nothing special

Being sold as Latino exploitation I must agree in some parts, you know, the way the credits were done and the scratches on the reel but the flick itself was rather weak.

It's worth seeing if you want to see a Latino dressed in sexy gear and some dancing juggs in a bar but for the rest I didn't like it. It do had some moments that should have been funny and some that are typical exploitation but at the end even as it clocked in at 73 minutes I was happy that it was over. Maybe it's the way that after the credits they entered some funny sentences (clumsy DJ becomes hero) on screen that I thought, no no no don't do that. The story itself is written in 5 seconds and it shows because there's not that much going on. Sure there's action but when one fatty is being killed in a backyard you can see him look towards the crew, Am I doing well?

The flick itself has a great promotion and do pick up awards here and there but for me it was just a mediocre gangster flick.

I NEED MY OIL CHECKED REAL DEEP
nogodnomasters8 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The film opens up with Latinexplotation and all the feel of a 70's drive-in feature. The opening kill scene was great, but the film quickly quiets down. Machine Gun Woman (Fernanda Urrejola) is an expensive deadly paid assassin. She is the former girlfriend of an Argentine crime boss who has a price on her head, but only ends up getting his guys killed who go after her. When his club mild mannered DJ (Matías Oviedo) overhears the problem, the boss gives him 24 hours to get the head of Machine Gun Girl or else...we are going to come up with a weaker plot point.

The sound was dubbed, but the chapter names which popped up on the screen were still in Spanish. It had some violent scenes, but most of the actual violence was off scene, afterwards we see the results. The film had some swearing, one sex scene, and front loaded extras nudity. At 73 minutes, it seemed long.

Not trashy and juvenile enough. A grindhouse throwback Latinxploitation failure
Doraemon3454223 August 2022
This B movie from Chile is inspired by 1970's grindhouse films, basically it's a grindhouse throwback modern movie.

If you don't already know, grindhouse films are obscure, ugly looking low budget exploitation junks produced in the 1970's that features offensive violence and even female nudity.

Planet Terror/Death Proof aka Grindhouse (2007) pay tribute to the trashy thrills of grindhouse movies. A bunch of indie imitators then follow, the best of them is Hobo With A Shotgun.

So this movie begin when a deadly lady assassin known as the Machine Gun Woman murder a bunch of random targets, including a ridiculous Chinchinero assassin. This opening is silly and stylish, promising exploitation fun. Yet just after the opening credit end, it already starting to look dull.

The basic plot is about Santiago, a loser who overheard a bounty hit on the infamous lady assassin. After discovered by the mob boss who planned the hit, he offer himself to hunt down the Machine Gun Woman so his life will be spared. He soon only bring bigger trouble to himself.

This movie fail because it's not trashy and grindhouse-y enough with very little action scenes. Santiago is annoying and he's the main character instead of the lady assassin. Mostly it's boring scenes about Santiago driving around Chile questioning people about the assassin. The Machine Gun Woman don't get enough screen time and she barely machine gunning anyone. She ended being a damsel in distress instead with Santiago being a hero.

What I want is basically a revenge flick about the Machine Gun Woman slaughtering everyone. Give me that cheap violent thrill instead of a boring investigation plot.

The movie also feature GTA reference because Santiago is a video game nerd and the director trying to be cool I guess. Every scene when this hero drive around in his car searching for clue, a mission info appear like a task the player must complete.

Forget this one and just watch Planet Terror, Death Proof, Machete 1 & 2 and Hobo With The Shotgun if you haven't yet, for the authentic grindhouse thrills ( Or maybe ignore Death Proof because that movie sux ! ).

Short but not sweet
kosmasp24 November 2013
Most definitely fun, if you let it though. A sleaze-ball of a film if there is one. There has been a revival (at least at the festival circus) and this movie does ride that wave perfectly. A tough woman that is still very attractive. It might depend on your taste in women I guess and your other "likes", but I'm pretty sure quite a lot of people will feel a "strange" attraction to the main character here.

