she finally said it
sleepyari11 January 2024
Let me start off by saying how much I loved the gruffiness and character of Ares. He's edgy and wild and a little comedic. It makes his character a little bit more complex and fun. I loved how vulnerable Annabeth is in this episode. She started off with a little more edge and a harder mask because of her past but her heart is growing so much more on this quest.

It's been awhile since I read the books but I remembered feeling very empathetic towards Hephaestus. His story is heartbreaking and even though he was vengeful, we know how abandoned he felt. He wasn't in episode as much as I'd like but they showed in him in a really beautiful light. I'm not gonna lie, I nearly teared up.

Annabeth's seniment towards the end of the episode is so real because it really only takes one person to inspire us to be better. But of course, we can't forget just how smart Grover really is. I love how they made his character a lot more observant and curious.

He isn't as nervous and anxious, instead he's very good at getting people to trust him. He's a very reliable character and I love how he's the glue that holds the trio together. I'm looking forward to the next episode after the cliff-hanger they left us on!

This is easily the best episode so far. Ares might be my favorite character introduced at this point he was perfectly cast and both hilarious and unsettling. The main 3 continue to become more comfortable with each other and the roles that they are playing. They all have real chemistry especially between Percy and Annabeth. The minor tweaks in the episode worked well and made thing easier to adapt to the screen. I personally have no issues with these changes seeing how they come directly from Rick Riordan himself and don't affect the story too harshly. This show just keeps getting better and I'm here for it and excited for what's to come.

Ares Killed It!!
e_daneva13 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers is an amazing episode. I've watched all of the 5 episodes of this series and they were all really good. Ares was obviously the best thing in this episode, and he truly kills it in this episode. Since episode 1 ( with an exception of episode 2 ), there has been a new monster or a new god ( or both ) in every episode , and Ares is the best so far. And before I thought Medusa was the best. Around when I Plunge to My Death ( S1 E4 ) was made, I was reading the title for the next Percy Jackson episode and it was called A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers. I remember reading the Percy Jackson book and remembering the Ares part, so I was excited for the Ares to come in the show. I obviously wasn't disappointed. I like how the actor for Ares played him. I think that the actor represented Ares very well. Ares is serious, he's kind of a hothead, and he wants to help Percy and his friends succeed. Well, maybe he doesn't because when he put Percy and others in the truck he grinned a sinister smile. Maybe he is evil. When Grover talks to him about following him and Athena, he first starts of as kind of a yes man. But then you realize that he's not just a yes man and he has his own feelings and own emotions. And the actor for Ares clearly represents it. I don't know his name but that actor looks very familiar to me. Anyway, I think the actor did a wonderful job as Ares. Just for him, I'm ranking up some extra points for this episode.

Another thing I want to talk about Percy and Annabeth's " excellent " " adventure". I mean, there adventure wasn't excellent because Percy almost died forever, but it wasn't bogus because Percy and Annabeth still got what they wanted. I think that this little ' adventure ' into the carnival is showing what the show could become. Yes, based on this, the show could become a romance show. Romance?!? This is Percy Jackson, and Percy Jackson shouldn't have anything to do with romance. I know that the show has been focusing on Annabeth more, and I like that, but it never crossed my mind that the were...together. Hopefully the show doesn't go through this path. In this I also saw how caring and heartful Annabeth is. At this point, I think that the whole show should be about Annabeth!! She got what she waned, but she still tried to save her friend ( and maybe but hopefully not crush ) until a god spectating helped Percy live. But let's not forget about Percy. In 2 episodes in a row ( S1 E4+5 ) Percy sacrificed himself for his friends. And I liked how the gods reward the characters for these actions because I personally think they should.

This episode had a little less action than a usual Percy Jackson episode, but it had much more heart than usual. Also this is probably the longest review I have ever written. In all, I give this episode a 8.6 out of 10.

