Warning: Spoilers
Of course Hilary Swank makes this an immediately interesting story. She has depth, strength and acting ability beyond a tv series. I was hesitant, but she drew me in. Then the first 5 minutes were a little bit weak. It was kind of tortured and cliched but it got the point across. But then the people they added in the Alaska part were excellent. She is a total outsider to Alaska but not an outsider to reporting. Some of the dialogue could slow down a little, but maybe that is because it is made for tv and shorter episodes than an hour at a time. Overall, at least the pilot so far, has my interest enough to watch the whole series. And the panic attacks were an awesome addition. Good writing as well as good actors. Joe Tippett is one of my favorite actors. He was excellent in Mare of Easttown, and he delivers here.

Pretty good start

Warning: Spoilers
It's a quiet and understated start, which fits in perfectly with the environment.

The scenery and supporting actors are great - Hilary let's them shine. There's a lot of sunlight in this pilot.

Looking forward to the ongoing series.

Some comments state it is too slow - I disagree, the character buildup makes it interesting and it allows watchers to really care about the ensemble of a small newspaper. The little people get lost in the publishing world and this seems to offer a timely antidote to the rush of the big picture - I hope it thrives and they can move into a bigger office.

I like the introduction of the 'Pilot Poet' it's a little tongue in cheek but a chance to see more of the beautiful scenery and open up a new character that just happens to have a plane.

Fresh and Smart

Warning: Spoilers
Hilary Swank and the whole cast are all spot on in their roles. Following the life of an alaskan newspaper they dig into some deep and relevant stories. Add in some humor and relationship side stories and they created the full package.

This storyline is based on relevant topics facing not just Alaska, but also the overall environment and society.

Swanks character brings in an outside big city / seasoned reporter's perspective to a small newspaper that took her in when she needed a change. Her character is healing, developing and strengthening as she finds her footing in this new job after leaving her former role that had left her in a bad place.

Excited to see what's happening next at the Alaska Daily!

Pilot
Prismark109 February 2023
Starring two time Oscar winner Hilary Swank. Alaska Daily was created by Tom McCarthy who won a Best Screenplay Oscar for Spotlight. So there were high hopes for the pilot of Alaska Daily.

Swank plays no nonsense and a know it all New York journalist Eileen Fitzgerald. She thinks she has a new scoop on a rising politician only to find herself fooled with an unreliable source.

Her arrogance meant that she brushed aside any concerns about journalist ethics.

The once high flying journalist goes lo fi when she takes up an offer to work in a newspaper in Anchorage, Alaska. The offer comes from Stanley Cornik (Jeff Perry) her former boss.

The newspaper she arrives to work for is cozy budget run operation. Stanley wants Eileen to look into the murders of indigenous woman that the police have ignored.

However her methods of journalism puts Eileen into conflict with the locals, the police and some of her own journalists.

Essentially a fish out of water crime drama. Swank is great with what is a clichéd character. There is an element of seen it all before in shows like Twin Peaks, Northern Exposure or movies such as Wind River.

I expected a little more originality in the pilot episode and it needs a bit more creativity in future episodes.
