Back to Harvard
claudio_carvalho5 April 2017
Walter does not recall the scrambled plan in his mind; therefore he decides to go to his laboratory in Harvard to search for his notes. However The Observers took the place and turn into a secret facility. But Walter recalls a hidden entrance to a steam pipe tunnel that allows him and his friends to reach his laboratory. They are surprised by a loyalist security guard but they succeed to capture him. The guard Manfretti refuses to give the information about the means to restore the power to the laboratory and Etta interrogates him with a device retrieved from The Observers that turns him older. When Olivia sees the method, she feels lack of humanity in Etta's procedure and sympathizes with the tortured guard affecting them both.

"In Absentia" is another great episode of "Fringe", now with the group returning to Harvard. The sincerity in Olivia's eyes is an important point in this episode since she affects her daughter and the loyalist guard. Etta is a hot head, and Olivia and Peter will certainly be important for her development. My vote is eight.

Finally no more Standalone
nicofreezer21 June 2021
Fringe was Never good in their Standalone, with season 5 we only got main story episodes and its for the best. Its maybe going to be the best Season, so far two 9/10 episodes in a Row, the best start for a Fringe Season by far. Already better than the weak Season 4.

This is your Destiny

Warning: Spoilers
The Thought Unifier still is not dredging "The Plan" out of Walter's Scrambled Egg Mind. He is still as sharp as he was after having his mind fixed by Agent Foster, but after his encounter with Windmark, the plan is just not accessible that way. But is there, "Another Way?"

Walter needs to go to his lab at Harvard, but The Observers have taken over the whole campus in a 4-mile radius. But it is no trouble for a guy who's done LSD, Walter finds a way in without attracting attention. This is our first look at the lab in this time, everything is pretty much were he left it, except for a conspicuous amount of Amber.

A lone loyalist security guard comes in, too bad for him. First he meets Etta: Who does not offer him a pleasant experience. Then he meets Olivia, who has another way of doing things.

There is something in the Amber that Walter needs to get, but he needs electrical power to do it. Peter and Etta go on a mission to turn on the power, and Etta finds out the fate of Foster. Walter and 'Afro' work on a gadget, while Olivia keeps the guard company. Walter needs something from the guard in order to get into the Science Lab where the power relays are, and is his way of getting it better than the other alternative, in a Pig's Eye? For the guard, Yes.

It is still our little Fringe family. Even with all of the permutations of Fringe Division, from a small "rogue" division working out of Walter's Lab, to the huge agency in the Red 'Verse, and then to the Statue of Liberty where "The Machine" was housed. And now back full circle to Harvard, Fringe is basically the original four, plus Etta. Fringe "Division" is a gestalt organism, each member of Fringe serves a purpose: Walter the Brain, Astrid the left hand, Peter the Right hand, and Olivia who coordinated everything, who now has to defer to Etta for guidance in this strange world. Olivia, stripped of the authority of being an FBI Agent, is still Olivia and shows that she does not need the Badge to command Authority.

They function together as well as they ever had, and they get it done. Now they have a direction: but they must "Follow the Yellow Brick Video Tapes"

And judging from the scenes from the next episode, flying monkeys are the least of their worries.

Still no rating ability: 10/10 -- Also posted xweaponxmovies.blogspot.com

Now We're Rolling
Hitchcoc17 November 2023
First of all we have the concerted effort to get at Walter's videotape containing his plan. This requires great effort to use the vent system for heat pipes. His lab is closed to entrance but this is a way in. We also have a guard who has been apprehended by them and a test of the humanity of the people trying to do in the Observers. Are they turning just as bad? This is a key element. We get another glimpse of the utter indifferent cruelty of the Observers. It makes one wonder that if they were wiped out, they wouldn't feel anything anyway, sort of like the Star Trek Borg. The beauty of this episode is this series is going to end with a quest and we will be taken on the journey.
