A new short film is on the way from Axelle Carolyn, a colleague who is moving on into the world of directing. She helmed Hooked with R.A. Mihailoff and Clare Grant , now she wants to introduce you to The Halloween Kid with Julian Glover ( Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade ), Anna Walton ( Hellboy II ), Dave Legeno ( Harry Potter ) and Leo Donnelly. Since Halloween is upon us, she shared a pair of images from her latest effort.

My dearest friends at Fearnet are now streaming Axelle Carolyn's short horror movie Hooked, for free. Catch it while it lasts!!!!
We recently reviewed Carolyn's first short, The Last Post, and we were really impressed. Her second film is totally comedic where The Last Post was dramatic and romantic - but we like it too. Carolyn is proving to be a real talent; one we're keeping our eyes on.
Quote:
I finished post on my first short film The Last Post in June of this year. It's a very sad, performance-led, emotional ghost story, and I felt like doing something completely different. I was spending a few weeks in La and thought it'd be great to do something there, using some of the great exteriors the area has to offer... I came up with this idea for a simple and goofy twist on the slasher genre and it all...

A couple of days ago we gave you your first look at Axelle Carolyn's latest short film, Hooked, and now? Well now, dearest reader, you can dig on the whole enchilada yourself! All one hundred twenty seconds of it!
With a tagline of "There's Always a Bigger Fish", Hooked is available now via FEARnet. The flick stars R.A. Mihailoff along with the lovely Clare Grant. Will Barratt (Hatchet, Frozen) handled director of photography duties, and Joe Bishara (Insidious) doled out the tunes.
"It's a very silly, very brief little twist on the slasher genre," says Carolyn. "We shot it in a few hours on a beach in La just before 4th of July. I just wanted to make something very different from my previous short, The Last Post (review here), which was sad and emotional."

We're very proud to debut a new short film from writer-director Axelle Carolyn today here on FEARnet – Hooked, a fun twist on the slasher genre that proves "there's always a bigger fish." Filmed on a beach in El Segundo, California, Hooked stars Texas Chainsaw Massacre III's R.A Mihailoff and Team Unicorn's Clare Grant. It's edited and produced by the acclaimed Neil Marshall (The Descent, Centurion) and features cinematography by Hatchet's Will Barratt and music by Repo! and Insidious composer Joseph Bishara. Check out Hooked, and an exclusive interview with Carolyn, after the jump. What inspired Hooked? How did you come up with the idea? I finished post on my first...

Axelle Carolyn - who is currently prepping a feature film - found some time to knock out a short during a stay in Los Angeles. Hooked was the outcome, a small slice of horror that made its premiere on FEARnet today. The cast is minimal: R.A. Mihailoff ( Leatherface , Hatchet II ) and Clare Grant ( Masters of Horror , Team Unicorn) star. Neil Marshall, Carolyn's hubby, co-produced with Theresa Eastman and Joe Bishara of Insidious provided the music. Take a look. Carolyn, author of "It Lives Again! Horror Movies in the New Millennium," talks about the project here .

Directed by Axelle Carolyn
Featuring Jean Marsh, Kimberley Nixon and Darren Bransford
11 minutes
Muted colors and slow music give the impression of a somber and dull existence in a retirement home. Unlike other emerging filmmakers of the modern horror school, Carolyn understands how to combine art direction, lighting, camera ambience and all the elements of filmmaking to create a feeling rather than merely a set-up for a scare.
The Last Post is not a horror story about the supernatural. It is ultimately a love story – a very poignant and stirring one, with the elements of the best tales you might find in an old-fashioned anthology of real-life ghost stories. An aging woman is consumed by regret and pain over missed opportunities in her youth as she is stifled by the monotony of retirement home life. The Last Post moves slowly without feeling slow – the minutes are spent with Madame Colette...
