Vistula Fens has been a battlefield between man and nature for centuries. People took land from the sea, and the water always came back, inexorable, insatiable. In 1965, when another wave of torrential rains threshed these lands, its inhabitants were shaken by a series of brutal murders. The mystery of the headless, impossibly mutilated bodies has surpassed local services. Lieutenant Marek Nowaczyk from the Criminal Department of the Headquarters in Warsaw was sent to help them. The investigator, who came from the capital, encountered not only the conspiracy of silence of the members of the local community and the arrangements of local party officials, but above all with a different case than anything he had dealt with before. Is there really a German spy behind the murders and everything is politically motivated, or does the root of this evil run deeper? The rain kept pouring down. And with the water came...they.
