Some 45 years ago, the Cannes Film Festival invited Francis Ford Coppola to bring his latest project to the French Riviera for a special “work-in-progress” screening. The movie’s production had already achieved a mythic status as an example of Murphy’s Law made manifest, from last-minute actor replacements to monsoons to storylines being added, subtracted and rewritten on the fly. Coppola had sunk a lot of his own money into the project, since the studios had been reluctant to finance what seemed like a huge folly. The director had staked...

Travis Scott has dropped his video for “Fe!n” featuring Playboi Carti. The single is off of Scott’s Utopia, which was released last summer.
Scott released the Gabriel Moses-directed video ahead of his appearance on Saturday Night Live tonight, March 30, where he will serve as the musical guest. In the visual, the duo is seen making woozy 360-degree rotations aptly timed to their bars and the beats. A choir of children, dancers, a Sumo wrestler, and more are also seen spinning in front of the video’s black backdrop.

Producer Mike Dean celebrated his birthday Friday night at Los Angeles’ the Wiltern, and two of the artists he recently helped out in the studio — the Weeknd and Travis Scott — were in attendance to serve as onstage guests.
The Weeknd — who worked with Dean on 2015’s Beauty Behind the Madness up through The Idol soundtrack — opened with an unlikely song selection, delivering a synth-laden rendition of “In Heaven (Lady in the Radiator Song)” from the David Lynch film Eraserhead.

Rapper Travis Scott recently teamed up with the entertainment company A24 and director Harmony Korine (Kids) on two different projects. One was Circus Maximus, a companion piece to Scott’s album Utopia that reached theatres the day before Utopia was released. The other is the “action-oriented feature” Aggro Dr1ft, which was shot entirely in infrared and has been making the festival rounds. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray wasn’t very impressed with Aggro Dr1ft after catching one of its festival screenings, giving it a 5/10 review that can be read Here. Next up is a February 7th screening at a strip club in Los Angeles called Crazy Girls (tickets are available at This Link), and in anticipation of that screening a trailer for the film has arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.

Rapper Travis Scott stars in the first trailer for his and director Harmony Korine’s indie film “Aggro Dr1ft,” which was shot entirely in infrared.
The short trailer is bathed in the starkly contrasted colors of the infrared lens, and it follows an assassin on his journey. “Breaking away from the traditional parameters of cinema, ‘Aggro Dr1ft’ explores the onslaught of digital ephemera and interrogates modern life through the vernacular of video games. Shot entirely through an infrared lens, the film follows a Miami Beach hitman as he embarks on the relentless pursuit of his next target,” reads the logline.
“As it is, ‘Aggro Dr1ft’ is visually thrilling but somewhat tedious to sit through — better as wallpaper than the main attraction,” wrote Variety chief film critic Peter Debruge in his review. “Still, as with James Cameron’s ‘Avatar,’ there’s wisdom in the generic quality of his script. Attorneys representing the plaintiffs of ongoing civil lawsuits over the 2021 Astroworld tragedy have filed an “emergency motion” requesting information from the phones of Travis Scott and his associates, which have yet to be produced for the court despite an outstanding order to do so. According to Scott’s lawyer, Steve Brody, though, no such information from Scott’s phone will be accessible because it “fell off a boat” in January 2022, and is currently sitting somewhere at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico.
News of both the motion and Brody’s response came from a new Rolling Stone report quoting court transcripts. The emergency motion was filed shortly after the deposition of Cactus Jack’s general manager, David Stromberg, who disclosed that he also never turned his phone over to lawyers for imaging. In response, the plaintiffs’ attorneys asserted the importance of obtaining and analyzing the information from those devices,...

“Everyone is kind of based in this film,” offered Harmony Korine. “They’re all just… based.”

While he’s now 50 years old, former enfante terrible filmmaker Harmony Korine is still a little mischievous boy at heart. While he’s seemingly mellowed somewhat—and kinda stopped telling tall tales— unless his recent comments about potentially directing a Terrence Malick script is one of his fibs—he’s also not against doing wild experimental sh*t. Some of the wild things he’s done lately utilize the American rapper Travis Scott. Scott starred in “Circus Maximus,” a musical/album companion film he directed, along with segments helmed by Korine, Gaspar Noé, Nicolas Winding Refn, and more.

