Spyder Dobrofsky is probably not a name you would expect to see credited on Christmas-themed TV movies, but that’s exactly how Dobrofsky got started out, working on the scripts for such flicks as The Housewives of the North Pole and One Christmas Wish, as well as Mom’s Day Away. When he made his feature directorial debut, it was on a movie called Spiral, which was something you’d expect to see a Spyder credited with: a mystery thriller. Now Deadline has broken the news that Dobrofsky is working on a holiday horror movie called Down Below… and he has assembled a solid cast for the project. The legendary Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight) stars alongside Bai Ling (The Crow), Alexis Knapp (Pitch Perfect), and Doug Jones, who is best known for his creature (or heavily made up) performances in films like The Shape of Water, Hellboy, and Hocus Pocus.

With its list of new releases for July 2023, Prime Video is going to help you stay safe from the oppressive July sun.
Highlighting the Amazon Originals on the TV side this month are two heavy hitters. The first is The Horror of Dolores Roach on July 7. Based on a podcast of the same name, this series could best be described as a modern day Sweeney Todd? Why, you ask? Well you know why. Think about it. Then season 2 of Neil Gaiman adaptation Good Omens premieres on July 28. This season will follow angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tenant) as they seek to keep the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) away from both heaven and hell.
There aren’t any Amazon Original movies of note this month and that’s alright as the influx of library titles is more than enough. July 1 sees the arrival of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, No Country for Old Men,...

Disney’s live-action “Lilo & Stitch” movie is beginning to shape up with the casting of Zach Galifianakis.
Galifianakis takes on an undisclosed role in the new movie, which is planned for release on Disney+. Dean Fleischer Camp — whose “Marcel the Shell with Shoes On” is nominated for best animated feature at the upcoming 95th Academy Awards — is directing the adaptation, from a script by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright.
The live-action movie follows the hit 2002 animated family film, which grossed 273 million at the global box office. Written and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois, “Lilo & Stitch” centers on 6-year-old Lilo and her teenage sister Nani, who live in Hawaii and adopt an adorable — though sometimes a little destructive — blue extraterrestrial creature nicknamed Stitch. Yes, it’s a bit late for a flick based on a “beach book’ (usually a paperback you’d read while getting your tan near the water’s edge), so how about something more suited to Autumn, perhaps a movie based on a mystery one would read while enjoying a warm beverage next to a fireplace? Oh, I forgot to mention that this particular film is part of a literary series featuring a much-beloved sleuth. Now, we just had a visit from Hercule Poirot a few months ago, so his mustache is “in mothballs” for the moment. Anyway, this character is not known as a detective or a “consultant” (like the fellow at 221B Baker Str.). The title “hero” of this tale is an investigative reporter, or at least he was (he’s telling everyone that he’s “retired”). And he’s been absent from the screen for 33 years now.

Jon Hamm is set to make a new advertising pitch, one that will see him taking on the deadpan, stumble-bumming 1980s-era comedy mantle of Chevy Chase with a reboot of Fletch.
Miramax has announced its development of a new Fletch movie, which will see star Hamm co-produce with the studio. The film will be a reboot of the franchise launched by 1985 hit detective comedy Fletch and continued with 1989’s Fletch Lives, which starred Chevy Chase as Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher, an eccentric-but-tenacious L.A. Times reporter who gets scoops the dangerous way while donning an absurd variety of disguises. Like the 1985 hit, the reboot will be a loosely-comedic adaptation of author Gregory McDonald’s 1974-launched series of Fletch detective novels.
As Miramax CEO Bill Block expresses in a statement:
“Fletch’s duration over audiences — whether told on paper or the big screen — entertains all and we could not be more thrilled...

In order to promote health and safety guidelines in the wake of the novel coronavirus, Freeform is launching a multi-platform social distancing campaign called #StayTheFFHome, Variety has learned exclusively.
The goal of #StayTheFFHome is to encourage the Freeform audience to take state officials’ “safer at home” and “shelter in place” advisories seriously. To further entice young adults to hunker down wherever they dwell, Freeform has put together a special programming lineup to give them something to binge and will be running special PSAs on-air and across social media in which talent from the network’s shows talks about the importance of social distancing and flattening the curve. Additionally, Freeform will be branding billboards and other outdoor posters with the logo for the campaign.
“Freeform is a brand that is inherently built on taking a stand on issues our audience believes in — what is more important at a time like this than encouraging social distancing?...

