Ya got trouble with a T, and that rhymes with a C, and that stands for Cider!
The show gets its first villain song and it's wonderful. Two charming colts arrive in ponyville with their newfangled new machine and try to swindle the folks. However, the Apple family ain't no dang fools and refuse their offer, so they challenge these two out-of-town jaspers to a race. Honestly, the Flim-Flam brothers would have won if they weren't so lazy. But they're con artists so they felt like they didn't need to make the effort. Anyway, Sam Vincent and Scott McNeil are great as the Flim-Flam brothers.

The cider making rules

Episodes that centre around the Apple family vary in quality, there are some good ones (though there are not many that struck me as show high points) but some disappointed also. The main thing making or breaking them being the characterisation of the family and Applejack, something that varied. Regardless of whether it was an original idea or not, the story sounded like it would be entertaining and intriguing and even reading the synopsis made me immediately relate to it.

"The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000" is not a great 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic' episode, but it is a good one that characterises the main characters well, doesn't waste its concept and has a fair share of inspired moments. It would have been even better if it had a better ending and if the supporting characters didn't irritate as much, things that did bring "The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000" down a little and it was a shame.

Will start with the many good things, well make that great things. The animation's attention to detail is still remarkable and the colours positively pop out without being drab or garish. The music is as fun to listen to as ever, this includes a cool if slightly overlong musical number that is reminiscent of 'The Music Man' (a compliment). The charactrisation is fine, especially a likeable and faithfully written Applejack and Rainbow Dash being the most relatable up to this point of Season 2. There is some nice and amusing innuendo that didn't feel inappropriate or out of place.

Everything to do with the competition is vastly entertaining and it was great to see the Mane 6 showing cohesive team work throughout. That machine is just awesome and made me envious and "The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000" has a good and honest moral (also important and holds up well by today's standards) that is a long way from being out of date. As ever, the voice acting is strong, particularly from Ashleigh Ball as Applejack.

On the other hand, for my tastes the Flim Flam Brothers were pretty on the irritating side. Some of the humour at the expense of Rainbow Dash is a touch too cruel.

Also found the ending far too melodramatic, and an ending where nothing is gained. Something that didn't ring true for me.

In conclusion, good if not great. 7/10
