There will be blood & laughs, "That's a Morgan brothers guarantee" ◆≈≈7.4/10≈≈◆
Thrill_KillZ30 June 2013
Co-writer/directors Cameron and Colin Cairnes, in their feature film debut, successfully deliver all the essential elements needed to both make you laugh & squirm in their new black comedy "100 Bloody Acres". A story of two unscrupulous brothers, Reg(Damon Herriman) and Lindsay Morgan(Angus Sampson) and their quest to be the unrivaled top dogs of the local fertilizer industry, a status that they will stop at nothing to achieve. After a tragic accident claims six lives in town, the two swipe the bodies from the scene and after adding them to their special "mix", they become the champions of the fertilizer biz.

Our story starts out with Reg, while out driving one day he encounters a trio of kids, Sophie(Anna McGahan),James(Oliver Ackland) and Wesley(Jamie Kristian) who happen to have the bad luck of having car trouble and are looking for a ride into town to attend a local music festival. At first Reg resists, but after some thought & a little nagging, he reluctantly welcomes James & Wes into the back of his cube truck & Sophie up front to ride with him. Any good intentions soon vanish as the guys discover the body of a man Reg previously collected from an accident scene. Thus the film descends into a quite comical & altogether gory fight as the trio does their best to remain "unprocessed" at the brother's fertilizer factory.

While the plot consisted of conventional & somewhat clichéd ideas it used those elements to their maximum potential. With fine acting from the entire cast, skillful gore effects and proper production values, the film managed some serious laugh out loud moments while also delivering a few bona fide quirky uncomfortable scenes of horror, all of which were delivered in fun, as it stayed mainly on the black comedy track. If you don't mind gore and have the urge for a hilarious Aussie dark comedy, I absolutely recommend it.

Entertaining horror comedy
Groverdox30 November 2019
"100 Bloody Acres" is a very entertaining little horror comedy from Oz. I don't have a whole lot to say about it, except that I enjoyed it.

The set-up is that three people are travelling to some music festival, where they flag down a truck driven by a guy in the fertilizer business, played by Damon Herriman, who recently played Charles Manson. They don't know that the origins of this famous fertilizer sold by Herriman and his brother - unlikely Aussie sex symbol Angus Sampson - is ground up human flesh.

We get some pretty typical scenes with people tied up, trying to escape, but the movie really sings with the scenes with Sampson and Herriman. Sampson's portrayal as the gruff, intimidating brains behind the evil operation is the movie's strong suit.

The movie has a few quite violent moments, but at least it spares us the tedious torture porn rubbish we get in so many horror flicks these days.

As a horror comedy, of course the movie is never scary or suspenseful, but nor is it really laugh out loud funny. However, it does manage a light, humorous tone throughout that keeps a smile on your face.

Unfunny "horror" film
Marcus-Aurelius9025 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
100 Bloody Acres was pretty bloody awful. The acting was good, but when the screenplay is this bad you really have to feel sorry for the actors for doing such a commendable job with such a weak script.

Horribly unfunny.

What little humor there was in this movie was of the situational variety, which works well in a TV sitcom if the jokes and acting back it up. In this film the acting was good, but thats it. There was nothing funny about it at all. It was a poor attempt to cash in on the success of Shaun of the Dead, without that movie's charm and charisma and .. most importantly .. actual humor.

A couple of gross out moments tried to save it, but really? A masturbation scene and a maternal incest scene? What were they going for? Australian Pie? Just poor taste and unfunny. This movie sucked.

Morgan's Organic.
morrison-dylan-fan8 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
With a friend having recently travelled to Australia to visit family,I decided to find a Aussie Horror title she could enjoy over Halloween. Searching on Amazon UK,I found a 100 acre Aussie Horror Comedy.

View on the film:

Down on the farm with the Morgan's, co-writers/directors Cameron Cairnes & Colin Cairnes harvest Ozploitation gore with uneven gallows humour. Stuffing the soundtrack with thigh-slapping Hicksploitation Aussie Country tunes, the directors give the Morgan's human meat grinding a grubby, dried blood and sand appearance which gets under the nails in the most grisly splatter moments. Hitch-Hiking a trio into the Morgan's business, the directors chop thick slices of black comedy from sheer over the top level of pain inflicted on the trio. Although the Horror-Comedy hits when dealing in Slap-Stick, the screenplay by Cairnes and Cairnes has an oddly dry tone, due to little time being given to build the Morgan's as a serious threat before the hit and miss darkly comedic one-liners roll out across 100 bloody acres.

