Fremantle’s UK drama production outfit Castlefield has secured the TV rights to Cara Hunter’s bestselling crime novels, featuring Detective Inspector Adam Fawley.
Castlefield is yet to find a home for the adaptation, but is developing a series based on Hunter’s four books, which have topped The Sunday Times and Amazon bestseller lists in the UK.
Each novel follows Di Fawley as he investigates a domestic tragedy or crime that demands answers from the victim’s family and friends. In the first book, Close To Home, he looks into the disappearance of an eight-year-old girl from a family party.
Hunter said: “I’ve always ‘seen’ the Fawley books play out in my head as I write them, and the style I developed for them was a deliberate attempt to replicate the feel and pace of the best TV crime – the short scenes, the fast pace, and the changing points of view.

One of the consequences of the BBC’s decision to start up their own streaming service (how dare they) is that a lot of their shows will soon be departing from their competitors.
Britbox, in partnership with ITV, launched in the UK last November, and now the content available elsewhere has started to catch up. Today we’re going to run through the wealth of titles that’ll exit Netflix UK at the end of March. There’s a lot to run down, too. And yes, this is redundant for American readers. You’re more than welcome to stay for tea, though (which is more than just a cultural stereotype).
First up – and probably of most interest – are the BBC comedies leaving on March 30th:
A Bit of Fry and Laurie (4 Seasons) Absolutely Fabulous (6 Seasons) Almost Royal (2 Seasons) Daniel Deronda (1 Season) Extras (2 Seasons) Fawlty Towers (2 Seasons) French and Saunders (6 Seasons...

Our genre television podcast hosts discuss lesser known shows that sci-fi/supernatural stars were in before they were famous.
Television stars don't always achieve fame on their first project. But beyond all of the guest spots and hopping between commercials, films, and procedurals, it can be somehow satisfying to realize that some of our favorite science fiction, fantasy, horror, and supernatural actors were in earlier, lesser known series in those same genres before they were in the show that we know them for. Sometimes, this previous work is best left to obscurity, but that's part of the fun of discovery.
In this episode of Sci Fi Fidelity, we talk about some notable examples of well-known genre actors that had other large roles that didn't exactly win them the notoriety they would later achieve. We start of with Lindy Booth of The Librarians, who was surprised...

The world of Doctor Who has changed greatly in the space of just 10 years. The cast and crew have almost completely been replaced since 2005, including a number of new actors to play the errant Time Lord and his companions.
But what has happened to the class of '05? Where are Rose and Mickey now? What is the writer of 'Dalek' up to? And where can you see more work from the director of 'Rose'?
Here it is then, your guide to the main players of Doctor Who series one.
The Cast
After his three-month on-screen stint as the Doctor, Christopher Eccleston's career continued in much the same vein, taking in theatre, interesting television roles and the odd blockbuster.
Post-2005, the Northern actor went Stateside to take on the role of invisible man Claude in the Us series Heroes. From there, he popped up in a very amusing Doctor Who-esque cameo as Dr.

The unforgettable, thrilling and haunting tale centers on 16-year-old Jacob (played by Asa Butterfield), who follows clues that take him to a mysterious island, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores the abandoned bedrooms and hallways, he discovers that its former occupants were far more than peculiar; they possessed incredible powers. And they may still be alive.

You've heard of Breaking Bad, Orange Is The New Black & House Of Cards, what about Danger 5, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Darknet and more?…
Quite understandably, column inches can't fill up quickly enough with praise for the likes of Netflix original series House Of Cards, Orange Is The New Black, Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul and Marvel's Daredevil. What though, about some of the lesser-known series available on the UK streaming site?
Sweeping past the well-publicised riches of Doctor Who, Sherlock, Arrested Development, Community and the like, we've ventured into the slightly dustier shelf of TV shows available on Netflix UK that may be lesser-known or less widely celebrated than the big hitters out there, but are still richly deserving of your time. Some are new, some are old, some were cancelled long ago, some are ongoing, several are from outside the UK and Us.

