I came in to this short not knowing what I was getting because I don't bother reading the marketing blurb / review on the Short Of The Week that comes with the film until after I watched it because !!! these blurbs sometimes give away plot turns so be very careful on that site !!! . As it began I found out it revolved around ad hoc interviews with joggers . Hmmm cinema verite documentary cinema featuring a cross section of diverse people . We can all name a similar documentary we've seen such as Matt Johnson's FROM DUSK TILL DAWN all basically the same idea
To be blunt this documentary by Matan Rochilitz and Ivo Gormley doesn't bring anything new to the table but does what does very well . Normally when I see someone jogging on television it's usually one of these government funded public adverts along the lines of " If you go jogging you'll live longer and if you don't get fat you'll live longer and if you don't smoke you won't get cancer . Be a health Nazi like me and you'll make normal people welcome death in all its diverse forms etc etc " . It's obviously filmed over a long period of time since tellingly there's snow on the ground in some scenes and bright Summer sun in other so there's a hint that these random interviews aren't as spontaneous as they might first appear and there might be an element the interviewees have gained the trust of the film makers , after all you don't discuss sex with absolute strangers . There does also seem to be a rhythm and a pace to things and as the documentary continues as the subjects become more profound and life affirming as the music comes on in the background . You're aware the music is playing but never intrudes and as a subject states " It doesn't matter if you're a road sweeper or head of Barclays bank always be passionate in what you do " and as end credits come up you'll probably be in a better mood that what you were before the documentary started
