What's with the negative bias and low ratings? This is definitely not that bad!
dean_domino9 August 2023
This is an average episode of Futurama. It's very far from being one of the best, but definitely not in the top 5 worst ones as well, like the ratings make it out to be. This episode has a number of clever ideas and funny jokes. It's entertaining and wacky. I'm sure if this episode was in the original run by Fox, no one would hate on it and would just treat it as a decent filler.

Like this episode, so far the new season is just decent. No bangers, but no downright terrible episodes either. However, it's only been 3 episodes! It's not even halfway done! Surely we can wait until it's finished until we start complaining about the entire quality of the new run?

Clever episode with a disappointing character development.

Warning: Spoilers
Overall this episode was done very well and clever. I felt as if each character. Nice tie backs to things like The Orgon Trial. The loving bonding that is created between a father and son. The twist to a wildwest adventure with the modern tropts of bitcoin farming is an wonderful idea. All tied in with so much comedy busting from the seems.

Unfortunately, we are reintroducing changing the original the character "The Borax Kid". The original character was shown as a gambler that was also committed to setting things right. This update to the character is just unfortunate to see.

Episode was wonderful as expected all together.

Tltr: Funny and loved the episode. Disapointed with the new take on "The Borax Kid"

Nostalgic Feeling
djr-425607 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is the first episode in S11 that I feel truly captured the old feeling and comedy that the old Futurama had with was my favorite part about it, of course combining it with modern topics and making them applicable to the future timeline, after all it is a reboot. Futurama does a good job of setting itself apart with small detailed unique edgy jokes. Such as the bipolar robot-kidnapping charity giving Saloon lady and in the the previous episode where we see Amy's parents again (reminded of their horrible parenting) and her Dad wrenches his money and makes some coins come out, or in this episode with the return of Roberto where he now uses a knife gun keeping originality with something modern to fit the episode. We also see this throughout the entirety of the episode, where they become bankrupt and Bitcoin skyrockets so they go West in search for thallium instead of gold.

Its Futurama
Andromeda448212 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Overall, the first episode of this new season was most certainly the weakest.

With that aside I'm enjoying these episodes mostly. However there are some things I'm not enjoying.

The animation looks cheap, and the 21st century story lines are getting a bit boring. We've made bitcoin jokes in the first episode, but now and entire bitcoin story line?

I just feel that if this is the direction the new season will go, it will struggle. Some storylines will land but others like this will only be enjoyable for the Futurama gags. The professor had me laughing

Overall, better than the first episode. Not awful like some reboots.

On par with the later seasons
viapetty20 September 2023
Is it great? No. Is it bad? No. It's about the same level as the early 2010 seasons. Honestly I'm just so glad that there is more Futurama that I'm happy with anything we're getting at all! I'm excited to see a new era of my favorite show.

How the West was 1010001: I've always enjoyed the episodes that find ways to bring the characters into different genres, and as an avid RDR2 fan this was no exception. The reason Futurama is my favorite show is because I never fail to laugh out loud at least once every episode, and I got two of those in this one, even if just chuckles. I did feel personally attacked by the Apple Maps joke tho lmao.

A true return to form.
mmunroe-271257 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was truly a return to form for the Planet Express crew. From the start of the episode, I could tell that they were going to make a modern trope, such as cryptocurrency and spin it into something comedic, while also making fun of it, and every funny possible aspect. As usual, the Professor steals the show with all the one-liners and senile comments that he makes on a regular basis. I'm happy that they brought back Roberto and the Robot Mafia for old time sake. One of the funniest things in this episode, in particular was the fact that Zoidberg took over the doctor profession in an old western town, so theoretically, he would be the most qualified individual to treat patients considering the lack of technology available during this episode. I thought it was a grand old time, and can't wait to see more.

Thank you for not being terrible.
jamstan-146867 August 2023
They did it. I can't believe they did it. They finally made a crypto episode that's actually fun and creative instead of boring and lazy.

I was a little worried about the topical episodes this season but this one was very well done. Crypto didn't seem on the nose or outdated like the CC era episodes sometimes felt. This time being way more creative and actually doing some nice worldbuilding by visiting a completely new place we've never been to before. We go somewhere that emulates the wild west and it's just so beautiful and a nice change of scenery.

The crypto seems to something you actually have to mine and collect before you turn it into digital money which I really like. They didn't take the lazy route and just do the same old crypto jokes.

There were actually a lot of other storylines as well that the crypto part of the story didn't really feel overdone. It's in the background and used to progress the story instead of being the story. There was even a nice little twist with the crypto later in the episode.

If this episode is any indication to how they will be treating the topical episodes then I'm not nearly as worried anymore. They actually feel fun and not in your face. This episode will still stand if you knew absolutely nothing about crypto or Bitcoin and that's why I think it will be timeless.

Overall a really great episode and the best so far. Im really happy Futurama is back because this was so good.

I feel like I'm going crazy
spamjunkandthings8 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
How is this episode held in such high regard? A show set in the far off year of 3023 really has some balls making an entire episode centered around Crypto of all things.

I'd give some leeway if they at least tried to obfuscate the reference with some attempt at tongue in cheek worldbuilding beyond just shoehorning in a wild west gold rush aesthetic and calling it a day. But when I'm sitting before our beloved cast namedropping Bitcoin and Etherium with boomerish references to how volitile it is, I don't see an attempt at making a creative comedic story, I see a team of writers eager to make shotty references to a newish thing they've been hearing about.

