Munch away
kosmasp3 August 2013
I guess this tries to be like Shaun of the Dead a little bit. Unfortunately it never really achieves those heights. Even more unfortunate is seeing Edward Furlong and what he has become (literally and metaphorically, in his career and in this movie). Once seen as something that could be a great actor, he can't even deliver (or maybe he doesn't bother to) in a movie like this.

The character of munch might be the most fun one here, but overall there is a feeling of dread. There are subplots and some funny characters that work occasionally, but it doesn't add up. So while some jokes are funny others miss their mark completely, making this an odd experience. Not always in a good sense. You may try it, if you are into B-movies, but there is no guarantee you'll find it amusing

Dross...with Cory Feldman.
filmlover-207-72467018 January 2015
Once again, I am completely baffled by the rave reviews this film has received. Please don't make the same mistake I did and be drawn in by the eye-catching (and very misleading) cover art showing actors Ed Furlong and Cory Feldman.

80 minute film with 'Zombies' in title features what must be all of 10 minutes screen time of zombies altogether. The rest is just mindless driving / running / and pointless, awkward dialogue.

I'm a huge zombie movie fan - but I never thought I would despise a film so much as to go out of my way to urge people NOT to watch it. 'The Zombie King' proved me wrong. It is dreadful.

The film focuses on a few different groups of idiots who are scattered around the British countryside - All groups appear to have absolutely no common sense.

This first becomes apparent when the first group of 'survivors' encounter a zombie in a farmhouse they were supposed to be staying in. Rather than fight off one zombie in a relatively secure house, they run blindly into a dark forest where they encounter even more undead.

We cut to a completely different group of survivors looking for supplies in an abandoned town. This and many more overlong scenes involving this group has absolutely no relevance to the rest of the film. Add a milkman add a postman. Dross.

The Zombie Crap
shawnblackman25 October 2016
A British zom com that tries to duplicate Shaun Of The Dead, but no dice. The producers figured they would make more money if they brought over Edward Furlong and Corey Feldman to star in it. Maybe they should have done their homework. Edward is in it Furlonger than he usually appears in flicks these days. Corey on the other hand has maybe three minutes screen time.

The film is just flat. You want it to be over after ten minutes. Most of the story is told through flashbacks but then show some of them again and again. The time lines get all funky to. This wasn't suspense just annoying as hell. The ending will bother people but by that point you won't really care.

A waste of film, money, and time.
Hardrockhallelujah66627 June 2014
Instead of 'The Zombie King' it should be called 'A couple of bumbling idiots walking around saying stupid things while being filmed'. That's all it is. The so-called Zombie King isn't even in the movie except for very brief flashes. The whooole thing focuses on a group of people walking around trying to stay far enough away from the 'zombies' they see to not be grabbed. They actually 'kill' zombies by throwing empty milk bottles at them. Come on! And talk about horrible acting from that group. Terribly boring. A complete waste of film, the money and time to make the film, and the time it takes someone to watch it. One of, if not thee, worst movie(s) I have ever had the displeasure of witnessing. Corey Feldman's Kalfu was the only decent thing in the movie and he was only in it for a total of maybe, maybe 2 minutes. Do yourself a favor, stay far away from this disaster.

Geesh, why make a sad knock-off of a 10 year old movie
joe-446-71699212 January 2014
Shaun of the dead, blah, blah, blah. Reminds me of all the Blair Witch knock-offs that came after that mess.

Come on, if the best you can say it was a cheap version of Shaun of the Dead, that is not a review. Here are some filmmakers/frustrated actors that needed some D-list stars for their posters. The writer/actor/filmmakers dug up $50-$60k for two American former drug addicts to give the 12 fans they have between them a thrill.

Boring, low on action and so obtuse I would not have known the plot without reading the synopsis on IMDb. If you're going to hire Feldman, at least use him. This was almost a cameo. Furlong was about as exciting as a wet rag with his flaccid acting.

The Brit zombies all walked like they were trained by Elvis and made up by Kate Moss. The other characters were recycled from other movies. It was like a compilation or maybe a "cover" of other movie characters .

