Probably the most realistic of the paranormal investigations subgenre
michaeljudsonchambers19 October 2023
These cats are queer but they're also paranormal investigators. If you think that's a little too rich, you'd be surprised how well the marginalized in society can find ways to empathize with people going through struggles that other people can't actually see or believe. If the group is improvising their way through their investigations, they're really good at it. They're not "looking for evidence" so much as accepting the evidence and looking for solutions to the problems. That it always ends nice and pat is a bit TLC of them, but the journey is fantastic. They connect with their destination hosts and discover acceptance wherever they go, which is honestly a breath of fresh air for queer journeys. I suspect everyone is screened before participating, of course, but this is a show at its core about acceptance. Where other paranormal investigations are essentially circus freak sideshow performances, in this one, we get to know the performers and we get to see the real story is usually a few layers beneath the popcorn cheesiness often shallowly on display.

A refreshing narrative
elial4714 May 2024
I recently watched this show with my partner, and I really enjoyed seeing a queer perspective on the classic genre of ghost hunting, especially since it's dominated by straight white men. The personalities are well-defined, the structure is an interesting blend of narrative modes, and the visual style is LOTS of fun. I especially loved Roz Hernandez. She is a wonderful comedic foil to the rest of the cast's individual (and usually more solemn) contributions. She doesn't need tarot cards or witchcraft; she just radiates pure VIBES, and I absolutely love it.

I gave the series a high medium grade because, while advertised as a queer ghost hunting show, I think it utilizes the mode of ghost hunting as a narrative pillar rather than making it the core concept. I grew up on Ghost Adventures trying to prove ghosts exist and whatnot. This show, however, seems to use spiritual/ghost hunting tropes (e.g. Divination, sensory deprivation, thermal cameras, etc.) to accent a wider story. I think it skims off the top of other popular ghost hunting shows and adds a unique queer flair to create a queer reality show that centers itself on healing, spiritualism, and a wider sense of community and that stands out from its peers (like We're Here). I'll probably watch this again around Halloween.

If you're looking for a good scare and proof that ghosts exist, I personally wouldn't pick this. But if you're looking for a fun time, welcome home!

Inclusive and Real
cinthyassalinas22 October 2023
I've been following Roz Hernandez for years with her podcast (Ghosted by Roz) so when this show was announced, I knew it would be equal parts legit paranormal and real cases as well as entertaining. It does not disappoint; also inclusive in all ways, queer cast and all with their own unique abilities and contributions= representation matters! (thank you Hulu!) Love the way they filmed and shot this, great narration too, 10/10 for me! Keep the seasons coming and continue to show the paranormal and occult, there's beauty in that world that has been hidden for way too long! Can't wait for a second season!

Don't waste your time watching
dustinbl23 October 2023
If I could rate this a 0, I would. This was very hard to watch. And before you all come at me because you think I am giving this such a bad rating for being LGBTQ+, I am part of that community and am happily married to my partner. We tried watching this and it was very high school like and fake. There seemed to be parts that were rehearsed prior to filming. The 5 say they are trained in the paranormal but yet, show fear, screaming, run away, etc. It was not believable at all. The stories seemed fake, and a lot of miss information. My husband is a huge Kristen Stewart fan, and couldn't believe she would want to be part of something this terrible.

Authentic People Investigating the Paranormal
leighjackson-9763621 October 2023
This is a ghost investigating show, BUT, it is also a show about people being true to themselves and living their lives as an inspiration to others. It's about not being confined by other's expectations and it's about the trials each person has faced throughout their life. You do not have to be queer to enjoy this show. Anyone who feels different from the 'norm' will feel a kinship to the cast of Living for the Dead. Empathy for ourselves and empathy for other people, living and dead, goes a long way in healing the traumas that can cause paranormal activity. Sometimes the dead still need to be heard before they can fully move on.

Obsessed!!
waryanlibrarian22 October 2023
I watch a lot of ghost hunting shows and this is my new favorite. The cast uses their paranormal expertise but more importantly, their empathy to connect with people affected by the haunting locations, while also trying to find evidence to corroborate the lore. Roz is my fave, of course. She is always cracking jokes. I also like Juju because she uses a method of divination that I've never seen in these shows- she uses shells! All in all, this is a super unique and heartwarming watch. It's already become a new favorite and in the heavy rotation of cozy shows I put on when I'm feeling like a night in.

HORRIBLE
emmablain-2046422 October 2023
My boyfriend and I forced ourselves to watch this and couldn't get past episode 4. This was so cringe and bad. I felt like I was in high school, and they were trying too hard. Maybe because of the camera? Also, there was a lot of miss information which was frustrating. I have a hard time watching ghost shows, and some are actually not bad, but this was terrible and not believable at all. SMH. If I could give it a 0, I would. I don't even know why Kristen Stewart would watch to be part of this show, and maybe that is the only reason people are giving this higher stars. Do not waste your time watching this!