There's zero subtly or exploration beyond every wild west gag you could imagine, with a clunky and competely predictable father son conflict between Hermes and his kid thrown in there for seemingly zero reason. His kid for some reason sees a father figure in Roberto, the bloodthirsty stabbing robot only to, surprise surprise, be screwed over by him, where he comes limboing back to his dad in the most phoned in and predictable manner imaginable.

It just made for a very shallow and weak as hell watching experience. Would love to see more of the show's original zany wit present, because truly, I did not see an ounce of that here.

Whoever thinks this isn't as good as old futurama, doesn't remember the old futurama!

Futurama is back baby! And the first three episodes have been truly solid. Thank you to the writers for keeping the quality and standards high and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

I thought it was really funny!
ericstevenson10 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is about bitcoins. I guess it might have been an attempt for the series to become more relevant. Look, they hadn't had any new episodes in ten years! There's tons of stuff they have to catch up with! It features the characters going to California to get Thallium to pay off a debt to the Robot Mafia. They meet this really funny character who has mood swings.

She has an interesting personality. We even get a great climax where four guns are being fired from different directions! Yes, it wasn't as emotional as earlier episodes like "Leela's Homeworld", but it was still funny. The jokes hold up to the end. I love to see how they build up. We do get a bit of a heartwarming moment with Hermes and his son. ***1/2.

Worst episode of the series
elkincordobab9 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Old west is boring, crypto currencies are boring, thalium is boring, limbo is boring. After a mediocre first episode and an emotional second episode I just wanted to see Kiff and Ammy children but they weren't there. The bitcoins and all the old west stuff could be part of the beginning of an episode but an entire episode about this is unbearable. It was supposed Fry and Leela were going to be engaged but now they don't look as in love as before and Fry is close to lose Leela everytime. I hope next episode to be better. The only positive point was the animation during the duel at the end of the episode and talking about current topics like Bitcoin but just to mention.

What happened?
TabalugaDragon23 August 2023
Futurama has always been one of my favorite shows of all time. Heck, it started when I was just 9, so it's a part of my childhood.

I've recently binge-watched all previous seasons and... despite Comedy Central era being a noticeable step down compared to the original 5 seasons(and Bender's Big Score), they still held up pretty well.

I also "kind of" liked the first episode of the newest reboot(thought it was a little too on-the-nose with the reboots talk though, like - we get it), loved the second episode, which was at least as good as Comedy Central era, but the third one... It;s probably the worst episode in the show, along with "Saturday Morning fun pit". Jokes are flat, almost none of them land. The bitcoin theme goes through the whole episode, sticking it right in front of your eyes during the whole episode.

What happened to subtle jokes where something is referenced for a short scene and then moved on from that to another scene? It's like they ran out of ideas and creativity, and instead of putting many things in one episode, they drag the crypto-currency joke over and over and over, the problem is, it wasn't even funny in the first place, and like another review mentioned, the crypto currency jokes became outdated long ago. And the worst thing, they don't even try to hide it(like they renamed Fox Network to Box betwork when they laughed at it), they just straight out call it Bitcoin, Doge coin and so on. Where's the joke exactly? Where's the punchline?

The actors also sound super worn-out and tired, at least half of them. Not only they sound older, they speak very slowly too. It's not like the original Futurama was fast-paced or anything, but now it feels like I should set the speed to 1.1 or even 1.2 or something so it would feel ike the old Futurama. It's especially noticeable with Billy West and Phil LaMarr. When Phil voices Hermes'es kid, it's evident it's an adult voicing him, WAY too evident, like not even a young adult. Could as well hire another voice actor for that role. Surprisingly though, Billy West still sounds good as Zoidberg. No idea why, because he sounds terribly old for Fry and even(orinically) the Professor. All of that original energy from the first seasons is gone, and it's just sad. Perhaps it really was a bad idea to make this reboot, especially considering how perfectly the series ended last time with "Meanwhile" episode?

Worse with each episode
wcallum-6376719 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Uhhh...

The stuff I liked: I liked the setting, it was something new for futurama. Bender's song is probably the funniest thing of the season so far. The characters were written decently.

The stuff I disliked: the bitcoin commentary was very surface level with the commentary and jokes. Nothing interesting really happened. Except for the song, most jokes didn't really work that well.

Overall I just didn't really feel anything while watching. It doesn't feel rushed like the previous 2, but still has their other problems. Please can the next episode be at least a 7...although I haven't heard good things about the episode.

So boring and old
leptilic15 August 2023
Bitcoin parody? Really? You know this episode is at least 6 years late. Bitcoin parodies are old. I got a feeling that this episodes are written several years ago but Futurama didnt get green light for years. This is so pathetic. Like there are no more imaginative writers and they are just mashing old topics over and over and over and over. And there are so many modern topics to criticize but problem is that brainwashed writers are too much afraid to hurt someone feelings... Dull, boring, nothing new, outdated jokes... And to prove this. They are still stuck on USB sticks that is also now dying technology....

just cancel this now, sigh
nerrdrage16 August 2023
When I heard that Futurama was revived after so many years, I had high hopes that it could be good. After all, there's been so much comic fodder created by reality in the intervening years.

But Bitcoin?!? Isn't that a passe topic now? We've gone on to AI now. By the time they do their AI parody, that will be old hat too.

And even if Bitcoin were still current, this episode had too many painfully unfunny jokes. That's the real problem this season, the jokes are concepts that don't land.

I guess I should admit defeat and stop watching. Maybe I'll be back for the Zap Branagan episode. If they can't make him funny, it's really over.
