- A comeback concert for a popular band ends abruptly with the death of the lead singer as he is revealed onstage, shot to death. DI Poole must contend with the local music scene (and his fear of snakes) to uncover the killer.
- Solly Jackson, womanising lead vocalist with recently reformed band the Venerators, is found dead on stage with a bullet in his head. The other band members and his widow Avita all have an alibi,as does the mysterious female photographer Michelle, who turns out to be Solly's illegitimate daughter. Everybody assumes it is suicide - except Poole, whose suspicions are confirmed when somebody puts a snake in his bedroom at night. Using Michelle's photos he shows that one person's alibi was rigged and that,as far as the killer was concerned, the Venerators would be ensured greater success with a singer whose death guaranteed legendary status.—don @ minifie-1
- DI Poole and his team investigate the murder of Solly Jackson - lead singer for a local band called the Venerators - who was was shot dead in his stage prop: appropriately enough, a coffin. From the positioning of the body, DS Camille Borday believes the killer and the victim new each other. Poole initially suspects the dead man's daughter, Michelle, who admits she saw him before the show but says he was already dead. There were jealousies among the various band members but money proves to be at the bottom of the killing.—garykmcd
- At the relaunch concert for newly-reformed Voodoo-style band the Venerator's new CD, womanizing lead vocalist Solly Jackson enters stage in his signature coffin, but fatally shot in the chest which contains the weapon, apparently a suicide without motive. His band mates have alibis, and motives, such as ancient love rivalry over fresh widow Avita, and the royalties for the songs shared with song-smith Eddy. Also present was Solly's bastard daughter Michelle. Pools survives the planting of band member Curtis's snake is his beach house, gets but dismisses a confession and smashes all alibis by time warp.—KGF Vissers