Circus Maximus
Before their collaboration Aggro Dr1ft heads to the fall festival circuit, Travis Scott and Harmony Korine’s Utopia album companion Circus Maximus is now available to stream for free. Also featuring segments directed by Gaspar Noé, Nicolas Winding Refn, Valdimar Jóhannsson (Lamb), and music-video maestro Kahlil Joseph, the release follows a brief theatrical run a few weeks back.
Killer Joe (William Friedkin)
Somewhere between greasy leftover fried chicken and stale half-finished beer cans sits Killer Joe, filmmaker William Friedkin’s fresh adaptation of Tracy Letts’ 20-year-old play. Young Chris (Emile Hirsch) has an idea: have his mother killed and collect on her insurance in order to pay off a batch of drugs that’s gone missing. Chris’ father Ansel shrugs in agreement,...

The 19 songs on Travis Scott’s comeback album Utopia weren’t enough content for him. Nearly a month after its release, the rapper has expanded the world of the album with four new music videos. The visual release, dropped all at once on YouTube, includes “Hyaena,” “Sirens,” “Modern Jam,” and “Delresto (Echoes),” which features vocal contributions from Beyoncé. All four clips have been ripped from a much larger project: the 75-minute long companion film Circus Maximus, now available in full on YouTube after a brief theatrical release and Apple Music premiere.

Harmony Korine teased upcoming Venice premiere “Aggro Dr1ft” in Locarno, where he picked up the Pardo d’onore Manor award for outstanding achievement in cinema.
“I am excited. I have never made anything like it. I was trying not to make a movie. I don’t know if it will be a scandal, but it will be its own statement,” he said.
“Aggro Dr1ft” stars Spain’s Jordi Molla and Travis Scott. Korine has already worked with Scott on “Circus Maximus” – as well as his friend Gaspar Noé, surprise guest at the fest, who ended up co-moderating his Saturday masterclass.
“It was pretty wild. It was crazy!,” said Korine about the “last-minute” collab with Scott, also opening up about his humble beginnings.
“I grew up in Nashville, I was born into a commune. My dad made strange documentaries about Southern moonshiners and circus people, and then he sold some weed.

Travis Scott’s ambitious live premiere of his newest album Utopia, originally set to take place at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, took place in Italy on Monday at the historic Circus Maximus, an event stadium and park in Rome that was at one point the home of chariot races. Utopia, which became Scott’s third album to debut at Number One this week, has received numerous comparisons from fans to Kanye West’s 2013 album Yeezus. So, fittingly, Travis Scott brought Ye out on stage during his show. “There...

Travis Scott’s determination to perform his new album Utopia at an ancient international monument is sending him to Italy. The rapper announced that in one week, on Aug. 7, he will bring his latest live show to Circus Maximus, an entertainment stadium and public park in Rome that used to host chariot races. The event will possibly get Scott’s live performance plans back on track after his scheduled appearance at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt was canceled due to production-related complications.

Travis Scott has revealed his fourth studio album, Utopia, is dropping this Friday, July 28th. Music from the project will be featured in a new film called Circus Maximus, which is set to hit theaters one day earlier.
Utopia marks the follow-up to Scott’s 2018 album, Astroworld, and is his first full-length since the 2021 crowd crush at his Astroworld music festival that left 10 people dead and thousands injured. It includes the first single, “K-pop,” a collaboration with Bad Bunny and The Weeknd. See the first of five album covers below; pre-orders are ongoing.
Scott wrote Circus Maximus and co-directed it with Gaspar Noé, Nicolas Winding Refn, Harmony Korine, Valdimar Jóhannsson, and Kahlil Joseph. Though the poster says the movie was produced by A24, Pitchfork reports the studio has clarified it was not involved with the film. Check out the trailer below.