Comic book adaptation Lucifer has found its leading man – EastEnders, Doctor Who and Miranda star Tom Ellis…
Adding another name to the long list of British actors who have headed to Hollywood to portray American comic book characters, Welsh actor Tom Ellis has now been cast in Fox’s Lucifer pilot, as you may have heard over the weekend.
Depending on your tastes in television, there are many roles you could recognise Tom Ellis from. He landed a small but significant role as Thomas Milligan in Doctor Who’s Last Of The Time Lords, a 29-episode stint as Dr. Oliver in EastEnders and a series regular role as Gary in BBC comedy Miranda. To our cousins across the pond, he might be better known as William P. Rush in the medical-themed TV drama Rush.
He will take the title role in Lucifer, based on Mike Carey and Peter Gross’ comic of the same name,...

This weekend's horror offering, Hammer's The Quiet Ones (review), is supposedly based upon true events. So we figured we'd look around and come up with the actual video of said events. Curious? Take a look!
The film draws inspiration from the Philip Experiment of 1972, in which Canadian academic researchers tried to prove that telekinesis, poltergeists, and the like manifest solely through the human mind.
A quick trip to YouTube yielded some fruits for us paranormal-loving souls. The video you see below contains actual footage from the aforementioned experiment, and honestly? It's pretty damned interesting. Check it out, and tell us what you make of it!

Ready for more Hammer Films scares? Check out the first teaser for the deliciously creepy The Quiet Ones.
It was announced in May that Lionsgate had acquired North American distribution rights from Exclusive Media to the supernatural thriller.
The film will be in theaters April 11, 2014.
Inspired by true events, The Quiet Ones tells the story of an unorthodox professor (played by ‘Mad Men’s Jared Harris) who uses controversial methods and leads his best students off the grid to take part in a dangerous experiment: to create a poltergeist.
Based on the theory that paranormal activity is caused by human negative energy, the rogue scientists perform a series of tests on a young patient, pushing her to the edge of sanity.
As frightening occurrences begin to take place with shocking and gruesome consequences, the group quickly realizes they have triggered a force more terrifying and evil than they ever could have imagined.

Sean Maguire is joining the cast of Once Upon A Time, replacing fellow UK actor, Tom Ellis...
Borrowing a move from the world of soap opera, ABC fantasy series Once Upon A Time (read our spoiler-filled season two reviews, here) has swapped one actor for another in an existing role. That's not all it's borrowed from soap either, as the new recruit in question is former Eastenders actor and nineties pop kestrel Sean Maguire.
Maguire is taking over the role of Robin Hood, previously filled by Miranda and The Secret of Crickley Hall's Tom Ellis in season two episode Lacey. Ellis was unavailable to reprise the part for season three, necessitating Maguire to take up the mantle.
"Although we love Tom Ellis, unfortunately he wasn't available," OUaT co-creator Adam Horowitz told TV Line. "We remain huge fans of his, but because we have...

If it wasn’t already a good time to be Iain De Caestecker, what with graduating from soaps to the likes of The Fades and The Secret Of Crickley Hall, it certainly is now. He already has a regular role on Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., co-created and overseen by some bloke called Whedon, and he’s now been picked to star in Ryan Gosling’s directorial debut How To Catch A Monster. After a long hunt for the right person, Gosling selected De Caestecker to play Christina Hendricks’ son in the film, which is now shooting. Hendricks' Billy is a single mother who is swept into a dark underworld, with her teenage son (De Caestecker, who's actually 26 and only 13 years younger than his screen mother) journeying to a secret underwater town. They have to confront challenges to save their family. The cast also includes Matt Smith, Saoirse Ronan (who...

Sugartown. co. BBC
Kieran Kinsella
Acorn Media’s latest DVD release Sugartown is a throwback to the classic British sitcoms in which buffoonish busybody’s and snobs do battle with decent hard working folk. The three episode show made its British TV debut in 2011 but surprisingly it never aired in the U.S. Thankfully, Acorn Media do a pretty good job of snatching up all the great shows that BBC America bizarrely overlook and this is one show that is well worth watching.
Sugartown is based around a candy or sweets factory in the North of England that has for years been the focal point of the local community. The factory is best known for producing the type of colorful rock candy that has been keeping NHS dentists busy for the past 70 years. As the show begins, sales are down and Jason Burr (Shaun Dooley) is struggling to keep the family owned factory afloat.
