Before Simon (Théodore Pellerin) struts out on stage every night in his drag regalia, he prepares backstage by lip-syncing to Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman.” His persona, Glory Gore, isn’t fully formed at this point — she’s only been half-painted into existence — but when Chaka belts out the lyrics to her signature anthem, something physically shifts within Simon as he begins to inhabit the words and the woman inside him alike. Although the other drag queens roll their eyes and tease Simon for always playing the same song each night, it’s not long before everyone joins him for a communal singalong that speaks to the uniquely queer connection these queens have bonded through.
Yet “Solo” isn’t so much about belonging as it is the desperate need to belong, and it’s this pain that Simon is forced to work through when his life twists into...

French Canadian director Sophie Dupuis’ third feature, “Solo,” saunters past the usual questions of queer identity and acceptance we often see onscreen.
Instead, her film starring 26-year-old muse Théodore Pellerin dances headlong into the suffocating effects of toxic love, via an art form that’s all about liberation: drag.
The Toronto Film Festival premiere opens with a gorgeous, sinewy rising star of the Montreal drag scene (Pellerin) twirling across the stage to Abba’s “Voulez-Vous,” while the screen goes from black to neon shades of purple. As the scene bleeds into a montage of Simon, now out of drag and dancing under the club lights, the world of “Solo” widens to his fellow queens, his sister Maude (Alice Moreault), and a newbie performer who catches his eye, Oliver (Félix Maritaud). And, for a brief moment, it appears that the carefree Simon is destined to have it all: a passionate romance with the recent French arrival,...

It’s not always easy to find out which movies hit theaters each week, especially after the Hollywood strikes led to many release date changes. With the WGA and actors strikes resolved and summer blockbusters starting to roll in, May is filled with both big budget flicks and new indie releases.
Premiering May 24 is George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” which tells the origin story of the wasteland warrior princess before her run-in with Mad Max starring Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke and Alyla Browne. Also hitting theaters is family film “The Garfield Movie” and Richard Linklater’s “Hit Man,” which follows a straight-edge professor who discovers his calling as a fake assassin starring Glen Powell, Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio and Molly Bernard. In a big deal that closed in the days leading into this week’s Cannes market, Apple Original Films has landed worldwide rights to Tenzing, the new package we told you about last week starring Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe.
The question we asked today was whether the U.S. buyers would come to play for the Cannes market projects and we have an answer already.
Oscar-winning producer See-Saw Films (The King’s Speech) is producing Tenzing, about the inspirational life of Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and his summit of Mount Everest in 1953 alongside fellow outsider New Zealander Edmund Hillary.
A search is underway to cast the lead role of Tenzing Norgay who will star alongside BAFTA-nominated Tom Hiddleston (Loki) as Sir Edmund Hillary and four-time Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe (Poor Things) as the English expedition leader, Colonel John Hunt.

Who has not felt the sting of a missed opportunity, especially when you have come so close to your big break? For O’Shea Jackson Jr., the brush with a galaxy far, far away was definitely a bitter pill to swallow—one that the fandom of both Star Wars and the actor can empathize with.
Rising to fame as an actor in F. Gary Gray’s 2015 biopic film, Straight Outta Compton, Jackson Jr.’s talent has been evident. Earlier this year, moreover, his candidness about the disappointment of losing a coveted role in Ron Howard’s 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story to Donald Glover was as relatable as it was commendable.

Opening up about the intense audition process, Jackson Jr. reflected on his confidence after multiple auditions for the role of Lando Calrissian, only to experience a letdown when Glover was cast.

The announcement of Solo Leveling season 1 was a viral news piece. Fans waited almost a year for the anime to arrive. Since Studio A1 Pictures, whose previous productions include Fairy Tail, Sword Art Online, and Mashle, had taken over the series, the hype doubled in size pretty soon.
Alas, season 1 of Solo Leveling received mixed reviews from its audience. While it had some plus points, like the mind-blowing fight scenes, it also suffered from pacing issues and changes from the source material.
So when anime’s producer, Sota Furuhashi, hinted at an attempt to rectify the mistakes of the past, you bet fans saw it as a complete win.