Entertainment, spookyness, wholesome goodness feelings
djenny-7433821 October 2023
I am serially so happy this show exists. Right away the cast has people I would feel safe with. Learning their backstories and specialties is so interesting and fun. The way they use their abilities to heal the living and the dead is so entertaining and enlightening. The flow and cadence of the show really grabs me and I want to learn more. The random breaks of humor provide a great laugh to provide a breath of fresh air and cut the tension of serious moments, while still honoring the history of what took place in a haunted location. It is wonderful to see and feel queer representation in the paranormal community. Thank you for creating this show!

Disappointed
hendersonbillk22 October 2023
I loved Queer Eye so I had to watch this, when I heard that the same creators were doing this show. Well, my honest review is that this was so bad and cringe to watch. The cast say they are professionals in this field, but why were scared, running away, screaming and showed fear? I have been to two of the places they visited and their facts were not correct. Please do your research before you say things. I felt like this was a little childish and not believable. I have seen other ghost hunting shows, and this was by far the worst one. I get you guys are trying to make people believe in what you do, but making up things and calling it "science" is not it. This is far from it as other people have mentioned. It's a sad world we live in that this is what people are trying to put out into the world.

My new favorite ghost show
katlingardner-7805322 October 2023
I'm usually not a fan of paranormal or ghost hunting shows but Living for the Dead is the perfect mix of spooky, comedy, and heartwarming. The characters are iconic and will make you laugh. I was hooked from the start and watched all the episodes in two days. Sure the show is kind of a niche genre but it's exactly the type of show I want to watch during spooky season. It's refreshing to see a new spin on ghost hunting instead of the same thing over and over. It's also pretty cool that the team is more focused on the stories surrounding the locations and the people who are involved with them. I really hope that there will be more episodes to come and more ghost stories to be told.

The haters clearly didn't watch
thejaynester31 October 2023
This show is warm, funny, sentimental, raw, fun, and spooky! Too bad people can't see past their own bigotry- your world would be so much better if you didn't choose hatred. Oh well.

The premise is nice- 5 queer people who work in the paranormal field travel the country and get to the bottom of the ghost mysteries.. but it doesn't end there. The healing of the ghost trauma or the realization by the people experiencing the hauntings to heal themselves is stunning. I've never seen anything quite like this and I can't wait for season two!

I laughed, I cried, I'm watching it all again! Thank you for this super fun show and for introducing these people to a greater audience- I'm a fan for life... and my afterlife???

Both entertaining and healing
dmsabina-2710622 October 2023
Beautifully done, high production value and a visual and auditory pleasure (contrasts with most reality shows and ghost hunting shows). Fun and meaningful (Ken's bathroom breakdown of ep 1? Got me right in the ticker and represents so many of my queer friends who were kicked out of home and rejected by their parents when they came out as teens) especially given the current anti-queer sentiment in evangelical united states. Compelling. I love all the main characters, they have good banter and interplay. Everyone's flawlessly dressed, too! What a fun show. Can't wait to watch more. I'm praying for a season 2!

Misleading from trailer
lindsayyunl23 October 2023
I tried so hard to get into this show but it was just not good. It felt too impulsed and cheesy. Maybe I expected too much out of it since it's from the creators of Queer Eye. I felt like the cast was trying too hard and wanted so hard to make you believe what they were throwing out (making up). There were parts when it also seemed like maybe things were set up? Maybe it's just me. I just think this is not as good as they made it look like from the trailer. The narration was a big over the top. Did anyone else feel like the emotions were forced too? This was nothing like Queer Eye. Lastly, the acting felt like they were trying too hard; maybe due to the camera? If there is a second season, I hope it will be better than what this garbage of a first season was.

SPOOKY FUNNY EMOTIONAL REALNESS
gabybergman-5183621 October 2023
There are so many different paranormal shows out there but there is NOTHING like this one. This show has such heart and wholesomeness to it. I laughed, I cried, and I was seriously creeped out. The cast is full of real people with true gifts and you really just want to root for them. Hulu better give them a season 2 because this show really deserves it! 10/10 SHANTAY they better stay. I really hate when ghost shows provoke the spirits and show a lack of respect for the dead but the gang in living for the dead does just the opposite they truly go into every investigation with the purest intentions.

Forced and Cringeworthy
joemoreno-2261622 October 2023
The entire show felt extremely cringeworthy. I had trouble making it through the first episode, it felt so forced an contrived. Some ghost shows are fun just from an entertainment standpoint, even if the stories or "evidence" are obviously fabricated. This was not the case for Living with the Dead.

I'm also very surprised Kristen Stewart would want her name attached to a show like this. I understand that maybe because it showcases queer people, she might have an interest, but in a lot of ways I felt like the queer representation was so overdone that it was borderline caricature. I need to stop getting my hopes up for paranormal TV shows.