Just as our "hero" of the movie does. While the female lead might not convince entirely (I thought she looked like she didn't really felt the "moment" or her "character" from time to time), this will not be something that will leave you with a bad impression of the movie. The simple "story" if you want to call it that, is just the backbone for the mayhem and violence that follows. If you like that, you'll be in for a treat, if not don't bother watching.

It's basically a classic Russ Meyer movie (no spoilers here)
Gemma_Philips25 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Same style, same laugh out loud humour, same degree of nudity, but I would say this is more violent.

There are real belly ache laugh out loud moments and I found it very entertaining after the initial 20 minutes. Some elements at the start aggravated me at first until I got used to the style and there is plenty of style to be seen.

There are some very random "what the hell" which are real eyebrow raisers so be warned. The music is not really my thing but it added to the wackiness of the movie and the sense of fun it seems to convey.

THE MOVIE IS ABOUT: a player of computer games who accidentally becomes involved in a live version of Grand Theft Auto complete with missions and ways to make money on the way. The ultimate mission is the title of the movie "Bring Me The Head Of The Machine Gun Woman." Easier said than done. The guy who stumbles in to the game is given 24 hrs to successfully complete this mission. On the way he has to do other missions.

This is it in a nutshell. If you like Russ Meyer's Vixen movies you will love this as long as you don't mind subtitles or you have found a version dubbed in your language or you can speak Spanish.

I personally decided I like this movie 25 minutes after it started because of the way it makes me laugh so hard.

"..., boy, is she hot or what?"
classicsoncall17 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Oh man, I don't know why I do this to myself. Well, on second thought, yes I do. A title so outrageous as "Bring Me the Head of the Machine Gun Woman" just begs me to watch and see what it's all about. It was pretty obvious from the outset that the film was mimicking popular video games, with one of the main characters a game enthusiast. The title character herself, Machine Gun Woman (Fernanda Urrejola) was a weapon toting, leather clad sexy gal who got her kicks out of offing the mercenaries dispatched to kill her when she dumped gangster boss Che Longana (Jorge Alís), who put a price on her head. Some of the story's continuity got lost on this viewer, and it had nothing to do with the Spanish dialog or the English sub-titles. When La Mujer Metralleta brought a bag of something to exchange for a suitcase full of money by one of the outlaws, what was supposed to be in the bag? Without revealing that, the gunfight that broke out made no sense. And then, when DJ Santiago Fernández (Matías Oviedo) went to rescue her from the gunshot wound, what was his motivation to take his 'Weapon of Mass Destruction' tee-shirt off?? Other than to set up the sex scene later on, but that could have happened right then and there. All in all, this was a pretty pointless movie that got repetitious with each video game chapter like it was going to the next level until the final mission. But as usual, I come to appreciate a more well-rounded viewing experience no matter how dubious the end result turned out to be.

Lackluster Latino Action Comedy
zardoz-1330 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
An action comedy with a Peckinpah inspired title, Chilean writer & director Ernesto Diaz Espionoza's "Bring Me the Head of the Machine Gun Woman" qualified as half-baked hokum from fade-in to fade out. You know a movie is in trouble when the eponymous heroine spends more time off screen rather than on it. Our DJ protagonist, Santiago (Matías Oviedo), is a weenie who lives with his mom. He is seated on a toilet in a stall one day when he eavesdrops accidentally on a private conversation among some intimidating Argentine thugs. They are hatching a plot to kill the eponymous character. The hoodlums discover that Santiago has been listening to them, and the chief thug Che Longana gives him an ultimatum. He has 24 hours to learn the whereabouts of the Machine Gun woman and report back to him or die. Bumbling, stumbling, and fumbling everything miserably, our clueless hero doesn't stand a chance against these homicidal mobsters. When he approaches a gun store dealer about buying a gun, he doesn't have any preference about models and betrays his ignorance about firearms in general. Hilariously, the gun store dealer refuses to sell our lame-brained hero a genuine gun. Instead, he trusts Santiago just enough to sell him an obvious BB-pistol! Who would tote any gun if it didn't work adequately?