Lunatic comedy
thefan-221 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
You find out your girlfriend has been cheating on you. You start quizzing her about it. You want not only number of times but when, where, what specific acts did they perform, everything. Your obsession with it is so intense that you start to sound a little bit not right in the head. You just won't let it go.

Now, imagine this conversation takes place while you and your girlfriend are both bound and bloody, and waiting for a couple of maniacs to grind you up into human fertilizer in a giant meat-grinder. That's how crazy this movie is. I especially loved the Aussie country music, which is every bit as goofy as you'd expect.

I have no proof of this, but I suspect the movie was inspired by an Ambrose Bierce story called "Oil of Dog."

Offbeat horror comedy that doesn't break any new ground but does entertain
firstruleofmethclub11 March 2015
This Aussie romp about inept murder-brothers (played by Angus Sampson

and Damon Herriman) exemplifies what a horror-comedy should be. The quips are laugh-out-loud worthy, the physical humour is never absurd or bad enough to take you out of the moment, the premise is original enough, the reference humour is played well and doesn't get in your face (which I truly appreciate, and makes for the much better laugh), it's just haphazard enough to feel roller-coaster-y without feeling disjointed, from a formulaic standpoint it stands heads and shoulders above most other films of the genre. Unfortunately, this is about all that 100 Bloody Acres can really say for itself. It's true there's virtually nothing bad about it, but nothing stands out about beyond this either. It's a solid film, a recommendable one even, but there's no real staying factor here, and I fear its value will slip with the passing of time, which is unfortunate for such a rare bit of perfectly-toeing-the-line horror/comedy. 68% -Gimly

We're not bad people
nogodnomasters27 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Sophie (Anna McGahan) along with her BF (Oliver Ackland) and Wesley (Jamie Kristian) a male rival are headed via the back roads to a music festival when their automobile breaks down. They get a ride from Reg Morgan (Damon Herriman) who is driving the company truck of Morgan Brother's "Blood and Bone" organic fertilizer. Not too hard to figure the rest out.

The film has some blood splatter scenes, but lacks the gore. This slasher film is in part dark comedy as Reg, is the younger partner brother who is insecure in what he does as well as being sexually repressed. While facing death, Sophie's boyfriend is more concerned about her infidelity, wanting to know the details of what she did, rather than being worried about the situation at hand.

The film is a good concept, but comes off as going through the motions. Okay as a rental.

Parental Guide: F-bomb, no sex or nudity. One scene of apparent self gratification.

100 Bloody Minutes
michaelradny21 September 2015
Australian horror-comedy, 100 Bloody Acres starts off promising enough, but falls flat quickly as it falls into the trap of recycling past material. The film fails at both being a comedy and a horror; being cheap, tacky and clichéd, this film doesn't reach any height that a toddler couldn't.

Quite a boring expedition into the 'Wild Australian Outback' with this mock of a Wolf Creek like killer. This film adds nothing new to the genres, whilst also being completely unoriginal in it's approach. Do yourself a favor and skip this film, as I'm sure you can find a better one with the same story.

Not bad for this genre.
deloudelouvain14 March 2023
For their debut brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes did a good job, promising for the future. 100 Bloody Acres is supposed to be an horror comedy, a genre that normally works well when done right, and it wasn't a bad attempt. I thought it was more horror than comedy though. Personally I would have made it even bloodier to give it more notoriety, a movie to remember. The good things about this movie were the cinematography and the acting, it all looked professional. The story was pleasant to follow, certainly for this genre of movie. Australian slashers, there are already a bunch of good ones and this one has its place in that genre.

A mixed-bag Aussie horror
Leofwine_draca9 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
100 BLOODY ACRES is something of a mixed bag when it comes to horror film-making. To begin with, it's an entirely derivative piece of work, which begins with the usual hitchhiking twentysomethings hitching a lift with the wrong person and soon coming to regret it. The shadow of WOLF CREEK and its ilk hangs heavy over this torture-themed film and once the cheesy bloodshed begins, it's all rather silly.

But some of the silliness is intentional. 100 BLOODY ACRES is posited as a black comedy so the laughs here are largely intentional. The problem with this set-up is the viewer needs to have the same sense of humour as the writers and that's not always the case here as sometimes the humour feels forced and laborious. The main villain of the piece is an annoyance rather than imposing or amusing although the supporting cast members are pretty decent and make for likable victims. The set-up tends to be better than the pay-off and it all becomes a bit aimless in the second half, throwing in gross-out gags and random gore rather than telling much of a real story. WOLF CREEK it isn't (despite the John Jarratt cameo).

