About other review: the 5/10 review was apparently written about another show, Captain Planet; see the last line of that review.

Jane & Maura, good team. I like this show for its combination of light heartedness and emotional depth.

Well-crafted episode, but inappropriate

This episode stood out to me in a number of ways. Most notably, the acting, directing, cinematography and script were all vastly superior to the rest of the series. I'd be hard-pressed to think of another episode in which I have felt so much pathos for the protagonists. The storyline of their wounded friendship (though the circumstances surrounding it were extreme) reflected an experience to which anyone who has ever lost a friend can relate.

That said, the episode contains two murders, two attempted murders, and a sub-plot about a son who has had carnal knowledge of his father's betrothed. Regardless of the quality of the filmmaking and storytelling, I simply can't reconcile that sort of content with a show aimed at children. In summary, despite its excellent craftsmanship, I simply can't recommend this episode of Captain Planet.
