Tony Curran: Guy D'Evreux

Quotes

  • Languedoc Parfait : Guy D'Evreux, in the name of God, do what you will with me, but take mercy on these innocents.

    Guy D'Evreux : Hand me a bow.

[he's handed a crossbow and arrow, and loads it]

Guy D'Evreux : Get up off your knees.

[as the Parfait stands, he takes aim, then shoots a female Perfect]

    Guy D'Evreux : There. There's your mercy.

    [to the soldiers with him]

Guy D'Evreux : Kill the heretics. Make their priest watch.

  • Simeon de Montfort : These are the devil's lands. It's the fires of hell that warm them.

Guy D'Evreux : Perhaps God will grant us a cooling breeze, once we've burnt all the heretics.

Simeon de Montfort : I'm glad you find heresy so amusing, D'Evreux. There are some of us who take our holy mission more seriously.

Guy D'Evreux : No one has ever questioned my loyalty to the Pope and the Holy Mother Church. Why else would I join this crusade?

Simeon de Montfort : For land. For power, perhaps.

Guy D'Evreux : I already have enough land, and as for power, I am content to be your lordship's humble servant.

Simeon de Montfort : Perhaps you can join me at prayer later.

Guy D'Evreux : Nothing would give me greater pleasure.

Simeon de Montfort : Good. I'll make honest Christians of these people, even if I have to kill every last one of them to do it.

  • Guy D'Evreux : Where are the books, Simeon? Did you give them to Pelletier?

    [getting no answer]

Guy D'Evreux : I will find the grail. Note that well before you die. Come, tell me where the books are.

    [again getting no answer]

Guy D'Evreux : I'm going to flip this coin. If it's heads, I'm going to stab you. If it's tails, I'm going to flog you to death. Now, that's going to be very exhausting for me, and it's gonna be a damn sight more uncomfortable for you. But it's your choice. The whip or the blade. Or... you could tell me where the books are.

    [flipping the coin]

    Guy D'Evreux : Oh, dear. It's tails.

Simeon : Tell me your name, sir. I'll pray for your soul.

  • Arnaud Domerque : God bless your holy endeavor...

Guy D'Evreux : Do you think I care about this preposterous crusade? I have a much greater purpose. Now, who are you and what do you want?

Arnaud Domerque : My name is Arnaud Domerque. I'm told Guy D'Evreux pays well for news of Intendant Pelletier. I saw him in the Jewish quarter in Carcassona with a man named Simeon of Bezier.

Guy D'Evreux : Who is this Simeon?

Arnaud Domerque : He's a bookbinder, a Jew, recently arrived in Carcassona.

Guy D'Evreux : Tell me. Did Simeon bring three books with him, very, very old and precious?

Arnaud Domerque : I didn't see any books.

Guy D'Evreux : And who else knows of this?

Arnaud Domerque : No, no, no, I've told no one, my lord.

    Guy D'Evreux : Good. Good.

    [wandering over to a servant]

Guy D'Evreux : Drown him and find me this Jew.