Radiant Film International will handle foreign sales at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival; The Gersh Agency and UTA Independent will co-represent domestic sales.
“Unplugging” follows Dan and Jeanine Dewerson, who don’t really have that much spark in their relationship anymore. Their daughter only focuses on her iPad. Fact-based drama Richard Jewell is Clint Eastwood’s next news-story-inspired directorial effort.
Clint Eastwood may be pushing 90 years old (he turned 89 on May 31), but he’s still got plenty of creative fuel in his proverbial tank; a notion supported by his next directorial effort, Richard Jewell (formerly The Ballad of Richard Jewell), which will focus on the security guard wrongfully accused of attempting to bomb a town square near the 1996 Olympic Games.
Indeed, the onscreen legend and Oscar-winning director, Eastwood, occupied the director’s chair for the Disney/Fox fact-based drama. The film, based on an article of the same name from Vanity Fair, had Eastwood working off a script by Billy Ray, who worked on action-horror film Overlord, Tom Hanks-headlined Captain Phillips, film franchise launcher The Hunger Games and served as writer and credited creator of (now-canceled) Amazon series The Last Tycoon.

There are annual traditions that must be honored, and of them is Steven Soderbergh‘s yearly list of everything he watched and read. Once again, the filmmaker has delivered his rundown of everything that went past his eyeballs across the past twelve months, and as always, it will leave you feeling woefully underproductive.
2017 started on a curious note for Soderbergh, watching “Passengers” and that action comedy you forgot about already, “Keeping Up With The Joneses.” We’ll forgive those lapses and just assume he was hungover or possibly still drunk from the night before.

MaryAnn’s quick take… The cinematic equivalent of Trump and Brexit as awfulness brought upon ourselves. Incoherent and cheap-looking. There are no heroes, and everything is broken. I’m “biast” (pro): loved Wonder Woman, liked Man of Steel…

These are the times that try woman’s soul. Trump. Brexit. Harvey Weinstein. Al Franken. (Really? Damn.) Global warming. Syria. Everything is awful. Everything is broken. Blake Shelton is People’s Sexiest Man alive? Christ, someone make it stop.
So it’s actually rather brilliant of Warner Bros and DC to fully embrace the everything-is-shit zeitgeist with a movie that just throws up its hands and agrees that the world and those in charge of it are garbage. Justice League is almost a meta exegesis of reality in...

Gal Gadot has become synonymous with Wonder Woman, but it looks like the actress doesn't want to play the superhero forever. "It's not that all I want to do for the rest of my life is Wonder Woman," she told GQ. "Obviously no." In fact, Wonder Woman is just the beginning. Before becoming an actress, Gadot won the Miss Israel pageant in 2004, completed two years of service in the Israeli Defense Forces, and attended a year of law school. She then appeared in a number of films, including Fast and Furious 6, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Keeping Up With the Joneses. Now, she wants to grow her craft even more. A few years on from the end of “Mad Men,” and Jon Hamm hasn’t quite hit movie star stratosphere in the way that some predicted for him. He’s been associated with some hits — “The Town,” “Bridesmaids,” but his occasional vehicles like “Million Dollar Arm” or “Keeping Up With The Joneses” never quite set the world alight, and he’s often seemed more interested in doing fun cameos on TV comedies than pursuing A-list film status.

Game Of Thrones finally returns to HBO in July, but it’s not the only thing subscribers will be able to stream on the HBO Go and HBO Now services. All right, it’s definitely the most exciting thing out of the whole batch, but since this new season will only have seven episodes, you’re going to need other things to watch. In July, those other things could include season two of Insecure, season three of Ballers, the series premiere of Room 104, the Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine documentary The Defiant Ones, or an Andy Samberg double feature of the HBO original cycling comedy Tour De Pharmacy and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. Other theatrical premieres include Loving, Keeping Up With The Joneses, and Hacksaw Ridge.

It’s been reported that Gal Gadot made $300,000 for her role in Wonder Woman.
Of course, $300,000 is nothing to sneeze at, and this number comes without accounting for the bonus actors receive once their film passes a box office milestone — something Wonder Woman is sure to achieve. However, when you consider that Wonder Woman has already made $500 million and has just crossed its third week in theaters, less than half a million seems cheap.