More of a comedy than anything else, in spite of the blood&gore. Two brothers run a dubious fertilizer factory requiring some secret ingredients
JvH487 April 2013
I saw this film at the Brussels fantastic film festival 2013 (BIFFF). It was announced as a Horror movie, but you are mistaken if you want something sinister. Everything happens in broad daylight. On the other hand, there was sufficient blood&gore to let it fall under the Horror category. Still, I found it more of a Comedy rather than anything else.

The plot elements were cleverly employed, like the use of human bodies (from travel accidents, at first) to "improve" the fertilizer that the two brothers produce. They have a lot of success with it, and demand is rising. Due to the latter, any human body that is found along the road that does not move, is carried away without proper medical review. That is where the story starts, soon involving three hitch hikers who pose an imminent danger to their secret operations. They thus become potential ingredients for their fertilizer production process. Though the cutting up of bodies is only shown once and not very directly, you can expect an abundance of blood sprayed around, tainting most of the bystanders who have every reason to assume they are next in line. Those movie lovers fainting on the sight of blood, are better off when they avoid this one.

The real secret ingredient of this film, however, is the humor that is incorporated all over the story, and works very well in hiding there is no real story to tell. Things happen in a logical sequence, though, but different from what we expected upfront. That is precisely the most important feature of this film. It is a Comedy rather than a Horror movie, is my conclusion, with the blood&gore only as binding element.

All in all, I found this Horror very enjoyable. I usually try to steer clear of blood&gore movies, but this time it is not the central theme that binds the scenes, unlike some other movies with no recognizable story line other than providing for reasons to miserably end other people's lives. In other words, the blood&gore is more entourage here than anything else. The relationship between the two fertilizer making brothers is much more important, as is the hasty and uncoordinated way they try to cover their tracks when the darker side of their business might be exposed. Along the line we witness various ways in which the younger brother tries to show initiative, in an attempt to outsmart his brother who obviously has the lead in everything. And the people who are so unlucky to get involved in their "factory", mostly fail to survive the encounter with all limbs intact, or even to escape alive for that matter. Hilarious scenes throughout, in spite of the darker aspects of the plot.

Not a comedy , not a horror
honeybloggs-696489 May 2019
As the reviews were between 8-10 and obviously positive , I kept on giving this movie 'another five minutes ' . But nothing much changed. It didn't get any better , This movie was very slow .If had been any slower it would have ground to a halt . It was also very , very boring . The directing was poor.

The set was very basic . It was basically a barn , woods , a couple of trucks , a car and house ....ooh and a radio ! Low budget movies can be good if the acting is superb . But I think the casting director had picked up some homeless people and stuck them in this movie to act in exchange for s few dollars . ( No disrespect to homeless people , they did an okay job considering they'd never acted before :D )

It wasn't a comedy and it wasn't a horror . Heck , I wouldn't even call it a movie ! It was just a bunch of people , wandering aimlessly around and mumbling out some words .

What amazes me about this movie is how it good reviews .

Nothing special but still enjoyable
deniskomaromi18 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
An enjoyable Aussie horror-comedy with the usual twisted sense of humour we're known for. A small, local compost business uses a certain type of road kill (people) as the secret ingredient in their compost mix, which they then sell to the local farmers, producing fantastic results. They haven't had a fresh batch in a while, it seems so lucky them when the younger brother Reggie stumbles on a car crash with a dead body at the scene.

On top of this, he picks up 3 hitchhikers with the intent that maybe they could be part of a fresh batch as well.

I've seen some people criticize that the main villains aren't scary or fleshed out enough as they should be and comparing it to Wolf Creek but I think the point is that they a) have only ever done this once before and it was with 6 dead bodies and b) are way in over their heads, especially with living people now.

The older brother Lindsay could definitely make a case for being your typical cold-blooded killer type, but he's unable to realise his full killer potential because he's too busy picking up after the mess Reggie makes trying to show some sort of initiative. It's because of Reggie that the situation goes on a constant, slow downward spiral of chaos and Lindsay isn't able to get a control over it. This is where a lot of the comedy and cringe comes from and it works well.

In fact, whilst nothing is outstanding, everything works fairly well; acting, cinematography, writing, directing, editing etc. There's nothing to complain about on the technical aspect in my opinion, nor the creative aspect. If you have a love or appreciation for gardening/horticulture then that'll definitely help with some of the humour.

The only way you might be let down is if you go into this expecting some kind of game-changing movie. This movie wasn't made to wow you in any way, so if you go in with the realistic expectation of just being entertained for 90 minutes then you'll be happy.

