- A series of misunderstandings causes Lee Shin, the cocky leader of "The Stupid" and Lee Gyu-won, a student majoring in Traditional Korean Music to start on the wrong foot. Until she sees him performing live, and is immediately captivated.
- Lee Sin is popular in his high school for his band "The Stupid", and his female schoolmate Lee Gyo Won is devoted to traditional Korean music. Lee Sin's father, Lee Hyun Soo, was a popular guitarist in his time but is now on the verge of death because of drug addiction, which also caused his separation from Song Ji Yeong, Lee Sin's mother, long ago. Lee Gyo Won's grandfather, Lee Dong-jin, is one of the top three traditional musicians of his age, and his biggest wish is to see his granddaughter become a traditional-music prodigy. He's strictly against modern music, which he believes misleads the tradition. The high school comes up with "The 100th Year Anniversary" where students get the opportunity to show their skills. Can Lee Sin prove his skill in modern music like his father did? And will Lee Gyo Won be able to keep up her grandfather's expectations? Or is something else waiting for her?
- Lee Shin (Jung Yong Hwa, of the rock band CN Blue) is lead vocalist and guitarist for a rock band. Lee Gyu Won (Park Shin Hye) is a traditional gayageum (Korean zither-like instrument with 12 strings) player and a progeny of Korean traditional music. Their worlds collide at a performing arts college, where he is majoring in Western Music and she in Korean Traditional Music. Shin, a moody and aloof city boy, is initially smitten with dance professor Jung Yoon Soo (So Yi Hyun), but that quickly changes when he meets the feisty Gyu Won, who can be said to be Korean folk music royalty. Both Shin and Gyu Won care about their respective musical styles at the exclusion of all else in their lives, but can the two divergent passions be reconciled?
- Lee Shin is a university student majoring in modern music. He is the vocalist of the band "The Stupid" and also plays the guitar. He is known for his good looks and his strong passion for music but is in reality a cold person who is uninterested in non-music related things and has no dreams nor plans for the future. Shin initially likes a dance professor at his university, but this all changes when he meets Lee Kyu Won. Lee Kyu Won is a bright and outgoing student who was born into a prestigious family and is majoring in traditional Korean instruments, especially the gayageum. Kyu Won's grandfather, Lee Dong Gun, is one of the top 3 traditional musicians of his age, and his biggest wish is to have his granddaughter trained to become a traditional music prodigy in 10 years' time. Trying to live up to her grandfather's expectations, Kyu Won immerses herself in training and becomes a university student who knows nothing besides traditional music. As Kyu Won's friends are fans of "The Stupid", she was forced to go to the band's concert with them. There, she saw Lee Shin performing live and is immediately captivated by him.
