Amy Schumer Lumbers Into Another SNL with Predictable Resuls
bkkaz6 November 2022
So, the man-bashing Amy Schumer -- who now makes jokes about her autistic husband, how sweet -- shows up for yet another SNL. The good thing about Schumer . . . Well, good might not be the right word . . . Is she's consistent. You can expect any SNL she hosts to pretty much do away with the male cast members except in situations where they have to be dumb and wanting, like the labored sketch about a twerp who won't go to therapy unless it's somehow linked to the size of his reproductive organ. Wow, funny. Insightful.

This line of thought runs throughout the sketches, going one further to propose the -- gasp! -- horrible proposition that White women might want and compete over an Asian man. Yeah, because nothing is funnier than male bashing except maybe toxic reacism and stereotyping. Never mind that the musical guest has a Filipino mother. Then there's the sketch about lunch with the ladies, where the only men are in the background.

That's Schumer because -- wink! Wink! -- it's okay to be bigoted trash as long as you make it into a joke.

There's some nonsense that's about three minutes too long about hats, only this one makes fun of the "dumb women" who wear them. I guess that's supposed to balance things out.

Was there anything funny about this episode? No. Everything continues to be off. Colin Jost for some reason does his tired schtick about -- wait for it -- being a bigot against Black people, even though this isn't one of those episodes where he and Michael Che write jokes for each other. Che, by the way, seemed on the verge of passing out. Did he test positive for COVID? What's going on?

Punkie Johnson is now a regular cast member. Why? She does almost nothing each episode, and she did almost nothing here.

It's rather sad how SNL continues to decline.

CRACKED PLUS: Fallen + Can't Get Up
yohnny7 November 2022
The "Big Dumb Hat" infomercial would have been funnier if all three of the hats had become progressively much dumber and bigger instead of just the one in the middle gaining a ridiculously wide brim. It was a missed opportunity.

Cecily Strong's imitation of a truck beeping as it slowly backed up was cute.

Otherwise, I didn't get the jokes. Actually, I got all of the jokes. They were not funny.

Kenan did his usual best to chime in a few times and hold down the fort.

"Don't kick a dead mule," you say? What if the poor beast has merely fallen and can't get up? You might be performing an act of kindness.

The celebrity hostess added nothing special to the show. I've never heard of the music guest.

"Talk amongst yourselves." ~ Linda Richman.

It gets worse and worse

How does this stuff get past the review process before it's allowed to go on the air?

It's painfully UNfunny and the sketches go from embarrassingly bad to just plain pathetic.

It only comes on in our house by accident as I'm flicking through the channels but even a fleeting look sets it off to the next channel almost automatically. You simply can't watch it.

As I've said before, New York/ American humor has a nasty streak to it but it also has some brilliant comedy like Seinfeld , Curb your enthusiasm and Cheers.

These were clever satires and had quite intelligent scripts to keep you amused but these SNL skits are just shallow insults to politicians and society, No amount of script doctoring can fix this thing and only very rarely does a musical act make it worth watching.

Do us all a favor and give it a decent burial wontcha?

Sick of the Hater Army
anderbilt15 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm getting pretty tired of the Hater Army that does nothing but trash Amy Schumer in every public forum they can shove their fat ridiculous typing fingers into. This episode of Saturday Night Live greatly benefitted from the comedic stylings of Ms Schumer, and was at most points of the show, significantly funnier than at similar points in many other SNL hosted by both the talented hosts, and the what-the-eff-were-they-thinking host spectrum. Funny. Created by comedy experts. Enjoyed by millions in spite of the dark dark shade and negative crap you want to redecorate it all with. Ok the Tina the Trucker bit during Weekend Update blew chunks, but the rest was awesome. Really. Cut it out. Go away.

This was embarrassing

Some episodes of SNL are bad because a non-actor non-comedian tries their hand at it (see last week), but some are bad due to not living up to expectations.

Amy Schumer is a comedian, surely she should have a better episode than Jack Harlow double duty right? No, it turns out.

This episode failed Amy's potential due to incredibly lackluster writing. The opening skit had zero imagination, but I think the absolute worst was the jury member one. I'm not sure how it's possible to be so unfunny.

IMO a big problem with this season is that performers like Bowen Yang who started out on SNL very strong 2 years ago are as of late becoming very one-note with their jokes. But he's not alone there, practically every skit was "tell one joke...repeat" this whole episode, and frankly this whole season.

Another problem is that we get repetitive skits, and then also repetitive performances. Cecily Strong's Weekend Update bit was nearly 100% identical to another bit she did on the exact same topic last season. The message is fine but...you already did it a year ago. Replace "trucker" with "clown", same bit.

There are some truly talented comedians out there in the world. Maybe this show should do a reality tv series to find some of them. They couldn't do any worse than they have this season.
