Tom P at the wilbur
ksf-219 December 2022
His one hour standup show on the netflix. Funny commentary on real life. Surviving the pandemic. Remembering usernames and passwords. Commenting on the vanity of men, and at the same time, the self-doubting women who seem to put up with those men. How one night could decide the rest of your lives while dating. So many jokes about married life. Funny stuff! All in good humor. And how we're all really slowly dying anyway. And not getting enough sleep. And how miserable airplane travel really is. Kind of a seinfeld look at everyday life. Fun to watch. I had heard him numerous times on sirius xm, so it was good to finally see him doing standup on a stage.

"Anything you don't do by 70, you don't have to do."

Warning: Spoilers
Tom Papa picks up on his humorous observations of everyday life which I'd first experienced with his 2020 special 'You're Doing Great'. What I like about him is that he's able to do an entire routine without resorting to gutter language with every other sentence, although he does throw in a four letter every now and then. Here he has insights on active old people and how men are basically horrible, punctuated by the observation that "It's weird being a human being, isn't it?" My favorite though was when he went into an extended monolog about pugs, the canine variety. My granddaughter is a big pug fan, so I have to have her sit in on a rewatch. She won't be amused but I'll have fun watching her reaction. Younger viewers probably won't find the humor in Papa's delivery, but I think he's pretty good. He gave me a few laugh out loud moments and that's what I tuned in for.

I think Tom Papa is the best of them all

Judging by how much time I spent laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes, reaching for my inhaler so I could catch my breath, Tom Papa is the funniest comedian working right now. I like lots of them, and for different reasons - Chappelle, Maniscalco, Nick Kroll - but for pure hilarity, Papa takes the cake. He just goes to work on you like a boxer. Hitting you with these jokes where he keeps layering on something more, like the wife with her mouth piece in getting up six times in the night to pee, her ankle popping... omg. Or the pug, it's body like a fat turkey, it's little lady feet sticking out, with eyes from some other animal... Papa is a genius, pure and simple. And a sweetheart too, always with a positive message. This man is simply the best.

Just Keeps Getting Better and Better

I gave this 10 stars based on how much I laughed with tears in my eyes. Tom Papa's material and delivery is the most entertaining stand up out there. He does it without resorting to scatological or vulgar humour. He doesn't get political, racial or divisive. He delves deep into our funny bone where every day occurrences like a couple's bed time routine is highlighted to the tune of the funniest thing in your day. The way he describes it, had both my husband and I gasping for air through our laughter. Love it when he said that when he tries to read a book, that this must be a signal to his wife that he's bored and therefore a good time to tell him about his sister's mortgage extension (something like that).

His material is for grown ups, couples, families with real every day stuff that translates to fodder for comedy, making it hilarious as he reflects it back to the audience. The only other time I've laughed this hard was at his other stand up specials. Well done, Tom, keep it coming.