Bonus was the inclusion of Fairyland, a unique and kind-of terrifying place that's now sadly been closed due to vandals and lack of popularity after doing so well in the 70s and 80s.

This movie is well acted with just the right amount of humour to offset the dark theme.

Everyone plays their parts well and the story never gets boring.

A great cast and great direction.

Bloody aussie horror
aronharde6 April 2024
In 2012's 100 Bloody Acres we are introduced to a couple of hitchhikers, that find themselves in the hands of two brothers who own a fertilizer business using a secret ingredient. It's an Australian movie and that is made obvious right from the start and we immediately get thrown into a humorous chaotic mess that gets worse and worse, but in a good way. But only for the viewer of course because the movie is funny, bloody and definitely has some gore to show. The characters are all twisted and none of them are perfect and the movie had similar vibes to "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil" but without the fact that the two brothers are actually innocent. An even though these characters all have their sins and mistakes you will root for them in the end.

I definitely had my fun watching this and I thought the movie was highly entertaining, but obviously not flawless. And there's actually cameo from John Jarratt and it was a pleasure to see him in a movie like this. If you enjoy bloody horror comedies I can definitely recommend to watch this. [6,2/10]

100 Boring Minutes
MattBirk20 January 2015
I watched this movie because I was looking for movies similar to Tucker and Dale vs Evil and Housebound, both of which I'd rate an 8/10, loved those movies and their black humor. So I saw this was recommended by people who liked those. Boy are they crazy.

This movie is painfully slow. Very boring, the first 20 minutes are a snoozefest. Once the characters get kidnapped, you'd think the pace would pick up, nope. They slowly start showing more gore, but that doesn't save the movie.

The characters are boring which is what kills the movie. It's based around the drama of the characters and their history together, cheating with one another, proposing, and all that drama. It totally doesn't work.

The saving grace is the mild humor from one of the characters who takes 'acid' which gives some decent comedic moments. But certainly not enough to carry the movie.

Avoid this movie, the 5.7 rating is generous, (and that's not even high, when the average on IMDb is 7.0).

I was expecting Tuck and Dale vs Evil. This is not.
LincolnSixEko26 August 2022
It hardly has any comedy, the story is really stupid. And I mean it's a bad stupid not a good stupid. Not even gonna cut it if you've had a couple drinks or smokes. It's that's bad.

The movie just drags on and on with very little actually happening. Every 10 minutes or so I would wait a little longer in hopes something interesting would happen. The characters are shallow and predictable. The final act is SO terrible, and the ending is just stupid and makes no sense. This 90 minute movie feels much longer than that but in a bad way.

Just avoid this movie all together. Go watch Tucker and Dale or Shaun of you dead.

One bloody funny comedy
What this movie has going for it, is that it is an impressively funny comedy, and the gore isn't really that disturbing, because it looks very fake, but this is exactly how the film, was meant to be taken. It wonderfully succeeds in that department, making for a 2013 ocker hit. The always talented Herriman and his domineering brother, a real deeply dark, and disturbing performance by our Angus Sampson who played Prozac in Dags, run a dark organic fertilizer business, and have a guess what gets mixed in with the fertilizer. It's a little bit Motel Hellish, but far far better. There's some classic moments, and there's some of that real sharp cutting humor that made Two Hands the hit it was, and we do see a greater loss than hands go astray, and too we too have one gross, abhorrent, repellent, and gross, sex scene you'll never see coming, where if like Herriman, trying to acquire those keys, you'd want to parry your eyes as much as you could, or may'be sneak a peek in morbid fascination. Yes this film is a little morbid, and likable Anna Gaghan as one of the hostage witnesses to Herriman's and Angus's insane operation, again shows her natural and realistic acting as a two timing sl.. no I won't say that word, who now falls in love with Reg, (Herriman) and you probably, thinking they live happily ever after right. Well I wouldn't want to ruin it for it. It's no surprise Jarratt shows up in this as a motorcycle cop. I loved the pom, one of Gaghan's lays, he was a hoot and really attributed to the life of the film, especially in the humor area, which this indie film rides high on. Sampson's performance rules the film though.

A Funny and Twisted Dark Comedy.
kdavies-693473 April 2016
I ran across this movie while looking up information on the actor Angus Sampson, after my girlfriend and I finished the second season of Fargo. I was impressed with his serious and somewhat viciously silent Bear Gerhart, and wanted to look up a couple of his other film. I wasn't disappointed with '100 Bloody Acres, and is a great addition to the dark-comedy genre.