Not even worth the bandwidth off a torrent and probably relegated to the $2 bin at Walmart soon,

Lame Shaun of the Dead wannabe
Leofwine_draca14 March 2017
Warning: Spoilers
THE ZOMBIE KING is a British comedy horror film, made as very much a SHAUN OF THE DEAD rip-off with northern-style humour throughout. Thus we get lots of exaggerated jokes, lots of lame character humour, and broad accents. The stars of the piece are ostensibly Edward Furlong and Corey Feldman, but both have little screen time and instead much of the narrative is occupied by a bunch of unknowns who go through the streets avoiding zombies wherever they can.

Furlong has a supporting role as the titular character, a down-on-his-luck chap who accidentally caused a zombie epidemic when trying to bring his wife back to life. Feldman has a one scene cameo as the lord of all evil, if you can believe that. Most of the budget must have gone on flying the two actors over to the UK to shoot their brief scenes. The rest is a waste of time.

It was bad on many levels...
paul_haakonsen29 April 2019
Despite my fascination and love for the zombie genre, then I never got around to watching "The Zombie King" before 2019, even though the movie was released back in 2013.

Why? Well, I can't really claim to be overly pressed for having had the urge to sit down and watch a zombie movie with Edward Furlong in it. Yeah, not much of a fan of him.

"The Zombie King" sort of was trying to be somewhat of a "Shaun of the Dead", but failed to do so, while at the same time trying to also pass as a serious zombie movie, where it fared only slightly better. For a zombie movie then "The Zombie King" was fairly flaccid. Sure, there were moments where the movie was actually adequate, but then came the introduction of the thing happening that caused the zombies to rise, and it just went from mediocre to idiotic. But wait, it isn't all done yet. Then they introduce the Kalfu character, as portrayed by Corey Feldman and it just sank even lower.

The zombie make-up in the movie was mediocre. I will say that it was a good thing that they opted for a bit more than the usual painting the face grey and darkening around the eyes, then leaving hands and neck in the actors ordinary skin tone, because that is just an instant kill for a zombie movie. With that being said, don't get your hopes up, because the make-up wasn't impressive or memorable.

I managed to endure all the way to the end of "The Zombie King", solely because it was a zombie movie, because let me just tell you that I wasn't entertained by what I suffered through here at the hands of director Aidan Belizaire.

"The Zombie King" came and went without leaving much of a mark, and it is a zombie movie that I will not be returning to watch again, despite it actually being a zombie movie.

zero out of ten
airsoftquartermaster17 June 2013
This website won't allow me to rate this film zero out of ten, but zero is the score it deserves. Zero budget, zero talent and zero effort by everyone involved.

The zombies don't appear to have any kind of zombie make up at all, which gives you an idea of what the makers of this were thinking. Make something as quickly and cheaply as possible to con the public out of their hard earned cash.

Watching this film is like having excrement thrown in your face for an hour and a half. After this garbage like The Reverend doesn't seem so bad.

No-one on screen has any acting ability but particular mention must be made of the alcoholic zombie expert priest who studies voodoo. His performance would embarrass Roger Moore. Do something else with your life.

We keep being told about the Army killing zombies but we never see them do so as that would cost more than £50 to film.

In short, avoid this movie like the zombie plague.

an honest review
madelinehind29 April 2013
The Zombie King is obviously extremely low budget. I was prepared to make allowances because of this. However the film has numerous flaws that no amount of money could improve.

The script is supposed to be a comedy horror story. Unfortunately its neither scary or amusing. It drags from the earliest moment and never seems to pick up.

The acting is embarrassingly amateurish. Nobody in this film is going to win an Oscar. THe two "names" add nothing.

Bizarrely even the make up fails entirely. The zombies look like nothing more than what they are. Bad actors in poorly applied make up.

