Not Bad
roocadillac8531 January 2014
I recently saw some media related to the show a few hours ago. Yes, the characters are cute which is common for a show directed to children. However, I have other thoughts as well. Just like the original books, Peter has his trademarked blue jacket and brown fur. But unlike the books, this version of Peter lacks shoes. In other adaptations, the rabbit is seen wearing mary janes or sneakers. I can only wonder why he's barefoot here. Anyway, everything else about the show (such as the stories and setting) is fine if not excellent. Eversince making a debut many decades ago, Beatrix Potter's most famous character has appeared in various media adaptations.

What's With The Shoeless Peter?
ramon-rodriguez3111 August 2015
I've been knowing Peter Rabbit for 19 years. However, my interest in the character regained only a few years earlier. When I learned that Nick Jr. has a series featuring Peter and other characters from Beatrix Potter's books, I went on the web to know more. But when I saw an ad of the series online, I was a bit surprised that Peter is missing shoes. Why is Peter missing shoes? Could this indicate that whoever made the series read Potter's books in such a fast pace and didn't look at the illustrations hard enough. If I was the one supervising the creation of the series, I'd make sure Peter will have some dainty footwear. Peter wears shoes in the original books as well as in other adaptations that are more faithful. Portrayiing a character wearing something shouldn't be too difficult. Anyway, despite the discrepancy, I do enjoy the show a bit. I just can't say that I'm impressed.

Adults are taking this too seriously!!!
beanbaguk28 April 2018
I love Peter Rabbit. When I was a child, my parents read it to me and it captivated me. However when I read these reviews, it's clearly from adults who take life far too seriously!

My 1 year old son is entranced by this series and has the biggest smile when he hears the theme tune.

The stories are fun, educational and above all, young children love them - including my 1 year old son.

If adults don't like it, they should probably watch TV for their age and grow up a little.

Where are the shoes? Are the animators blind?
rarecorruptedconky20 October 2017
Looking back at the original illustrations by Beatrix Potter, you'll notice that Peter not only wears a jacket but also a pair of shoes. After Potter's book became such a hit, various versions of the tale where made. Some very faithful to the original, and some not so much. While the creators of this show did a good job in giving the rabbit his iconic blue jacket, I was disappointed that they (probably) forgot to give him shoes. Where are the shoes? This obscene flaw is something that has been done in a number of renditions of the tale. I suppose those who made those renditions have bad eyesight, and didn't notice Peter has shoes in the original story. It also doesn't get any better in this generation as Sony will release a feature film depicting Peter Rabbit but also following a similarly obscene direction.

Adults should be ashamed on here with there reviews
parksta1 September 2018
Just because it's not the original when you was a kid doesn't mean you should call it a disgrace and it's not original Peter rabbit. This is aimed at kids and my daughter starts to smile when it comes on and loves watching it. Absolute shame this programme has stopped making more episodes.

I can't stand these barefoot Peters
dragbehindskunkfu3 October 2018
Don't get me wrong, I adore the character Peter Rabbit. However, I can't understand why adaptations like to depict Peter being barefoot when he wears shoes in the original story. Whatever the reason these adaptations (including the theatrical film) makes Peter this way, I think it's absurd.

if your a bunny lover, then you'll love this An adorable cartoon.
meltingface753 May 2013
don't be fooled. just because it's on Nick Jr, the absolute worst channel on TV right now, with Mind idiocy such as "Dora, Go Diego Go, and Bubble Guppies" But the new 2013 animated debut of "Peter Rabbit" is GREAT. sure, the humor in the show is meant for younger audiences, but it's a little complex with the script sometimes. anyway, it's a very enjoyable show that a lot of people should check out. But, I recommend buying the episodes on iTunes. imagine the embarrassment you'll receive if you watch this straight from the Nick JR. channel. The show is really nicely animated, and the main characters (Benjamin, Peter, and Lily) are the most adorable animated bunnies I have ever seen. just go into watching it with a open mind. and no, it's not one of those abominations of cartoons where they TALK to the audience, or they play "GAMES". this one is none of that. sadly, my little brother watching "Peter Rabbit' doesn't like it, and prefers the other garbage. oh well. more for me.

Low quality for the BBC
romtom50125 May 2021
I have two issues with this. Firstly, generally speaking the show seems to glamourise thievery, vandalism and antisocial behaviour. We are supposed to cheer Peter and chums for stealing and harassing the older members of his community.