Meantime, the titular babe aka The Machine Gun Woman (Fernanda Urrejola) looks absolutely stunning. She is decked out in a provocative S & M black leather outfit that emphasizes her cleavage. She wears calf-length boots with spiked heels. Basically, she doesn't have a qualm about blasting away with her weaponry. Red blooded males will drool like babies prior to breast feeding over this wet dream pin-up in stiletto heels. It is a shame she doesn't mow down more bad guys in sight! She is an accurate shooter who never wastes bullets. Initially, she has little use for Santiago until later after she catches lead in a rodeo yard shootout. A thug catches her by surprise and shoots her in the leg. Our pusillanimous protagonist tries to fake Longana off with his BB pistol, but the villain sees right through this pathetic ruse. During the rodeo scene, Santiago slips up behind Longana (Jorge Alis), the ruffian who plugged the Machine Gun Woman, and fears for his life if Longana catches him sneaking up. Alas, afree our heroine has brandished one of her pistols, lead flies in a swarm. By a strange set of circumstances, she shoos the ill-fated Longana in the calf of his leg and he stumbles momentarily and blows his face off accidentally with his own weapon! The wounded Machine Gun Lady insists Santiago remove the bullet before she bleeds to death.

As action comedies go, "Bring Me The Head of the Machine Gun Woman" has all the characteristics of a bottom of the barrel B-movie. It's too bad Epinoza didn't give the eponymous heroine a bigger role in this otherwise lackluster saga, low body count saga. Slow-moving at times, this low-budget nonsense had a lot of potential but the comic angle undermines what might have been a better actioneer. Don't let the title fool you!

Promise
BandSAboutMovies15 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Bring Me the Head of the Machine Gun Woman shouts gangster Che Longan, which is overheard by video game player Santiago, who must promise to literally do so - bring the severed head of the near-unkillable female assassin La Mujer Metralleta to Che in 24 hours as proof that she's dead or be killed himself.

Directed by Ernesto Díaz Espinoza, who co-wrote the story with star Fernanda Urrejola, this movie takes its cues from films like - obviously - Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia - and video games like Grand Theft Auto down to the typeface.

I wasn't really a fan of Santiago and would just rather watch the outstanding Urrejola kill everything in her path. But hey - it's got more than enough action to make me happy.

Okay El Mariachi/Machete Wannabe
a_chinn7 May 2017
Okay low budget Chilean action film that wants to be "Machete" or "El Mariachi" but is nowhere as smart, inventive, or funny. The story follows a dopey video game playing DJ who is given 48 hours to find the titular hit-woman after running afoul a local mobster. The Grand Theft Auto inspired missions and titles are fun, but didn't really add much to the film. I thought this film was trying to be a grindhouse exploitation type of homage, but when it throws in these video game elements with various bosses and such, I wasn't sure if this was the filmmakers focus or if it was just trying to be crazy and outrageous, which would be fine, but the film really didn't seem all that crazy or out of control either. However, I will give the the filmmakers credit for keeping the film short, so it doesn't really overstay it's welcome. Overall it's okay, but don't go out of your way for this one.

Kind of a drag
Finfrosk8613 June 2015
Frightfest Glasgow again! (note: this movie I would never have seen, if it wasn't at a festival)

Okay, I know what this movie is trying to do. Problem is it does not succeed all that well.

I haven't seen many Spanish movies, and it being in a language I absolutely don't know didn't do it any favors I'm afraid. I have nothing against movies in foreign languages, but if they are, they damn well better be entertaining. Because if they are boring, it gets more boring when you don't know the language.

And this is a little boring. They have tried to make it Machete-ish - that kind of over-the-top-style, but it just didn't work for me.

It has a couple of cool scenes, some alright action, but not nearly enough or cool enough action. I was kind of relieved when it was over.
