- Judge David Nicastro: Ladies and gentlemen, I would like you to meet your mediator. This is Kate Reed. I will be back in an hour to check on your progress.
- Kate Reed: Hi.
- Charles McKay: Niki, you can't seriously leave us here with Little Miss Prada!
- Kate Reed: Ah, excuse me. My name is Kate Reed and you can shut the frack up!
- Judge David Nicastro: Well, I see McKay has already planted the seeds of doubt in your mind about my impartiality.
- Kate Reed: Sir? Sir, sir. I would never doubt you because I am too busy doubting myself.
- Judge David Nicastro: Uh-huh.
- Kate Reed: Now is it possible for you two to just, I don't know, talk it out?
- Judge David Nicastro: [gruffly] Is it possible for you to go back to work?
- Kate Reed: [saluting] Yes, Sir, I am on it like hot-pink lipstick... on the collar of a scoundrel.
- Kate Reed: [trying to persuade him not to plead guilty] Sir, your record is clean.
- Judge David Nicastro: I can't prove it to myself, Kate.
- [she looks at him anxiously]
- Judge Gordon: We're getting very impatient here. What's the defendant's plea?
- Kate Reed: Charlie, when I am the most mature person in the conversation, we are in some deep trouble.
- Lauren Reed: Ben, great. There you are. Can you take a look at this Certificate of Authenticity that came with the painting?
- Ben Grogan: As much as the implied contractual warranties of modern art electrify me, I have a seven o'clock dinner.
- [walks away]
- Justin Patrick: [as Kate tries sneaking out of bed] Hey. You don't wanna stay?
- Kate Reed: I can't.
- [starts getting dressed]
- Kate Reed: I need to change for tomorrow.
- Justin Patrick: [as she leaves hurriedly] Don't ever change.
- Kate Reed: So, why didn't you work for your dad?
- Judge David Nicastro: [sighs, takes off glasses] I didn't have a reason. Which, let me tell you, is confusing when you're young. And I took that out on him. And it was a while before I realized that I had a... calling. By then he was gone. I don't think he would have understood anyway. Words never do much good.
- [glasses go back on]
- Kate Reed: Yay, lawyers.
- Judge David Nicastro: You're very good at what you do, Miss Reed, but... you've never been about the words.
- Kate Reed: Well then, what am I about?
- Judge David Nicastro: You're here at the very moment that I did not wanna be alone.
