Ridiculous
karinadd29 October 2022
I am only writing this review because of the ridiculousness of other reviews. This episode is about gun violence and how one bullet can cause so much chaos in a hospital effecting not only the gun shot victim but other patients as well. The entire episode is designed to make this point. It does not matter if they violated federal rules, it does not matter if there are mistakes this is a drama show these kind of mistakes happen in every episode bc it's not real and the mission is to make you interested. But the mistakes are only a problem when the episode is about something that you don't support? You people are so in love with your guns that you go as far as to make a research on federal laws to prove the mistakes of the episode. Such an obsessive and a far-fetched action for people who claim they are here for the entertainment and not the social criticism. Whenever a show makes an episode about a problem in the society there is always a group of people whining about the lack of entertainment. Talking about shows forcing certain agendas to the viewers? I only see bunch of people ridiculously irritated and scared of different opinions. And calling this(guns being dangerous and shouldn't be legal) "a different opinion" is crazy. Anyone who is sane and has even a little vision outside of America can see this is nothing but a failing, life threathening system. Go ahead and dislike my comment it only shows you are delusional too.

A very powerful episode.

This show has always brought amazing storylines. The episode last season that shined a light on how precious nurses are to healthcare and how they are not given near the compensation nor credit for everything they do was heart moving. This episode had me wanting to pause it so I could find the closest place to donate blood and ask when is the soonest I can come back to give more. I knew healthcare was chaos but the potential level it could get to I don't think ever truly registered with me. That was pure organized pandemonium. Even people that are just "inconvenienced" you hated it for them. I know the relationships in real life between healthcare providers and the general public are strained but what a place we would live in if the ones called to do this work decided it was no longer worth answering the call for. I love that this show highlights the best and the worst of the field so many choose to work in everyday. While also managing to make the viewers just as interested in and entertained by the character's lives and storylines. Keep it up!

One Bullet

Warning: Spoilers
I really do not get what they were trying to accomplish with this episode. We know how overworked healthcare workers are, but what was the point of the john doe gunshot victims? Is this going to lead to a big storyline somewhere or is this just a one-off that has no impact on anything?

The new intern character is not helping either. I get that they are trying to do something creative while also realizing that there should be someone low on the food chain interacting with them, but I just don't like the personality of this character and think she brings nothing to the table as of right now. Time will tell if that changes.

Subtlety is not the strong suit here

Warning: Spoilers
We generally watch The Resident regularly, and it's been a show that we've laughed at as well as really relating lots of the medical story lines.

That being said, there's tons of talent in every episode, and this one here is no different.

I watch television shows and movies for entertainment...in fact, I think that the actors are called entertainers for that reason. Certain groups of people are constantly attempting to sway the beliefs and thought processes of other groups who don't necessarily agree with their slant. Sadly, I don't see this changing anytime soon.

The underlying premise of the episode is to convince everyone that one bullet affects and involves a huge number of people, while happily skipping over the fact that a thug/criminal more than likely had an illegal firearm and used it to shoot a gang member.

Stop preaching at us, and entertain us.

This episode was absurd.
jimberg9811 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
While trying to make some sort of political statement, the writers have completely gone off the deep end. The episode starts with Kade and Conrad finding a gunshot victim, so they rush him to the hospital in their own car. Rather than just taking the victim to the nearest ED, they called ahead and were told that the ED couldn't take the patient. This is in clear violation of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, a federal law making it illegal for ERs to turn people away.

They then put up a counter of the number of health care workers needed for the patient trying to highlight the expense of gun violence. The grand total was 100, which was absurd.

Padma was scheduled to have a c-section and started to have complications that required blood. Unfortunately, all of the AB- blood was used up by the gunshot victim. This was obviously going to happen, yet no one seemed to ensure that there was enough blood for Padme. C-sections aren't trivial.

The world they have been trying to portray in the last few episodes does not exist. They're building strawmen. I loved this show but am getting ready to scrap it. I can deal with politics based in reality but am offended total fiction.

Inaccurate and deceptive
jnyost28 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Anyone who works in a hospital can tell you that this episode is horribly inaccurate, and not for dramatic reasons, but for political reasons. I love drama as much as the next person but I hate silly personal bias such as this being worked into shows. The entire show is based on lies, not drama.

First, the number of people involved with the GSW is highly exaggerated. A GSW victim requires no more attention than many other traumas. Many people are involved with every case at a hospital and many require more involvement than this.

Second, a hospital does not run with ORs fully booked like shown unless they are poorly ran. What do you think hospitals do when there are mass traumas, such as bud accidents, car pileups, etc.? ALL hospitals keep ORs open for emergencies. If a hospital truly operated the way this one did then they deserve to get shutdown.

Third, can we PLEASE stop showing doctors and surgeons running imaging equipment? RTs perform scans with equipment such as a CT and MR, not doctors. Also, please stop using MR sounds for a CT. A CT does NOT sound like a magnet.

This episode made me stop watching the show altogether
amandacwhite-6959718 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
All other reviews I've read focus on the GSW aspects of the episode. However, the reason I hate this episode so much is the complete inaccuracies of Padma's storyline. An OB would not panic or be unable to operate on her in that situation. I thought Leela was training to be a CT surgeon, why on earth would she be the only person who could take over to save Padma (I am assuming Padma lives, I turned it off when Leela took over so I don't actually know how it ends). Next, they mention Padma had a uterine rupture and later say it was a placental abruption. These are completely different things! Finally, a hospital would have a maternity unit separate from the rest of the hospital and it's own OR's. Caesarean's are needed regularly, whether planned or emergency, so they would not be lumped in with all other surgeries.

I've read reviews of this show in the past saying how all the medical terms etc are accurate and it's a good, largely realistic portral. Well, not anymore. I can't watch it any longer. Seeing incorrect, unrealistic things has made me so fed up with medical dramas. Not to mention it's become very boring since Mina and Nic left.
