I truly enjoyed this short. I thought that the family was wonderfully cast and fit their parts perfectly, so important in a character based film like this. The acting was really strong and the family dynamic felt very true. I liked how the film handled the lead character's obsession with the chupacabra without judgment, leaving viewers to draw their own conclusions about his state of mind.
The mis-en-scene was well-handled, especially for a low budget film; very moody and slightly creepy without being overt or overbearing. The slightly claustrophobic family home was a great incubator for this story of obsession. Another standout was the music. The composer did a fine job of seizing on a mood of disturbance and unease and the orchestration was lovely.
I hope to see more work from Katie Carman soon.
