- Paul still not having a job places a strain on his and Cathy's financial situation with mounting medical bills. Paul has to make a decision to wait for the perfect job, to do freelance work without insurance, or take any job that has insurance. He is hoping that a meeting with his old friend Jimmy will lead to the first of those three. Cathy makes a unilateral decision for some one time immediate cash. In the process of getting that money, Cathy ends up spending the day with Lee, that day which takes an unexpected turn for her. Meanwhile, Adam makes another decision on how best to relieve his sexual frustration since Mia still wants to take things slow. Adam's actions result in him needing to turn to someone to get him out of a jam. That someone ends up being Sean who offers his own form of a solution to the problem.—Huggo
- Cathy imagines she is in a boxing ring, ready to fight her enemy -- cancer. A calming voice helps her visualize her cancer. She pictures a lucha libre fighter. The soothing voice urges her on as she cracks a chair over the cancer's head. Then the soothing voice starts skipping and Cathy is startled from her meditation.
She comes downstairs to find Sean going through her fridge, looking for a baby-sized pot roast to try out the home made sling he made from dish towels and pot holders. He places a melon in it and it promptly splats. Cathy reminds him babies are fragile. "Every time Adam does something stupid I wonder if it's because I dropped him on that skating rink," Cathy says. "Oh no, he does stupid s--- because I dropped him on the driveway," Sean says.
Paul comes downstairs on the phone arguing with Daisy from the insurance company about whether Cathy's MRI is covered. They're out $1,800. Paul sees Cathy's broken iPod. She wants it fixed. She's worried about the money. Paul tells her his old friend Jimmy London called and told him the company he works for is hiring. Paul has a good feeling about it.
Paul makes out ferociously with Mia. She breaks it off, telling him she still thinks it's better if they go slow. He says OK and promises to call her tonight. He climbs on his bike, frustrated.
Cathy examines her jewelry and puts some of it in a plastic bag. Adam comes home and Cathy gives him grief for not wearing a helmet. Cathy's off to the clinic, Paul's out. Adam will have the house to himself. Cathy tells him there's money in the cash drawer and to order a pizza. He looks at the yellow pages and sees an ad for an escort.
Lee accosts Cathy. He thinks she has the face of a cheerleader and the attitude of a bouncer. He was just teaching a meditation class to the oncology nurses. He asks her to buy him lunch, but she declines. He sees her bag of jewelry and she tells him she's pawning it and he wants to tag along.
Sean wears his home made baby carrier to a playground. He's calling it the Tolke Tot Tote. He asks the mothers to give it a try, but they think he's nuts. Then he starts lecturing them on how babies don't care about accessories and they're "materialistic gluttons, who don't know the difference between shopping the parenting."
Cathy and Lee come out the pawn shop. She's pleased with her $500. Lee says he's already gotten rid of most of his stuff. Cathy's not convinced by his carefree attitude.
They're walking down the street when a young man comes up to them, asking if they can spare change. Then he sticks his jacket pocket out like he's holding a gun in it and demands their money. He asks Cathy if she wants to die. She starts laughing. Then Lee's giggling, they try to tell the robbery about irony. After he walks off, Cathy freaks out a little that he might have actually had a gun. "I need to sit down, where there's some Valium," she tells Lee.
He says he can do better and takes her to his very empty apartment. He has wine and not much else. He used to own a wine bar back home in New Orleans. The apartment is a sublet with no TV or radio. He tells her he meditates two hours a day and drinks. Cathy looks for incriminating mess and finds nothing. He has four shirts.
Paul has drinks with his friend Jimmy, talking about how he just sold his boat. Jimmy brags that they just landed Ski Doo snowmobiles. Paul's psyched.
Adam answers the door for the stripper. He claims he's 18.
Sean lurks around the playground. He finds a doll on the swing set and tries it out in his Tote. A girl yells at him and the mom intervenes. Then a security guard marches him off, explaining that only parents with kids are allowed. His in utero doesn't count.
Adam waits for the stripper on his parents bed. She comes out after changing, dressed in black latex. She told him she was "dom" and he thought it meant "Dominican." "So you didn't understand? Then you've been a very bad boy!" she tells him, cracking her whip.
Cathy waits impatiently for Lee to declare that the red he has breathing is ready. He gives her a lesson in the proper way to drink it. Cathy notices his shoes. Lee runs marathons. He started 12 years ago when he was first diagnosed. He talks about time seeming to stop as he runs. She declares he's like a cat, rubbing up against things but not really needing anybody. She's more of a dog person, with lots of attachments. Cathy blurts out that she's stressed and tells him about Paul losing his job. She thinks Paul is acting like they have all the time in the world.
Paul asks what his title would be at the agency and Jimmy tells him it'd be freelance. Paul's upset. He wouldn't even have health insurance. He tells Jimmy to stick his snow mobiles up his rear.
Back home, the stripper is upset that Adam doesn't have the whole $250. She has him tied to the bed. She can't believe he didn't know that just sex was at least $100. She lights up and Adam freaks. He only has $100.
Cut to Adam knocking on Sean's door asking for help. Sean sees the smoking latex-clad stripper. He lets them in.
Lee recites a Pirandello quote in which he asks, upon his death, to be wrapped naked in a sheet. Cathy throws tennis shoes at him. Cathy tells him she wants a brass band and fireworks and a crowd. She wants her former students and girl scout troop to enjoy the chocolate fountain and bacon. She plops on Lee's bed and tells him she doesn't want her death to be desolate. That's what she fears. She wants it to be serene. He gently strokes her face and she pops up and freaks out, saying she's misled him and she's married. He starts laughing. "You think I'm straight?" he says.
He was just admiring the fact she seems to have no pores. Cathy tries to recover. "Don't I think highly of myself?" she giggles. She checks her phone and sees that Paul wants her to meet him. She makes her exit.
Sean lectures the stripper, telling her she should have known it was statutory rape. He also quiets Adam for his part. When he threatens to report her, she offers to take $150. He gives her a vase instead and she leaves.
Sean asks Adam what he was thinking. He asks why he isn't sleeping with his girlfriend. He tells Sean about Mia not putting out and how messing around with girls at school got complicated because they know his mom has cancer. Sean tries to tell him to keep him slow. As he's leaving, Sean reminds him he can ask him for anything. Adam asks for help with his English paper. Sean slams the door in his face.
Cathy meets Paul at an electronics store. He's wearing an apron that says "In Training (Go Easy on Me)". He tells her he works there now and they have health insurance. He reassures her he's going to keep looking and this is only temporary. He says, at least, he can fix her iPod. She thinks it's awesome.