Makes me excited for series
jbkast-0925410 January 2024
This series has been somewhat playing towards the wants of those who loved the book series and have been dissapointed by the past movie attempts till this point. Now with this episode it was able to achieve this on top of becoming a true premier television show. The addition of Ares the vein god was beautiful for the series as was continuing to place Percy and Annabeth in more and more harrowing positions iin which the have to become the heroes us seeries readers know they will become it was a truly refreshing episode to even me who has enjoyed this series. I hope beyond hope that the series continues in this manner,

THE BEST FOR NOW.
jonsnowaer10 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Until then I had a lot of doubts about the series, I didn't know if there could really be an episode that I could call great this season, because of the previous ones that were good or just acceptable, for various reasons regarding some action scenes, some dialogues or the script itself, and the clear timing. But this one is different, it's definitely the best in the series, the dialogues are great here, the scenes and the timing of each one are also great, the performances don't even speak to each other and you can see the progress in the development of each of the characters. My favorite scene is the conversation between Grover and Ares, the scene where Percy and Annabeth jump from the boat into the water and he saves her is extremely well done, from when they fall into the current until the moment of the shield, however, the only The thing I got that could be better is when Hephaestus appears and Annie convinces him in the easiest way possible to let Percy leave, I thought it was a bit too played that she explained it so easily with a few words, but still the best episode of the series in all aspects. I'm really looking forward to what's yet to come, I must emphasize how satisfying it is to see this rivalry between Percy and Ares being played out in this episode, knowing that it will result in one of the most memorable moments in history, the fight between both, it's incredible.

A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers
Prismark109 April 2024
Episode five has some edge and plenty of cheeseburgers.

Percy, Annabeth and Grover find themselves as fugitives on the run from the law after what happened on the train.

They are now walking to Los Angeles and evading the police. There quest in truth is at an end.

Unexpected help comes from a motorcyclist on the road. It is Ares, the war god. He might be rough around the edges but he offers them a way to get to Los Angeles.

All they have to do is retrieve something Ares left behind at a theme park. Grover will stay behind as collateral.

It is a spiky episode. Of course it is no ordinary theme park they go to retrieve Ares's shield. It also marks the introduction of Hephaestus, the God of skill and craftsmanship who created the park and has a beef with Ares.

Pacing is still erratic and I do think the series is uneven.

The Gods Don't Feel Dangerous
nargon11 January 2024
Honestly, I am enjoying this show immensely so far. The actors are going for broke, the style looks fantastic (finding out the production designer, Dan Hennah, was the same one who worked on Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy made me understand why I like the visual style so much), and I'm really liking the way the main character dynamics are shaping up. However, I do have one major gripe; non of the gods we've met so far feel dangerous.

The gods in the book are, well, immortal, super powerful beings that can vaporize you with a look if you cross them. They are to be feared, and if you don't fear them, you'd better be willing to face their wrath. So far in this series, we have gotten no glimpses of the power the Olympians posses, only threats and frowns. They don't give off the literal vibes they gave off in the books, and have yet to display anything supernatural about them at all. The characters don't show nearly enough fear towards them, and I don't blame them, they aren't scary.

While that definitely deflates the episode a bit, especially in the climax, the main focus is on continuing to develop Percy and Annabeth's relationship, and on this front I feel they hit it out of the park. The length is also an improvement from the last installment, but it was still too short for my liking. Could absolutely have used an extra five minutes to make the retrieval mission a little more interesting. As for the story change made to this chapter from the book, I don't necessarily dislike it, since it is meant to facilitate Annabeth's character arc just as the last episode was meant to jumpstart Percy's, though I do think the show could stand to embrace the silly antics and ridiculousness of the original a bit more. One mustn't lose sight of the fun while telling a serious story.

Still, a good episode. I'm hopeful the next one will be longer, and bring back a little of that crazy fun the books did so well.

THAT MOMENT WHEN ANNABETH SAID IT?! I LITERALLY STARTED RUNNING AROUND SCREAMING IN MY BEDROOM. 😁 In all seriousness though, I loved this episode so much-just because there was so much character development, especially with Annabeth. We got to see past her, cool, collected, indifferent shell, and see how much she cared about her friends.

AHeM- percabethhhhhhhhhh! We got so much Annabeth+Percy time this episode, which I really liked because it showed them slowly getting closer, and forming true friendship. I did notice how Grover wasn't in the whole Waterland scene, which deviated from the book, but it worked well, because we got some Grover character development too, showing that he's more then a peace keeper/anxious but goofy friend-he's actually really smart.

