Larry Gaye brings just enough hilarity to not crash entirely.
quincytheodore11 June 2015
This is the story of highly self-absorbed flight attendant Larry Gaye, a name which is certainly designed for obvious word pun. Most of the comedies are crude uncomfortably sexual innuendo in shameless fashion, the vain larger than life persona doesn't really take off in this regard. The exhausting tired jokes aside, it does deliver several good moments with witty awareness and fourth wall breaking quips, the few nods to Airplane! are also nicely done.

There's not much plot to be had. Larry Gaye is made from bits of choppy drama and aviator humor, both of which present barely adequate material in sporadic manner. The way it presents its humor is relentless, so if one particular scene doesn't work, the excessive effort is wasted and the film can be tedious. Unfortunately, this involves repetitive sensual undertone and the Gaye jokes can be tiresome after a few jabs.

It is when its best when Larry self-deprecates himself in mainly clueless manner or the film mocks on its own silly plot with an ironic seriousness. The tongue in cheek approach works with the help of the diverse actors who are experienced in the genre. Several scenes at latter half fare better as it deal with relatable and light banters instead on forcing the flamboyant aspect too much.

There are a few good chuckles underneath the turbulence of painfully narcissistic jokes and nasty sexual innuendos for a light popcorn flick.

Nope

Too many popular names in this movie for it not to be funny. Disappointing. This is the type of movie you see in the beginning of actors careers, not after they become household names.

A gay womaniser in a terrible movie.
mstanton-588-8561667 June 2015
A contrite turd avoid at all cost. If someone gives you free tickets kill them and bury them under the porch and never speak of it again. Honestly there is nothing here to warrant this ever being produced, ever, it makes me plead for more Hollywood reboots...

But seeing as I have to spew out 10 lines of text to submit a review. The story is basicaly barney goes to camp adapted to a gay womanising flight attendant were nothing of value is added and all we learn is how gay the main character is, Henry Winkler stars in this and considering its been 40 years since he was relevant it should be a nice warning to stay the hell away.

Junk.

The entire movie I was on the edge of turning it off and walking away. I didn't, it had just enough to keep going 'another ten seconds' but by the end, wished I had.

Can't sit down now...

Cuz I laughed my buttocks off. This is just a funny, stupid movie. Wish there were more like this. Disengage your brain clutch, sit back, relax, and laugh. It's as if Airplane and the Three Stooges had a love child.

Be forewarned, this movie is horribly non-PC in places. If you're a professional victim, you may want to find something else to watch.

On a side note, this movie got SOME of the aviation technical details right. I'm an airline mechanic and was impressed they used Weber coffee makers. Other details were way off, but at least some bits were spot on.

I'm a flight attendant and I liked it
aunwin20028 August 2020
It loses a couple points as it's mildly insulting to cabin crew suggesting we're only there to serve food, however it was a funny movie and definitely worth a watch. It's slapstick kind of humour so yeah it's immature. If you liked naked gun this is similar.

If you've gone through puberty, or, if you're an adult who no longer lives at home, DON'T see this

So horrifyingly unfunny.

This is the 'book-end' to the film Paul Bart: Mall Cop, in that it supposedly takes a banal job, with an even more banal character, and 'makes it funny' by making the character have an overblown self-image, and put them in ridiculously dumb spots. Oh, yeah; lots of sex jokes, and more sex jokes.

This is the premise, in it's entirety; Larry Gaye ('har-har') is a male flight attendant - and, even though his name's 'Gaye', (never mind all the juvenile jokes about male flight attendants, and never mind the juvenile gay jokes) he isn't. Well, slap my knee, and sit me on a whoopee cushion!

The mind that thought a(nother) moronic tale about someone so bereft of anything close to a personality, and 'wrote this'

If you're under 12, then, it's right up your alley (that includes any male under 30, who still lives at home, and/or never went to/finished high school).

How this even got made, just blows my mind. The lead - Mark Feurstein - starred in some (supposedly) 'funny' show on that quality channel, USA (sigh), where he played a doctor in the Hamptons.

At this point, I'd like to say to any conspiracy-lover, or religious lunatic; you don't need to 'look' anywhere for signs of the apocalypse - the fact that this got made (and that even ONE person sat through it, and enjoyed it) tells you the world's doomed.

What has happened?!?

I was growing up, there were all these great sophisticated comedies, and, looking back at the films before me, of the 70's, 60's, 50's, 40's, 30's, and even the silents before them, there was so much to enjoy.

But, now, if you're not some pre-pubescent, adenoidal kid, or a physically mature, but mentally backwards adult, then, Hollywood has REALLY gone to hell.

Instead of sitting through this, and this kind of garbage appeals to you, well, aside from needing to grow up, and get a brain, you need a LOT of help.

I'm not a 'snob', but, I DON'T like being insulted.

If it's going to be low-brow humour, then, make me laugh. Sex jokes - like the ones told in 5th grade - don't make one laugh when you're a mature (means you've grown up, and moved out on your own) adult. That doesn't mean it can't be funny, but, garbage like this has so little creativity, that it's like what a song would sound like, if the musician only knew how to play one note. Bor-ring

This is just appalling, on every level.

The people involved in this travesty - either in front of, or behind the camera, should NEVER - EVER - be allowed NEAR any media equipment.

Some really hilarious moments!
sevenseas14 May 2023
This movie is stupid and the main character is really stupid but oh my gosh there is some really funny stuff in this movie!!

The stupid idiot scenes were worth it for some of the truly hilarious moments.

Patrick Warburton is funny as usual.

There were some great cameos in this movie.

If you're a fan of the movie airplane, there's one really great seeing that I'm not going to spoil.

I was a flight attendant for a few years and that made this film more enjoyable for me.

.

Adding some characters to fill the required character limit which is so stupid on here so that I can finish up my review lol.

Funny late night comedy
chrismgallagher18 October 2022
This is a great movie to watch if you're not sober. Somewhat reminiscent of early 2000s comedies and Mark Feuerstein shows a his comedic abilities despite mostly not being a comedy actor. I found this movie to be hilarious. Was the plot great? No, it was silly, but in a good way. Here's the best way to put it: if you are the type of person who wants to sit down and watch some serious movie like The Departed or The Martian, you'll hate this, but if you want to sit down and watch something that's the best kind of stupid humor that we all at least somewhat enjoy, you'll enjoy watching this movie. Not all of the jokes are tasteful, but this isn't supposed to be some serious film looking for an Oscar, it was made to be funny and that's exactly what it is, a funny movie that you don't have to pay full attention to to enjoy. Totally worth watching if you want to watch something just to laugh. It's the definition of a late night comedy.

A solid comedy
srdjan_veljkovic27 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
There are but a few laugh-out-loud moments, but, there are several good jokes and many OK ones. It's fun most of the time. Sure, most of the fun and jokes is juvenile and based on people being dumb or simply acting dumb. But, still, it works.

I don't get the comparison to Airplane! - sure, Julie Hagerty has a cameo and the finale is on a plane that is on a crash course, but, it's not to make a connection, it's just another gag. This is not meant to be a remake or a sequel. Yes, it's not as good as Airplane! - but, that's kind of an unfair comparison, that was a great comedy.

Acting is pretty decent, Rebecca Romijn has the best role in years as the robot stewardess (it's small, but, it's a great match for her past-her-prime looks and acting skill-set).

So, if you're just up for some fun and jokes, this is worth a watch. If you're looking for something at the level of Airplane! - keep looking.

The Michael Jackson impersonator near the end of the movie. That's the only reason I gave it a 10.