In an interview with Aniplex’s After Hours program on May 10, 2024, which was hosted by Sally Amaki, Solo Levling producer Sota Furuhashi shared hints regarding the exciting developments that’s in store for the upcoming season 2 of the anime.
Solo Levling season 1 focused on the main character’s journey of growth and self-discovery, and Furuhashi acknowledged that this will continue in the second season as well. However, he hinted at a broader narrative scope.
This will include shining a spotlight on the supporting characters of the series, suggesting that fans can expect more backstory and development for those who have been supporting the protagonist on his journey.
Furuhashi also went on to say that this focus on side characters will give viewers a more 360-degree look at the world of Solo Leveling.

New research conducted by ticket marketplace viagogo suggests that a nearly two in five British concert-goers are planning on attending shows or festivals alone this summer. The study also revealed the most common reasons why Brits are hesitant to ride solo to events.
The survey commissioned by viagogo asked 2,000 Brits about their attitude when it came to the prospect of attending an event solo. About 62% of respondents said they had never been to a gig alone before, and about 77% said they felt nervous about doing so. On the other hand, 39% of folks said that they were indeed planning on hitting an event on their own in the near future. According to the study, 39% of concert-goers want to do so to achieve a greater sense of freedom, 27% want more ‘control over the acts they see at festivals,’ and 23% hope to use the opportunity to make new connections.

A voice actor’s job can be pretty tough. This was proved to us by Aleks Le, the voice actor for Sung Jinwoo from Solo Leveling and Zenitsu from Demon Slayer. A few days ago, he shared a video where he revealed that the role of Sung Jinwoo put so much strain on his voice that he coughed up blood while voicing a fight scene.
Sung Jinwoo (Credit: Crunchyroll)
Although the character of Sung Jinwoo is normally calm and logical, he sometimes gets enraged and violent while fighting strong enemies or opponents during his dungeon battles. This leads to him screaming and shouting, thus indirectly affecting the voice actor. However, that is not the case for all characters.
As mentioned before, Le also portrays the role of Zenitsu Agatsuma in Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer. During an interview last year, the voice actor shared his experience working for one of...

Star Wars’ most legendary Wookiee, Chewbacca, is many things – a loyal friend, a stellar co-pilot, a great shot, and a guilty devourer of Porgs, among others. But he’s not exactly Jedi material. His impulsiveness and propensity for guttural growls are two of the reasons he’s so beloved by fans – even though those traits are hardly the Jedi way. But in The Acolyte, for the first time in live-action, Star Wars will bring us a lightsaber-wielding Wookiee Jedi in full flow. Meet Kelnacca, an all-new walking carpet, and “another Star Wars dream come true” for actor Joonas Suotamo – the man who picked up the Chewie baton from Peter Mayhew on the sequel trilogy and Solo.
“Ever since [I was] five years old, I've been fantasising about being a Jedi, like every kid,” Suotamo tells Empire. “When the word ‘Jedi’ was first mentioned [in talks for The Acolyte], I felt really excited – like a little kid who...

This post contains minor spoilers for "Solo: A Star Wars Story."
Every "Star Wars" fan knows about Han Solo's not-so-humble boast about the Millenium Falcon, a ship that purportedly "made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs." Although this sounds cool, it is a rather vague descriptor that is challenging to visualize. After all, a parsec is a unit of distance, not time, where one parsec is roughly equivalent to 3.26 light years. Even without diving into the scientific nuances of the concept, it is understandable why Solo's claims became a topic for debate and discussion, giving rise to fascinating theories over the years. However, "Solo: A Star Wars Story" effectively answers all our questions about the Kessen Run discourse by approaching Han's boast in ways that are interesting and grounded in practicality.
For quick context, Han (Alden Ehrenreich) and co. need to evade an Imperial blockade in "Solo" and...

The Solo Leveling anime has become a great hit. The original manhwa was already very popular because of its wonderful story and impressive drawing style, especially for action parts. These elements have been given life in the most amazing and visually stunning way by the direction of the anime.
Sota Furuhashi, the producer of Solo Leveling, and Shunsuke Nakashige, the director, discussed the modifications that were necessary to transform the well-known manhwa into a highly popular anime series during a talk.
Why Were The Original Funny Expressions Removed From The Solo Leveling Anime?
During the discussion with Animate Times, Shunsuke Nakashige stated,
“I thought this work required the high-end visuals that are trending these days. Therefore, I tried to avoid cartoon-like expressions as much as possible, using compositions, colors, and shooting processing similar to live-action footage. However, this would inevitably take up too much time and energy, and the images themselves would become too heavy.

