Sex & Nudity

  • Some of the dialogue contains sexual material/innuendo (e.g., "Not like I'm hoping to get my face sandwiched between a girl's bare thighs," "Just leave me and Luna out of your sick fantasies, you creep," "Are you trying to get me to take my clothes off?" and "Can you, like . . . kind of slide it down into your cleavage . . .").
  • Alice wears an extremely revealing top (She actually appears to be topless except for a loose jacket and a long gold necklace hanging over her breasts).
  • The main character makes a number of sexual references throughout the game, but it is usually used for comedic effect, or to annoy the female characters.

Violence & Gore

  • As players solve environmental puzzles and interact with fellow captives, their decisions trigger various cut scenes, some of which include brief acts of violence: players' character getting strangled in first person (the screen blurs and fades to black); a woman attempting to stab herself with a scalpel.
  • As the game progresses, various sequences depict bloodstained rooms and/or blood-splattered bodies, including characters lying in large pools of blood in the aftermath of a mass suicide (implied through onscreen text).
  • Most of the confrontations in the game are verbal but a few escalate to fistfights.
  • In one story arc, one character kills him/herself with a scalpel. You find the body with the scalpel lodged in the chest and with a lot of blood.

Profanity

  • The English version has some occasional strong language. Dio seems to use the f-word the most out of all the characters.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Pharmaceutical drugs are a central part of the plot line, and references to other illicit substances occur during various scenes: "You must be really desperate to get high," "You must've done a lot of drugs to look like that at twenty-two," "Or was it just a hallucination, brought on by stress or maybe some strange drug they'd dosed me with while I was out?"

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • This is a puzzle-adventure game in which players follow characters attempting to escape from a mysterious warehouse.
  • The entire game makes you feel on-edge, especially since you never know if someone's going to betray you at some point.
  • Most of the 24 endings are unhappy, even if they are "good" endings.
  • The game's final moments are perhaps the darkest.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • One ending involves every character except one committing suicide, leading the character you're playing as to suddenly do it himself (for reasons that are explained in another path).
  • A virus causes those infected to commit suicide, which is depicted in a number of scenes.
  • It is revealed near the end that the game takes place decades after a nuclear holocaust.
