Sex & Nudity

  • Throughout each episode there's a shower scene. It is censored.
  • Occasionally, the gastric bypass patient featured in the episode will have a sad backstory that led to their excessive weight gain, and it sometimes includes child abuse of a sexual nature.
  • Note: everything that I typed here applies to the entire series, not just Season one. In general, all of the seasons have the same amount of nudity, profanity, intense content, etc.
  • No sexual content. However, some of the people on the show TALK about sex and sex-related topics.

Violence & Gore

  • No violence and no graphic gore.
  • However, this show is about morbid obesity and weight loss surgery. Therefore, the people on the show frequently talk about complications and health problems associated with obesity. In every episode, a morbidly obese person clearly suffers from poor health and very limited mobility. However, in almost every episode the ending is much happier, because everyone on the show benefited from weight loss surgery.
  • Also, in every episode a weight loss patient shows viewers his/her weight loss surgery. You will see images of the patients' stomachs and doctors operating on the patients. Some people might find the operations graphic.

Profanity

  • This show contains some profanity, but all of it is censored.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • I have seen several episodes of My 600 lb. Life, and if I remember correctly, none of the episodes that I watched contain cigarette smoking or illegal drug use. I saw drinking, but none of it is binge drinking.
  • However, it should be noted that some of the people on the show talk about alcoholism and drug abuse.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This show doesn't contain frightening content, but it does contain dramatic scenes. The series talks about the struggles that gastric bypass patients go through, therefore many episodes contain sad scenes. In many of the episodes either the weight loss surgery patient or the patient's family members cry.
  • In addition, some of the people on the show argue or become angry, but the show doesn't contain any physical fighting.
  • Fortunately, most of the episodes have a happy ending, but the beginning of the sow usually has a sad tone.
  • Some of the gastric bypass patients endured a rough childhood. All of the patients talk about their childhoods, and some of the stories are somewhat uncomfortable (however, I wouldn't call any of the stories frightening).