Power creep in anime is almost a necessity when it comes to the shonen genre and Solo Leveling is no stranger to that. From Dragon Ball to Bleach and even Naruto; power, skill, and technique become the main requirements of any protagonist. Sung Jinwoo’s journey goes from being the weakest hunter known to mankind to the strongest hunter, capable enough to stand against the Rulers and the Monarchs.

The first season of the most anticipated anime series of 2024, Solo Leveling has finally ended. The series lived up to the expectations of Manhwa fans and delivered a great adaptation of Chugong’s masterpiece. And much to the surprise of fans, as soon as the series released its final episode, it announced the second season was already in production.
Solo Leveling Season 2
While the anime series adapted the manhwa to the core, there was one aspect of the series that the anime neglected. It was the comedy scenes from the series that added a humorous side to Solo Leveling and made it more entertaining for fans. Additionally, it toned down the dark fantasy element of the series.
Solo Leveling anime removing the comedic element resulted in a lot of fans questioning the authenticity of the anime and wondering to what extent the creators of the anime modified the original storyline.

Remember "Solo: A Star Wars Story"? Sure you do! It was the second "Star Wars" anthology film — that is, a film set outside the main "Star Wars" Skywalker Saga timeline — following "Rogue One," and its less-than-great reception essentially killed off the idea of Disney doing new anthology films. Instead, the studio stuck with finishing out the Skywalker Saga in a disappointing fashion and then shifted to a bevy of Disney+ shows (some of which are soon to make the jump from the small to the big screen).
Directed by Ron Howard, "Solo" tells us how Han Solo became Han Solo, which was apparently a concept audiences weren't particularly interested in at the time, since the flick ended up being the first box office bomb in "Star Wars" history. All that said, I think "Solo" is better than its reputation suggests. It's not a great movie, but it's not an abomination,...

Solo Leveling episode 12 aired on March 30, 2024. Sung Jinwoo’s journey from the weakest hunter of all to become the strongest of all has just started. After the horrific incidents at the Cartenon Temple, unbeknownst to him, Sung Jinwoo has been chosen to succeed in the position of the Shadow Monarch. Episode 12 marked the end of season one and left behind several important points.
Solo Leveling episode 12 saw Sung Jinwoo take on his strongest foe yet, Igris. There was a lot of hype and expectations surrounding the fight. Thankfully, it was more than the fans expected, and season one ended on a pretty good note. Apart from the fight, Sung Jinwoo finally took up his role as the Shadow Monarch. At first, the abilities may seem confusing, but after a while, it becomes pretty understandable.

The most anticipated anime series of 2024, Solo Leveling has finally concluded its first season with the final episode “Arise”. The episode was one of the best ones of the series and featured a perfect ending for the series. It gives Sung Jinwoo, the protagonist of the series, a new power which will make him even stronger than he already is.
Solo Leveling
The power and title that Sung Jinwoo earns in the final episode is the monarch of Shadows. While the Solo Leveling anime fans might not know much about the power, the manhwa fans are truly aware of the real strength and ability of this title. It is going to be one of the most important elements of Solo Leveling in the future.
However, Sung Jinwoo is not the first user of the power. This power was first wielded by Ashborn, who was known as the King of the Dead.

Psych rockers Pond are back to announce their 10th album, Stung!, arriving on June 21st via Spinning Top Records.
Stung! may be Pond’s 10th album since their ramshackle 2009 debut Psychedelic Mango, but it is their first double album. Comprised of 14 tracks, the Australian band names Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk and Prince’s Sign o’ the Times as influences on Stung!, and the album promises Pond at their most unfettered and expansive. For the next offering from Stung!, the band have shared the album’s title track, “(I’m) Stung.” With sunny acoustic guitar strums and an impassioned performance from frontman Nick Allbrook, “(I’m) Stung” is warm and whimsical. Allbrook narrates the consuming feeling of having a crush on someone...

Solo Leveling is one of the greatest examples of peak fiction. The manhwa became massively popular, and the fans begged the creators to opt for an anime adaptation. They got their wish fulfilled when it was finally announced. But it was a long process, and on January 6, 2024, the anime aired its first episode. The online streaming sites crashed, and the anime reached new heights of popularity.
Initially, everyone loved the anime, but as time passed, people got to see the problem with the anime adaptation. Several aspects were adored by the fans, like the relationship build-up between Sung Jinwoo and Cha Hae-In. Adding these extra elements may have added layers to the story, but it forgot one of the crucial factors of the manhwa – unlimited action sequences.
