, the town of Garland is remote & three hours from anchorage! In this, it's two hours away and you can get there from anchorage by driving!!

The town was in a mountainous valley in CUW! This, you see the tundra of northern Alaska as they get to town!! They didn't even film in the same location as CUW! This town is completely different! They call the inn a B & B in the description but you can see it's an actual hotel that's been decorated! The room Jodi's character is staying in is clearly a hotel room when you see it!!

The chemistry between the cast is nonexistent!! If you have seen Jodi in Merry & Bright & even when she was younger on Full House, you saw a bright, happy actor! In this she is just acting to get a paycheck!! Same with the guy's playing Andy & his dad!! Hattie is over acting compared to CUW!! Let's not leave out the fake as they come character Fox played!! That was completely unbelievable!! The poor excuse for why Andy wasn't with the Dr. Now is laughable!! The trolls & fakers will hate hearing truth about this!! This is the most honest review you will get from someone who actually watched the movie on Hallmark at 8pm last night, (10-28-2022) on Frndly!!

What a MESS!
LovesMyGarden6 November 2022
Christmas Under Wraps was wonderful! Hallmark's highest rated movie ever. This poor substitute had nothing going for it. Jodie's best friend was annoying and overbearing. Her boss (vivica fox) was even worse. Jodie didn't have near the chemistry with Andy as Candace Cameron Bure did. The characters were under-developed, boring and uninteresting. The scenery in CUW was perfect. It was so awful in this mess. Hallmark should NEVER make a movie that destroys another movie's "happily ever after". The happy ending is what draws us in to Hallmark movies. Did Hallmark fire all their competent writers and directors? Watched once. That was enough!

Fantastic

Great movie - Jody is awesome and such a great actress. Love that the sequel brought back original cast.it is a simple story, with love interests, cookies and why we watch Hallmark. There is nothing wrong with stories with lots of baking and cookies as well as hot chocolate. I think we need more movies with Jody. I would love to stay in a hotel similar to the one in this movie. All the rooms were decorated beautifully with Christmas trees and other festive decorations. I also like some of the implied careers of some of the characters in the movie. It made me laugh and also feel warm inside. Definitely a good watch.

Bottom of the barrel
RickVee15 July 2023
Easily one if the worst TV movies I've e er had the displeasure of seeing. Jodie Sweetin is unbelievably bad and the story is dumb. How a project like this ever got the green light is mystifying. Sweetin should give whatever money she made on this film to a charity because she clearly have little to no effort and basically just phoned her performance in. The dialogue was really bad but Sweetin's 'acting' didn't exactly help out. Hallmark needs to step its game up from drivel like this. There have to be actors who would be far superior to what they served up in this film. Did the film's director actually direct the actors at all? Sweetin's acting as a kid in Full House was much better than what we see in this movie. But maybe she no longer cares and is just looking to cash a paycheck. Whatever the case is she should not be starring in these Hallmark films any longer. It's that bad.

Supporting cast timing is way off ruins movie
keeganmelissa31 October 2022
The timing of the the Supporting cast is getting worse .why is the writing or directing so bad. The audience is not dumb and if things dont get better this will be my last year watching the network . It used to be good I would watch five great movies and one not very well acted . Now its a hit or a miss. Please do not keep this this pattern up . I think the movies and series that have more dialogue make more sense . They focus on the supporting cast to stretch the scenes and they over act then it ruins the movie . The lady at the cafe over acted so much it ruined it . They script was so bad they kept repeating a line over and over .

A really bad redo
ditrico3 February 2023
If you're going to basically remake an earlier movie, it should be better than the first.

This wasn't. Horrible acting. Terrible writing. Why can't Hallmark figure out humor, btw?

Sweetin seems like something is dulling her down. Someone get her a cup of coffee...and not one of those empty prop cups !

I don't know what they were thinking by doing this. Maybe it was a shot at Buré. If so, the missed wildly. My expectations for a Hallmark Christmas movies are pretty low to begin with. So for me to give it such a low rating is something. I don't think Jody has what it takes for a leading role.

Was a good movie, but....
jenrn-0972230 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Was a cute movie. But I felt that Hallmark should have done this with different characters instead of recycling the characters from Christmas Under Wraps. It felt unnecessary. This didn't have any of the 'Santa Claus implications' the other movie had and the leading man had a whole different career interest. He was a handy man going into "the family business" in the first movie, now suddenly wants nothing to do with the family business in this movie. This was a good movie with decent writing, decent dialogue, character and relationship development - if you hadnt seen the first movie. The cast does a great job and there was good chemistry with the leads. The story and character behaviors were very different from the first movie, however, which is why it should have been a stand alone movie. By using the same characters and contradicting the other movie, this just felt like an attempt to erase CCB, or at best, writers with no new ideas. Hoping to see some original movie ideas the rest of the Christmas season.
