Matthew Rappaport was a last minute replacement for Laszlo when the original actor dropped out a few days before his scenes were to be shot. Ultimately, the director was much more satisfied with his turn than the other actor.
A few of the characters and the general world of this film stems from a short that Jack Gattanella directed, Infidelio (2004). That film featured Nic, Glenn and Jamie; among the actors originally cast only Eric Luszcz was approached to reprise his role (he respectfully declined), as Logann Grayce was SAG by the time of production and the shoot was non-union, and Chris Ferro moved to Los Angeles. The actors would have also been a full seven years older than in the short film, while the action between the short and the feature is supposed to be a mere couple of months.
Among actors considered for the role of Nic were Nick Uhaus, Sean Deblat, Andrew Greer, and Christopher Kloko. Fred Henry III read for the role. Ultimately Abe Danz was cast and acted in a 'sample scene' the director shot to give an idea of what the film would be like to investors, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.
Hayley Raphael was originally cast as Rannie but had to decline due to being cast on the VH1 show Why Am I Still Single?! (2011).