I hope my feelings on this movie are entirely clear.

don't waste your time

Warning: Spoilers
The Zombie King is one of the worst films I have ever watched. There is no plot, no characterisation. Scenes seem to be presented in random order. There is a vast amount of clunky exposition to give the audience details of the scenes that were too expensive to shoot...which is everything that doesn't involve a handful of losers wandering about a field. Furlong appears for about 10 minutes..they play the scenes with his wife several times to make it seem like he's in the film longer. Failedman appears for 5 minutes with what appear to be cornflakes stuck on his face. The bald postman does a bad Clint Eastwood impression. The fat women thinks she is in the Benny Hill Show. The entire cast seem to be reading their lines off a card. Even among this staggering catalogue of incompetence Jon Campling as the alcoholic priest who knows all about voodoo and zombies stands out as a bad actor. He has no idea of how to convince as a drunk or a priest. Special mention must be made of the make-up for the zombies. There is none. The ending is the most shameless rip off of a George Romero film I've ever seen, made even worse by the obvious cheapness and lousy acting.

Funny as
AdamPodmore4 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this film with my brother, gotta say I thought this was one of the funniest films I've seen for a while along with Ted and TV program Modern Family.

The Milk Man was amazing and funny, he had me belly laughing. The scene with the shed ha ha ha ha ha and then he smells his finger after grabbing the girls boobs, its so funny that's what a desperate man would do that doesn't get a bird.

The church scene was awesome finding out how to kill a zombie, it was genius that they used a different method than the usual. Makes the milk man character even more comical using his milk bottles.

I really liked the flash backs to the characters stories to show how they have got to where they are.

I also really like the fact that the film tells you how the zombie outbreak started, they didn't even do this in Shaun of the Dead.

I really liked all the character's the crazy older lady, the traffic warden that's a jobs worth, the postman who thinks he's action man, the mole that turns out to be a good guy, the two lads from the bakery 'I only popped out for a chocolate muffin'. The young girl, the girl who was a ball breaker and the girl who wont take any nonsense from anyone. Then there's the Samuel Peter's causing all this trouble to get his wife back but which one? Having a demon in a zombie film is cool too, I actually looked the name up after and Kalfu is a real Demon of the underworld, the writers really did their homework, the character was really well acted by Corey Feldman who I didn't realise was mouth from the Goonies, another awesome film.

At the age of 18 I can see why our age group really like this film, I think the rating was a bit heavy from the age of 16 this would crack them up

a zombie movie with no blood
sammyb6 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The Zombie King is a strange movie. Its hard to work out who the target audience for the film is. Its too cheaply made and silly for a mainstream audience or family audience to enjoy it.

Zombie audiences are unlikely to want to watch a zombie apocalypse movie that features zero gore. Kiterally. Zero gore!

Comedy fans won't enjoy it as it isn't funny. It contains, no jokes, no slapstick, nothing that could be considered funny.

Furlong and Feldman fans will probably be let down as the two American actors are just brief cameos. The rest of the cast are very bad actors.

I was bored watching it and had forgotten about it the next day.

The worst movie I have ever seen
hugoruneofbrentford28 March 2022
There is not a single solitary thing to recommend here. The acting is embarrassing, the directing is cringeworthy, the plot nonexistent. The zombies look vaguely hungover. There is nothing scary, funny or interesting about this pitiful effort.

The ' Shaun of the Dead ' at home.
natnightly26 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If you were like me, you saw the other reviews and thought, ' kinda rude to compare this to one of the greatest zombie films of all time just because it's british '. Turns out, they were right to.

It's not a line-per-line recreation, but it sure walks that very narrow line between ripoff and homage.

Let's put that aside - what was good about this? The jokes warranted a good giggle every now and then, and not everyone was abysmal. It plays on one of my favorite angles of the zombie genre, taking on the view from an average person, not an ex cop, or a military badass.

But... Shaun of the Dead did this, and way better.

It's unavoidable to talk about it, down to the character dynamics and even some scenes were noticably replicated.

From the overweight sidekick succumbing in the final struggle, might I add in nearly the exact same fashion, to the protagonist being ignorant of the outbreak around them at the beginning, you can't pretend it's coincidental. With how off-brand this is, I'm surprised they didn't beat an inn-keeper with ping-pong paddles while Prince played on an iPod.

