Making History

Peter, Olivia, Walter and Etta head in a van to a coordinate in Northern Pennsylvania as per Walter's instruction in a videotape. Meanwhile Astrid stays in the laboratory in Harvard trying to fix the tape. They meet Edwin Massey and his group that record history in a computerized file system for the next generations. Astrid succeeds to understand the rest of the video and informs that they should find a mine and get some rocks that are necessary to generate energy power. But the problem is, the mine would kill whoever try to reach the lower level since its atmosphere calcifies the human body. Further, Etta receives a phone call from the resistance telling that The Observers are approaching to the location based on an information from a loyalist that tracked them down. What will the group do?

"The Recordist" is another great episode of "Fringe" with an emotional story. The situation of the historians trying to preserve the true human history is sad, and the conclusion with Edwin's sacrifice is touching. My vote is eight.

Warning: Spoilers
Human Beings have an insane obsession with documenting things. Going back to the earliest of Civilizations, to Today. Sometimes that documentation forms the basis of a religion, sometimes it becomes the basis of an entertainment. This is because it is Human Nature to grasp onto a thing, and wanting to hear more, they will create more.

What do people do, when they have to leave their homes and live in the forest? They continue to Document things, and sometimes, even make comic books out of perceived Heroes. In this case, Fringe Division.

Walter and Astrid are continuing to dig Tapes out of Amber: Right under the very noses of the secret Observer laboratory at Harvard. Walter De- Ambers a large quantity of Marijuana at the same time his Doppelganger in the Video Tape ingests some.

The Tape instructs them to travel to rural Pennsylvania, and a flat tire has them stopped on the side of the road for an instant - Long enough for an Observer video device to find them, and Windmark sends out the Loyalists.

Meanwhile, Fringe Division comes to a remote wooded area and is met by a strange community - A Community which supports one person: A Man who oversees a huge library of crystals documenting events since the Invasion of The Observers. But the price they have to pay to be left alone is that they have to suffer the effects of The Observers Pollution of the Earth's Atmosphere.

Walter's Objective is down in a Mineshaft, and no way to get down there without being "carbonized" by whatever thing is down there. Walter knows a way to do it, but it requires metals that the camp they are visiting do not have, but another camp nearby may have some.

Paul McGillion is Edwin Massey, "The Recordist"-His son "River" (Connor Beardmore) has been idolizing Fringe Division, he is the one who draws the Fringe Comic Books, which is a curt nod to the Fringe comics that Joshua Jackson wrote the summer before last, telling the tale of how the pieces of "The Vacuum" were left in place.

I am still dismayed that there are only now 10 episodes left, this is the first episode of this season where Fringe Division is back to the "Investigate and Solve" thing they do best. Walter finds out what is causing "X Conundrum," solves it, and Peter and Olivia implement the solution. Not this time. In this episode, Peter and Olivia still have healing to do, and Olivia still has trouble dealing with her original loss of Etta, and somehow still can't accept that Henrietta is there, with them now, and that family that she lost is whole again, even in the strange landscape they are now meandering through.

The Parallel of this episode is of course, The Masseys, father and son, passing knowledge down the old fashioned way. This is a family which is about to face loss, the way Peter and Olivia faced it, right before "The Purge."

Meanwhile, Loyalist Hummers are in the area, and have found the trail of Etta's Van. Can Fringe Division get what they came to get, then get out, before Loyalists catch them?

In order for that to happen, the loyalists need to be diverted away from the colony of The Recordist. But Fringe Division finds an old friend, and Walter finds a new pair of Sunglasses. "Now, that's a ride"

Warning: Spoilers
The guys found tape number 1 that Walter in the past warned everyone about. It was actually tape 3 that the gang found because Walter has placed them all out of order. This tape tells an important location to the task for the guys. Walter does not want to the place told about in the video but he must go because they cannot leave anyone behind. When the gets to the open area they see someone is watching them. It turns out that there was more then one person out there and now they have guns. They are taken to more people and one of them recognizes the people from the past. Walter is then shown a place where history since the invasion is shown including past news of the fringe division. The people who live here seem to develop this markings on their skin but Walter cannot leave until he gets his plan. Astrid looking at the video hears him say that he must find a mine so they go looking in it. Back in Manhatton the crew are seen and followed to the rural areas. When the crew get into the the mine they find that people effected in the mine could become worse so Walter must do some investigating. Just then everyone seems to be getting the marks on people's skin so it means they must leave soon. Henrietta then gets a call saying they are being followed and need to get out of there. Olivia and Peter talk about the past especially Olivia who can remember so much including thinking her daughter had died back then. The grew can get the materials they need but the group leader cannot go as he does not want to lose his child. There was no copper at the other camp so the group leader let himself go in order to help the revolution. Good episode and has made some good things to happen in the future.

Walter, a genius with several screws loose, has left tapes that explain his plan. His distractibility throws roadblocks all along the way. He is a hedonist in that he is like a dog seeing squirrel. If he enjoys something he forgets what the real issues are. Anyway, the group is led to northern Pennsylvania, where they encounter a group of people who have holed up so they can continue to catalogue history. In the process, Astrid keeps finding clarification and it seems there is a kind of quartz that is the next answer. What follows are acts of courage from those who have so little. There is a disease that is tearing through the meager population.
