Walter discloses to Peter, Astrid and Etta that September had created a plan to defeat The Observers in the future, but he partitioned Walter's memory to protect the information from The Observers. They look for Olivia and find the possible location covered with amber but cut for the removal of the trapped people. Etta explains that there is a black- market where amber gypsies use to sell people encased in amber. They find that the buyer of Olivia is the librarian Edward Markham that has a crush on her. They head to his apartment to rescue Olivia, but the black market dealer warns The Observers about the group. They head to the building but Peter, Astrid and Etta flee with the encased Olivia in a van. But Walter is captured and taken to Captain Windmark for interrogation. What will happen to Walter?

"Transilience Thought Unifier Model-11" is the new saga of Olivia, Peter, Walter and Astrid, now in the world of 2036 with Peter and Olivia's daughter Etta. The show is totally refreshed and different from the previous four seasons. It is hard to guess whether it will be better or worse than the previous seasons, but the fact is that it is a New Fringe. This episode is full of action and entertains, but the charm of the previous seasons is missing. My vote is eight.

Stop gizmoism

OK... so here we are, in another totally new realm within the Fringe story. We had a glimpse of it in the previous season, to get us ready, so it is not all new. Still, it is rather confusing. It was a bit hard for me to find my feet even in a slightly moderated realm Peter was removed from. The conquest of our world by Observers is logical and well motivated. However, the story in this episode is a bit thin, and it relies upon gizmos which are there out of the blue. There was a cartoon created in my country when I was a kid, called Professor Balthazar, who, somewhat like Walter and William Bell, faced various human and world problems, then out of the blue invented some gizmo and solved it all http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWCttgEOwCI&noredirect=1. I still love Professor Baltazar, but this is supposed to be a grown up entertainment show, gizmos can't just fall from the skies and solve problems.

Walter is great when he shows his brilliant mind applying hard science to solve fringe issues, but without it he is just a confused old man. So I hope to see him back to his mighty self. Let's get this straight: Walter Bishop is the spirit of the Fringe story, he is the factor X no other TV series ever had. When he is at his best, The Fringe is amazingly original and mind-blowing. When he is out of order, the show is less interesting. So, get Walter refreshed and the show will excel again.

This Review Contains Spoilers ... but so does S05!

For the record, I have top-rated this show (one of my faves) and reviewed about a dozen individual episodes here on the IMDb.

Overall an extraordinary production that starts GREAT and just gets better and better.

I remember watching the "parallel earth" segment (with "Walternate," one of my favorite all time TV characters) and thinking to myself, wow, how can they top this? Which is the point of this review. They can't. And they don't.

In the history of TV, a lot of great series struggle with finding the best way to wrap up. Sometimes they nail it. And sometimes they don't.

This reviewer, who is also a fan, feels that the creative team might have gotten a bit carried away with the entire S05 arc and maybe, just maybe, forgot what made the show so great in the first place? Which was FUN. In the first four seasons, no matter how crazy the story was, you had a sense that the cast and the characters were having FUN. Which meant you the viewer were having FUN too.

In the shortened and final S05, the fun is gone, the joy is gone, and with it went a lot of the charm of the series. Even the catchy theme music no longer seems "appropriate' for the Trip Thru Hell that is Season 5.

If you are new to the series and want the complete experience, watch it all. If on the other hand you are willing to take some advice from an old-timer, I can tell you it is OK to stop at the end of S04 and you will have missed nothing.

"Whose Hand is That?"

I waited all summer for this exploration of what happened after S4E19.

Walter is suddenly of very sound mind - He has a little of his awkwardness, but is he like Walternate? Not really. This Walter is aware that he is walking around Sans Pants, and he is mostly coherent and brilliant.

Walter and The remaining Fringe team with Henry-Etta in tow follow a lead as to the whereabouts of Olivia and find an Ambered area-That had been scavenged by "Amber Gypsies." But searching the local underground "Amber Market" nets no Olivia-She had been sold. To who? Ironically the answer to that reaches back a few seasons and especially to the S4 "Batupine" episode. And he's using her as a Coffee Table!

As I had seen Walter being Tortured by Michael Kopsa in a preview, whose Character "Captain Windmark" sports the same character name as Kopsa played in a 2008 short also called "Fringe" - I knew this was coming. Windmark had very few redeeming values-actually none in S4E19 -"I Like Animals"-And he expresses no redeeming values here. Moreover, his torture of Walter has a very particular unpleasant result. But leave it to Walter to have ways to undo even those effects, as he listens to a song by YAZOO at the end.

The Game is afoot, and now I want to know why these bald guys came, why did they do this? And are they all bad-Or are there more like September who will help them? Speaking of September, where is he, and will he show up to help, now that he obviously has no "observer" rules preventing him from directly lending Walter and Peter and crew a hand?

I have no idea how this is going to go, this first installment gave me no clues. It just set the chessboard, and now the pieces are moving. How are Walter, Peter, Olivia and Astrid going to dispose of unwanted bald guys with no eyebrows from The Future?

It's true- season 5 is just not as "Fun" as the first 4 seasons. The reason of course being that there was no room for any extracurricular storytelling in a 13-episode season. The darkness of the story is no help, either. But the quality is all there, if watched from start to finish.

Magic is real

This is an excellent start of the last season but what really sells it is the last couple of minutes. An epic, magnificent, stunning performance with a brilliant song choice and symbolism up the yazoo. One of the best moments in the history of entertainment and so stunningly well-made I get tears in my eye just thinking of it.

Although this last season is perhaps the weakest, it also have some of the strongest and best most memorable moments of any show ever. The one I mention above is one, but also several others such as the bullet that saved the world or the wonderful loveable ending.

Fringe is one of the best TV shows of all time. If it wasn't for a few misses in season 3 and a couple of bad episodes in season 4 I would probably put this as #1.

This is a great start of the season and as with everything else Fringe a must see.

Spectacle with unbelievably good cinematography

This episode is the first of the last season of Fringe, but it nails it unlike any episodes before it.

Although we got to see a sneak peek in S4 E19, I felt like it was out of place there. As an entirely new season however, this hits it right on the nail.

This episode is completely differently paced than all the others before, which is very welcome after already 4 long seasons.

What completely surprised me though was the last scene of this episode. It is probably one of the best ever scenes of my entire time watching TV fiction, as the cinematography, song choice and context puts in on an entirely new level. This was so well done that I rewatched in several times after finishing this episode, just to capture all the meaning, details and glory this represents. I created an account on here just for this one episode.

This goes into the books as one of the strongest showings this show could possibly deliver with the excellent John Noble. And for me this is by far one of the best scenes ever shown on TV, especially coming from an American production.

The Gang's All Here

I thought for the first half of this episode that it was excessively talkie. The characters take long periods to explain things to each other. We didn't need five minutes of Olivia and Peter. But these Observers are so stone cold that they are utterly hateful. They have ESP-like powers. There is some damage inflicted and Walter is captured. Because his brain is partitioned the bad guy can't seem to break through. The scenes are so bleak and so believable. I thought that this must really be a high budget show. Sadly, Walter seems to have a plan to deal with these baldies, but after his interrogation, he seems void of imagination. The final scene with the CD in the taxi is priceless.