And over the past 5 episodes, I've noticed, that every.single.charecter in this show shines. Like even the side characters (Ares, Medusa, Sally, Luke) add so much life and passion when the act out that person, that it gives the show soooo much more depth.

5 episodes in and it just keeps getting better. Can't wait for the next one!! :)

Weird change to the god of war
charliedpcooke10 January 2024
I love edge don't get me wrong and he does really well in this. Buuuutttt he dosnt look anything like the god of war for one why's he not bald the god of war is also way more pale and his beard is to short. It's also a strange to change his name from kratos to Ares such a stupid chnage that wasn't necessary. There's no sight or mention of the blades of chaos or the Leviathan Axe but as we don't see the god of war in combat that's ok. I feel like it would of been nice for the show to stick to the actual Greek mythology instead of makeing it up but overall it's not a huge deal and ultimately if you don't know a lot about the Greek mythology it's not a bad watch .

Goofy writing, terrible acting, bad show
njverney10 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Since the main actors in this show are children, it's excusable that the acting in this show is downright awful.

It's so hard to even try to be immersed in the show when the acting is like two planks of wood trying to make idle conversation. Not only that, but the writing feels like it was constructed by half-baked AI. In this episode particularly, the dialogue between Ares and the kids is awful.

Adam Copeland isn't even that bad of an actor, but the writing and the dialogue is just a one two punch combo of confusing and cliched dialogue that knocks you off your feet.

Also, one of the most important marketing points (for the fans) of this show was that it was faithful to the books. At this stage, I'm still waiting for the important parts of the books (e.g. Annabeth being afraid of spiders, an integral part of her character, the Mist actually doing anything at all, and the setting up of Camp Half-Blood that was done, but all of which completely ignored in this show).

I was initially pretty excited about this show, but as with all things Disney, my expectations, hopes, and dreams have been crushed underfoot.

If I could give it negative stars, I would
ftm-2813510 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's like it's not even trying to stick to source material anymore. The same tired problems that ruined universes like DC in the DCEU. Except the writer of the actual book series is involved with this one. So many unnecessary changes. I don't even recognize the main three characters at all. Such a let down. Worst episode so far, and that's saying something.

Why no spiders? Why no broadcast to the okympians? Why not a single action sequence? Why was annabeth being snarky to ares and not Percy? So many stupid changes. Make the storyline seem stupid. Rick Riordan has passed his prime, and it's time we take his toys away before he ruins the things that made him famous.

Unwatchable
hpcmakeup10 January 2024
This episode and series is unbelievably annoying and irritating. Not one character is likeable. The way everyone talks soooo slowwww! Every show needs different speech patterns and tones but not this show everyone talks monotone then yells. Everyone is slow and boring and doesn't smile or laugh just sad slow talking. The sets and scenes all go on for way too long and somethings are figured out so quickly and others just drag on and on. Disney Plus needs some new show creators and actors and directors...the need to get back to fun shows with kids that are funny and charming is desperate. This show is sad and boring.

Wack episode. so wack that Ares somehow became the best part.
RetardedNConfused11 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The kids couldn't act if their lives depended but they fine enough on the melodramatic scenes they got here. Like really? You're gonna be a die a statue just bcoz you don't want to get caught by the NYPD? REALLY??

Also Hephaestus was pretty wack too. Like I liked his little intro in the tunnel but he was here just because. Like how does Annabeth figure out the booby trap at the entrance was a fakeout. She's not a daughter of hippy. Neither has she know how gears work so far in the show. The cherry on top was her just flicking the chair without actually trying anything. Like snitch that was made by a God who btw is RIGHT THERE.

Ruined the upward momentum the show had so far. Still better than the pilot.

Love the show so far but...
kapsley-1142710 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I love this show so far, much closer to the books than the movies but Ares in the book was HOT with all the capital letters no offence to the actor but he isn't that buff bad boy hot look that the book describes; in the book Ares also had that whole 'charming' kind of scary, think Negan from The Walking Dead charisma crossed with a bikers bad boy mystic, that's book Ares. Ares in the show? None of that, he's a guy that uses 'yelling' and 'threats' to be scary, he doesn't have the intense eyes or the threat with a smile thing that made book Ares such a great character, and what you'd expect the god of war to be.
