A Dimly Remembered Failed Pilot That Probably Deserved Better
m-horning7 August 2018
I remember watching this pilot when I was 13 years old. It was a very 70s-80s style high-concept detective comedy: A crusty old private detective is killed and his adult son and daughter decide to keep his agency going... with their deceased father lending a ghostly helping hand! It was funny and the cast was likable, especially the great William Windom (Commodore Matt Decker from Star Trek's "The Doomsday Machine") as Ghost Dad.

One thing from the show stuck with me over the years and crept into my lexicon. While the Landons are in their dad's office the daughter says "Let's see what Dad left us," and the son says "Hopefully a deskfull of Krugerrands?" Since the I have adopted "deskfull of Krugerrands" to signify any hopeful but unlikely potential good fortune.