It drags, and in it's desperate attempt to imitate, it painfully drags.

The humor may be solid, but everything else is a disaster. The pacing is off, and they loved re-using the scene of the antagonist's wife dying - literally, shown three times. The story is non-existent, and while I mentioned the characters aren't bad, that doesn't mean they're good.

Not worth a watch unless you're morbidly curious. My advice? Watch Shaun of the Dead first, maybe that will satiate your hunger for British zombies.

Great addition to the zombie comedy genre
angelseyes5530 April 2013
I wasn't sure what I would make of this film before i saw it and I must say i was pleasantly surprised. Now don't get me wrong, it is not going to be winning an Oscar but for a popcorn movie and some light entertainment it really is fun! I would have maybe liked to see a tad more horror, but in terms of entertainment value i was pleased. There was some fantastic acting and the cast were great, some weaker characters but the central ones of the milkman, postie and traffic warden were a hoot and some great acting from some of the supporting characters too. As a comedy this is definitely a winner and as a horror it was good enough to be enjoyable, great for a night in when you want to chill after along hard day. Well done.

Warning: Spoilers
Not your usual zombie movie, concentrated mostly on the living rather than the dead, would of liked to see more of Feldman, very creepy character, more George 'night of the living dead' Romero zombies than Resident evil on the zombie makeup front.

Loved the postman's character has some funny moments, great actor I don't know why I haven't seen him in work before now.

Good to see Furlong back on my TV, huge crush on him back from pet sematary days!

Expecting a part 2 from this as the ending wasn't finale

Furlong marry me please!

The Zombie King will become a B Movie Cult Classic
salhanson2 May 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Before I go into my review, lets get something straight I have given this movie a 10/10 on the basis that I really enjoyed this film as a viewer looking at it from the off set as a B Movie

Filming an Indie film there are time constraints, money constraints and lack of top of the range equipment, props etc

The filmmakers obviously put a lot of thought into the production, from the costume to locations. The zombie make-up for our day and age could of been better done but let's go back to the day of 'Night of the Living Dead' 1968 'George A. Romero', the zombie's here had the pale sunken in features and nobody questioned that. I can see what the director was going for here, which again brings this film forward to a Cult B Movie.

Picking up on some of the negative user reviews I have read, take your time to stand back and think about what you have wrote, this is not a serious film, it's a farcical comedy even from the offset ' A Milk Man, Post Man and Traffic Warden' in a middle of a zombie breakout, there right from the start you know what to expect from this film. The one liners are going to be strange like the old lady character, 'Vera'. The Milk Man has some amazing lines which I reckon the younger generation will be quoting after they watch the film. In one of the reviews I read the postie character had done a bad Clint Eastwood impression, come on guys, the actor obviously did this on purpose to fit the style of the film and in my point of view he did a grand job, come on' "when I first joined the service, I worked on the estates in Newcastle" what Brit person over the age of 20 can not find that funny? Again in the same vain the character of the Priest fits this film perfectly the way the actor played it out, the ever knowing drunk priest, priceless. I felt there was a great mix of characters, some better than others but all in all a great ensemble.

This film does have its faults even from my perspective but what B movie doesn't? I loved it, great effort from first time feature director 'Aidan Belizaire'. The director uses elements from the 'French New Wave' from lighting, to long takes, through to the segmented re-use of the scene with Edward Furlongs character, which was genius. It was his stylistic approach, again this helps towards this movie standing out and entering into a Cult Classic, not to mention having two of the biggest child star actors of the 80's.

The filmmakers of this film obviously didn't want it to be your everyday zombie film, which the market is completely over saturated with. They wanted to make it different, which they did. Don't watch this film as a full on horror, watch it as a comedy.

This film will certainly not win any awards, and by the looks of it, it's a love hate thing. For a B movie it's certainly more entertaining, more thought out than a lot of the other indie zombie films which are hitting our shelves these day's .

