Rare TV Broadcast with The Marx Brothers, Harold Lloyd, Corinne Griffith, and more!!
HarlowMGM21 August 2011
This was an NBC special celebrating the 50th anniversary of Beverly Hills hosted by Art Linkletter with tours of star homes, live entertainment, and comedy sketches.I have not seen this program however I did "discover" it - IMDb did not have it listed but I found it in the UCLA library archives (which has information about the program as well as a kine-scope of the broadcast (originally aired in color but of course the kine-scope is B&W). I emailed IMDb all the information they needed and now happily, they have created a page for the program. I hope some DVD company will contact UCLA and make arrangements for this program to be a bonus feature on some upcoming DVD release, say a new Marx Bros. set or maybe a silent set given it has rare TV appearances by Harold Lloyd and Corinne Griffith. I'm sure there must be scores of movie buffs and historians who would love to see this as much as I would.

The 1956 TV GUIDE listing for the program: "One of the big tourist attractions of the Los Angeles area is the tour of the homes belonging to TV and movie stars. Most of these are located in suburban Beverly Hills, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary. In honor of this occasion, tonight's 90-minute spectacular offers viewers a filmed video tour of some of these homes, interspersed with live entertainment from Mike Romanoff's. ... Homes to be visited include those of Jimmy Durante, James Stewart and Sam Goldwyn. Other stars scheduled to appear: Groucho, Chico and Harpo Marx, Tony Martin, Peter Lawford, Sheldon Leonard, Helen O'Connell, Eleanor Powell, Corinne Griffith, Leo Durocher and Loraine Day, Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Virginia Field, Bob Cummings, Rory Calhoun and Lita Baron, Harold Lloyd, and Cornel Wilde and Jean Wallace. Groucho Marx will be seen as The Squire of Beverly Hills in a sketch, and will be joined by daughter Melinda for Anything you can do. In a special sequence some of the noted songwriters of the past half-century croon some of their hit numbers. Among the features identified with Beverly Hills will be Mayor George W. Davis, the stars' barber shop and another barber shop for dogs. Groucho, hot towel in hand, is the visitor. He even meets a star in the stars' shop--George Raft. A unique dance planned for the show has routed the dancers through the streets past the familiar landmarks of screenland".
