Max’s first full month without ‘HBO’ in its rebranded title has a selection that kicks off summer 2023 in fine fashion. Three of the four iterations of “A Star Is Born,” including the most recent remake starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, are streaming on Max in June. The 1954 and 1976 films land June 1, while the 2018 version arrives June 8.
To prepare for Margot Robbie’s performance in “Barbie” come July, one could watch one of her more intense roles as Tonya Harding in “I, Tonya” (2017). For some lighter summer watches, viewers might consider “Dolphin Tale” (2010), “Grease” (1978), “Hairspray” (2007) or “Tooth Fairy” (2010).
“Magic Mike’s Last Dance” (2023) starring Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek Pinault lands at Max after its theatrical release in February this year. Another major theatrical release from 2022, “Avatar: The Way of Water” (2022), swims onto the streamer starting June 7.

HBO Max is no more. In its place are…HBO and Max. Warner Bros. So here is everything you can expect to find on Max (including every new HBO show) this month.
Even though June 2023 is the first full month of Max’s existence without the helpful “HBO” modifier in front of it, literally all of its major original offerings are thanks to the pay cable network. Exclusive: A number of long-running Travel Channel originals are set to move to Discovery+ as the factual giant ramps up its experimentation around windowing.
Deadline understands that a handful of Travel Channel originals, most notably in the paranormal space, will run first on the nascent streaming service rather than on the linear network.
The move is the latest example of digital disruption in the traditional programming space as companies look to provide a boon for their streaming services in an effort to bolster subscriber numbers.
Linear networks have traditionally premiered shows before moving to streaming, but Discovery is in talks to “pre-premiere” a number of the Travel Channel’s most popular originals on Discovery+.
While many of these shows will likely eventually air on the linear cable network, it’s a sign of a shift in thinking at the David Zaslav-run company.

Winter is the new fall this Covid-impacted TV season. Because of the lengthy production shutdown in the first months of the coronavirus pandemic, Fox and the CW delayed the rollout of their regular fall 2020 lineups, and a slew of other series intended for fall 2020 debut also are slated to premiere in early 2021 instead.
With uncertainty surrounding production as Covid outbreaks frequently pause filming, a number of premiere dates are still Tbd, as networks and streamers often wait until last minute to set debuts so they are sure than the new seasons would be completed successfully.
That said, here’s our annual list of midseason/winter premiere dates for new and returning series. It covers hundreds of broadcast, cable and streaming programs debuting from today through March 31 and includes shows that were on hiatus and some one-off specials such as awards shows.
Please send any additions or adjustments to erik@deadline.

On-location film permits for the Los Angeles area slowed by 7.6% from October to November as production activity eased amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the FilmLA agency reported Tuesday.
The industry, which was mostly shuttered from March to June, has received approximately 3,552 film permit applications spanning 2,514 unique projects over the past 20 weeks for location shooting in the Los Angeles area. For the first time since production resumed, month-over-month permit volume decreased in November as application intake declined to 813 permits from 880 in October.
The agency said the slowing stemmed from the 2020 election, the Thanksgiving holiday and the pandemic. FilmLA’s daily intake is now averaging around 39 new applications per business day.
“The November decrease in production reflects the ongoing complexity of the moment,” said FilmLA President Paul Audley. “At this point, progress for production rests, like so many things, on effective community control of Covid-19. The Greater Los Angeles filmmaking community, so...