One further point before I finish, great ending and homage to one of greatest classic's of George A. Romero.

Thumbs up , cracking little indie film
harry-huw29 April 2013
The story focuses around Edward Furlongs character 'Samuel Peters' who isn't coping with the death of his wife, he turns to the Corey Feldman's character, voodoo god of malevolence 'Kalfu' to make a deal to re-unite him with his wife. When this going on we're also given the story of the people suffering from the consequences of Samuel Peters actions.

The story follows the three main characters which are a Milk Man, Post Man and a Traffic Warden, the banta between them is what sets the tone for the film. Even though the humor can be tongue and cheek at times, it's what makes this a cracking little indie film.

The film does have its flaws along with other B movies but this charming film can be forgiven for that as it has my favorite child star actors of the 80's anyone who is a Feldman or Furlong fan should watch this.

Its on the same vain as Shaun of the Dead but a little darker.

I Have to say i was disappointed by the lack of gore in this film, as a zombie fan i enjoy watching a full blooded zombie vest... However i soon realized i wasn't watching the regular zombie flick i was used to. This film is very tongue and cheek and does not take its self too serious. (Shaun of the dead style) The comedy is great entertainment value it gave me a good few laughs. The actors were alright... I think there was some brilliant performance and others just okay... unlike other films this one actually had an actual a story. yes its got its flaws but I have no problem recommending this film if you like a giggle... some seriously funny lines.. well done to the writers.

Top night's entertainment
chevisance-music12 May 2013
For a small budget film, there were some excellently cinematic interior shots. Some outdoor scenes were not as strong as the interior shots though. Moreover, the constant blueish colour grading was a touch tiresome, however, one can recognise the motivations behind this decision and this is a personal preference and should not go against the film. Excellent humour throughout and a pleasure to watch. I am very impressed with the inclusion of some familiar childhood stars such as Corey Feldman and Edward Furlong into the production. Furlong especially showing maturity and professionalism to his acting. The sound and music worked well together and being a professional score writer myself, I was paying particular attention to the audio elements. Everyone involved has brought this film into fruition with consummate professionalism and enthusiasm. Top work!!

Not what i expected
annkennedy3811 June 2013
No to be at all negative when i begin, but i had no particular hopes for this film. I watched it with my daughter who is a fan of zombie fiction, series and so forth. I expected all out gore but what i found was a well thought out, unique spin on a well worn genre. It had a wonderful cast and the comedy was excellent (barring a few rather cruder moments for my tastes). Overall i enjoyed this film and would most certainly watch it again. I know my daughter would agree. Well worth your time and i cannot at all understand how it is averaging so low? This is a film that i feel many would enjoy, though it is still quite niche it is a refreshing change.

Great feature film
hsmoonberries15 June 2013
Loved it, loved it, loved it! So quirky this little film, different and unusual, lots of nods to the old b movie classics with a modern twist. It was funny and in places creepy and had a great cast to round this out. Unmissable for fans of the genre, wanting something different. It took me back to a lot of the films i loved and has reignited my interest in these types of films. I have to say it has also inspired me to watch more independents as they offer a nice change from a lot of the mainstream stuff. Great work to cast and crew :-) Hats off to all of you for taking the time to get such a great film out there for us all to say. I was thoroughly entertained

Chicks with sticks
nogodnomasters11 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The film starts out with zombies in the first clip. You don't know why they are there, unless you read the DVD by-line. It starts with three main characters, Boris (Michael Gamarano)a cowardly policeman who is still handing out parking tickets during the Apocalypse. There is also a milkman (David McClelland) and a man (George McCluskey) who learned survival skills in the service...the postal service. If you don't read the by-line you will know what caused the zombie outbreak 80 minutes into the film, although it does have a flashback subplot. Our core group is joined by others as most of the film, like most zombie films, is consumed by their traveling and killing zombies. The end was unexpected. The humor was hit and miss, with a few good scenes.

Worth watching for those who like a little humor with their zombies.

Parental Guide: F-bombs. No sex. Nude pictures hanging on wall.