Secondly I'm irritated at the low quality of the animation. On first look it seems good almost photorealistic but the more you look at it the more you realise the textures are two-dimensional, low resolution and the movement of the characters is often disconnected from the scenery. It is like a cut scene from a video game from 20 years ago. Considering this is the BBC I would expect a more polished product.

On the whole, not good.

A disgrace
amisha_amisha30 July 2013
As a lover of the traditional Peter Rabbit tales (books) by Beatrix Potter, I find this adaptation an absolute insult to Potters' wonderful tales of bravery, morality, kindness and change.

It is one thing to take a much-loved literary work and transpose it into television, and it is completely another thing to take a work and change its message, tone and intended coda. Unfortunately, "Peter Rabbit" falls into this latter category.

Sure the animation is quite cool, the colours are bright and the characters are appealing to children, but they will not learn the true messages and feelings that Ms Potter initially conveyed in her original, beautifully illustrated, and fantastic works. Why not just create an original cartoon about animals, instead of ripping off parts of Potters' tales, reworking them and making them clumsy. The producers of this series should be ashamed of themselves.

If you want to watch a beautiful version of Peter Rabbit, skip this atrocious series and watch an original - "The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends (TV series 1992-).

Fantastic kids TV, ignore the bad reviews.
daniel-benjamin-smith22 January 2020
Brilliant show, my son loves it!

I can't understand the reviews of this show. Kids don't care if Peter Rabbit doesn't wear shoes! Utterly ridiculous. They need to grow up!

Rabid
mrudinec10 April 2020
A rabbit that gets away with absolutely anything. Often puts his friends and his baby sister in life threatening situations, without any co sequences whatsoever. Everything about this is horrible. The song (yes, singular), the visual style... it looks like late 90s video games. All the characters are annoying and they keep screaming all the time.

Wonderful, entertaining, beautiful
boyanayankulova29 April 2020
I really hope they bring this cartoon back. One of the best ones made in recent years. My son loves it and so so I. I totally disagree with the negative reviews. I don't think it doesn't do justice to the books, quite the opposite. Everything about it is wonderful, the music, the stories, the animation, the lessons.

Weak and tedious
morgrp-556-4538549 July 2021
I'd describe this cartoon as a bit lame. The premise is the same tedious plot in each episode with the "heroic" yet mischievous Peter carrying out some sort of vegetable heist with his dim-witted companion Benjamin and the resourceful Lily using his dead fathers "journal" he left him full of plans and ideas. A selection of hopeless "baddies" try and stop them and well, eat them along the way. Naturally they never do succeed and the irritating trio never fail to achieve their effective theft. That said, my son seems to like it and that's all that matters really right?

A good distraction, my daughter loves it
Reading the reviews and the number of people that mention shoes. What about the fact they created a whole new character?!?

It's a good little series with energy and some very annoying songs and sayings that will likely haunt me long after my little one has grown up.

Repetitive and tedious
mrnickheath9 February 2022
A truly awful cartoon. A repetitive premise, low budget animation and the voice cast is so bad. Lovely non-descript accents to stay safe and inoffensive , perfectly pronounced, with zero personality or inflection. The music isn't even worth talking about. There must be something about this particular character that translates atrocities to the screen (the films are equally bad but get a star up for Domnhall Gleesons impeccable English accent).

Terrible
MathematicalMatthewx22 January 2023
I understand a lot of people have nostalgic feelings about Peter Rabbit and I think the books are great, if you're under 7 or over a century old and think that children's stories have no business becoming more relevant to the lived reality of children while also teaching about modern day values.

This show however is an insult even to those people. To start with the animation is abysmal, you wouldn't pass your mid term assignment if you handed something like that in at your college. The textures are flat and the movements are repetitive, awkwardly slow and simple.

The theme song is just as bad an indistinct tune with nonsensical lyrics. The voice acting is plain and the screeching is unnecessary.

But if you think it's bag enough that they didn't make the effort to produce anything vaguely pleasing, wait until you wrap your head around the offensive storylines. Not only is Peter Rabbit a thug who terrorises the community of largely elderly or physically and/or mentally disabled woodland folk, endangers his friends and siblings and never faces any consequences for his actions. Even if you accept the premise the stories make absolutely no effort at being suspenseful or coherent for that matter.

If all you want us some coloured dots and shrieky noises to keep your kids occupied you can do so so so much better almost everywhere else.

My kid loves this
dd-osman9 July 2020
My kid loves this show and I watch with her - always weary of what is slipped in to kids shows.. must say I haven't seen anything concerning. It's a very wholesome, agenda free, fun little show. I do feel a bit sorry for mr McGregor though! The man works hard all day to have his veg stolen by the wee rabbits!
