This is Season 3, Episode 6 of the ITV program Perspectives, which aired in 2013. It has TV host Jonathan Ross taking a look back at how one of Hollywood's most renown and recognizable filmmakers (responsible for directing the greatest film of all-time: Vertigo) was actually "Made In Britain".
Hitchcock spent the first 40 years of his life living and perfecting his trade in Britain. So Ross has decided to give the 23 (of his 53) films that were made while he was in the UK a bit of a go-over, to uncover just how influences growing up and working in Britain had molded his worldview- which would be reflected in his films- and shaped him into the Master of Cinema that he would eventually become.
One humorous anecdote from Hitchcock's youth, noted by Ross, talks about how his distrust in law enforcement stems from an incident when he was sent by his father to bring a note to the police. While just doing what he was told, he found himself being temporarily detained by the police and locked in a cell...despite the fact he was only a boy. He's clearly never forgiven them.
If you're looking for a glimpse into Hitchcock's formative years, to see how they would shape him into the man, the myth, the legend. The monolith of cinema, he would inevitably become. Then this program is certainly up your alley. Super interesting stuff that is very artistically shot and visually appealing.
