Everything a documentary short should be.

This is a super little documentary that explores the impact of laundrettes on British society. Told through the voices of regular uses of laundrettes and accompanied by stylised images from laundrettes in towns and cities it reveals a strange love-affair towards them by those that use them. What emerges is an establishment that is both functional and social - and crucial. Even though we only hear the voices of the characters during this film it has been expertly crafted to ensure the viewer can easily identify with each of these characters and bring their own interpretations to their observations. Another feat which the director has managed to accomplish quite brilliantly is to ensure the laundrette becomes a character itself throughout the film, no easy task. Quirky use of music and a delightful use of childhood toys to create innovative chapter headings blend beautifully with the main body of the production to create an intimate and highly-watchable documentary that opens a window on a world few of us have explored in great detail yet which is a fabric of society.