The real gem in this film is the comedy duo of Reg and Lindsay Morgan; two bumbling bogan brothers who run their own fertilizer business in rural Australia. Damon Herriman plays the younger of the two (Reg) who only lives to impress his brother played by Angus Sampson. They have a strange relationship to say the least (some odd kissing scenes going on there too), but you definitely get the feeling that something is completely messed up with these guys from the get go. They play off each others' dialogue, action and mistakes so well, that it's easy to believe they're siblings just trying to make ends meet, but are so mental that they both suffer from the same disorder: severe stupidity.

Sure the movie is fairly predictable throughout, and there is some absolutely terrible acting from the main trio who end up in trouble, but events unfold and there are some very funny and gross moments in this film. I credit Cameron and Colin Cairnes with some excellent comedic writing, and some pretty funny dialogue. Direction wise it's a short and sweet little film without too much going on. It's a very A to B plot line, and they didn't bother with any useless plot twists. The jokes are well timed, but few and far in between which resulted in a few dead scenes that were absolutely bothersome to get through. By the end of the film, they were definitely focusing on the dark and gory side of things.

If you enjoy a twisted comedy then I would recommend this one.

Give or take
kosmasp26 November 2013
At the Festival I saw this, many compared it to "Tucker & Dale", but I think that is not an accurate assessment. Both are comedies with horror elements if you will (or the other way around), but the way they are presented is more than different. Not to mention the facets of the characters involved here.

Tucker and Dale is simpler, which is not supposed to be a judgment, I loved the movie. I'm just saying that I thought this is great in its own right too. The comedy has different, sometimes uneven, but therefor darker tone. It's a movie you have to be in the mood for I guess and I totally was. Thought almost every joke worked in this and the changes in pace were nice too (changes in genres too sometimes).

Full of dark humor and twisted gore!
Hellmant4 July 2013
'100 BLOODY ACRES': Four Stars (Out of Five)

Brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes make their feature film debut writing and directing this Australian horror/comedy film about brothers who run an organic fertiliser business that's dependent on dead bodies (as it's secret ingredient) to make it work so well. One of the brother's comes across three partygoers, on their way to a music festival, and brings them home to introduce to his big brother (and the family business). The movie stars character actors Damon Herriman and Angus Sampson as the brothers and the beautiful Anna McGahan as one of their captured victims. The movie is full of dark humor and twisted gore. If you like dark Australian comedy and horror this is the movie for you.

Lindsay Morgan (Sampson) and his brother Reg (Herriman) have been running a successful organic fertiliser business for some time, that's finally getting it's first radio add, but the only problem is it's dependent on dead bodies, ran through a meat grinder, to make it work so well. The Morgan brothers have been collecting car crash victims to supply this 'secret ingredient' to their fertiliser and as the film opens Reg has just found another body at a crash site. While he's hauling the body home though he comes across a young woman, Sophie (McGahan), and her two male friends (Oliver Ackland and Jamie Kristian). Due to the lack of dead bodies recently he decides to take them home, to his brother Lindsay, to use as the fertiliser ingredient instead (in an attempt to impress his bossy older brother). Things don't go as planned though as Reg develops feelings for Sophie.

If you couldn't tell the movie is part romance as well (twisted romance). It's definitely not for the faint of heart though (or for those who become sickened by the site of blood and gore) but as a dark comedy and horror film it really works. OK, it mainly just works as a dark comedy (as it's neither scary nor very disturbing) but it is gruesome. It also surprisingly has a lot of heart. The Reg character is actually pretty likable and Sophie is one of the coolest and most ideal women a guy could hope for. I love films like this; their great as long as you don't take them seriously.

Horror, gore and comedy.
michaelRokeefe13 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This Australian horror movie is directed and written by brothers Cameron and Colin Cairnes. Quirky, funny and bloody. Brothers Reg(Damon Herriman)and Lindsay(Angus Sampson)Brown own and operate an organic fertilizer company and are running a bit behind on orders due to the lack of their "special ingredient"...road kill. As Reg is running the roads in search of well, you know...three friends James, Sophie and Wesley encounter car trouble on their way to a much anticipated music festival. The agitated trio have no idea what is in store for them, when Reg rescues them with perverse intentions. It is not hard to convince Lindsay to fire up the grinder, when Reg arrives with fresh stock to complete the current run of fertilizer.

Besides being funny, there are enough moments that will have you cringing, flinching and possibly gagging. Laughter and splatter in the right proportions makes for an enjoyable flick...no matter how sick of mind you are. How can the compost business get any more interesting? This horror film is a hoot! Rounding out the cast: Anna McGahan, Oliver Ackland, James Kristian, John Jarratt and Paul Blackwell.