Such a fun concept
kenzie-5322921 October 2023
So I went on a true crime tour with Ken Boggle and he recommended watching his new show, when it first came out I didn't really know the full extent of what it was about but the concept of these queer investigators going out and not only investigating places but also actively helping people with their businesses, their lives, and relationships, but they also have some of the most deep and clarifying talks that even has an impact on me, I recommend at least giving the show a chance, the cast is so beautiful and so refreshing and I can't recommend this show more, btw Ken Boggle is absolutely hilarious in person too!

ARE WE WATCHING THE SAME THING?
kevinbhg23 October 2023
I have to start out with first saying that I tried so hard to like this. I love ghost hunting shows and have been watching them for years. Upon watching this show, I couldn't believe how bad it was and how forced the acting was. Their personalities also seemed fake and felt like they were trying too hard. There were so many parts that were staged (the bartender in the second episode), and it makes you think how fake this all is. The cast say they are supposedly trained in this field, but yet show fear and surprise a lot of the time. If you say you are "professionals" wouldn't you not be faded by those things? There were times when it would be so cringe, and cheesy (not in a good day) that I wanted to turn my tv off. This show was so off putting and terrible. So unfortunate.

Loved it
griszeldadelcampo23 October 2023
Living for the Dead is a fresh, new take on the ghost hunter genre that we all know and love - except this one is way more enjoyable, and the 5 hosts are so ridiculously relatable. Every episode contains amazing spooky content, haunted history, and heartfelt moments. Also, as a morbid-loving queer, this show made me feel so seen and validated, and I can't emphasize that enough. Thank you so much to the creators of this show for executing so perfectly. I was sold just from episode 1 at the Clown Motel. And can we talk about how Roz's wardrobe SLAYS!? 14/10! Currently binging and savoring every moment.

Let's promote harmful stereotypes
shagycvts9 March 2024
I find it absolutely hilarious how people are commenting saying that bots and the same person/people are giving this show a horrible review. Sorry to break it to you but people DO think this show is cringe, fake, has false information, try's too hard, is set up, and flat out HORRIBLE AND BAD! We also know that the cast is always asking people to come on here and give them a 5 star rating just so they can get another season. Now that is sad. This show needs to be taken down because it promotes toxic stereotypes. Majority of those who are saying this is good are people who are the casts posse or obsessed with one of them. You can see it.

It comes down to the truth. So people don't have to waste their time and waste seconds of their lives watching this garbage. Shame on Hulu for putting this out there.

Kind cast, entertaining banter
jdupre-4171822 October 2023
Kind cast, entertaining banter. The cast seems to truly care about the people they encounter. Enjoying the opinions and viewpoints from all over the map. It's about time there is diversity in this genre. Worth watching... can't wait for future seasons.

Juju and Ross stole my heart. Their level headedness and calm demeanor is refreshing compared to most over produced paranormal television. The comedic flare Ross gifts us with adds a level required to combat the "come at me bro" aspect in the unnamed show that is splashed all over other networks. While they still seem to solve the mysteries as in all paranormal shows .... It still very much worth watching. Much respect.

Entertaining, heartwarming, and authentic
elimmarti22 October 2023
You can tell this show was made with love from people who actually understand how powerful this kind of work can be. Each episode tells an interesting diverse story that also helps the viewer even grow as a person. So entertaining and fun to watch! Roz is so funny and helps interject humor at the perfect time. The other people in the cast are also talented AF! And all of them so beautiful and vibey, loved the wardrobe so much! I so appreciate the way the show was edited too. From the music all the way down to the colorization, absolute perfection! I really hope we get more seasons and more shows from Hollywood like this!

Spare yourself
sportsfan-4344022 October 2023
Terrible over acting, fake scares, boring story lines and fake props. Anyone who watches is more dumb after watching this series. Constant crying and boring personalities make this show a snooze fest. They all seem angry and need to do their own exorcisms. How can you be scared when you are on a ghost hunting show! If this is supposed to be Queer Eye, well, it is not funny at all. Surprised Kristen Stewart would be associated with this work. Seems like a group therapy session for all these lost souls, especially Ken, would be more beneficial and interesting to watch verses whatever this show is about.

Paranormal but make it sparkle
soniallrivera21 October 2023
My wife and I love this show! Kristin Stewart's narration is funny and adds something to the show that hits home for nostalgic millennials. Ghost hunting shows often seek to irritate or disprove the paranormal but this show sheds light on otherworldly events that not only exist but could coexist if we give them space and compassion to understand them. Every member of the group is gifted and fits the family of physic explorers perfectly. Sometimes the queer community just does it better. In this case, straight white men just can't pull it off like these folks can. I love that they travel in an old camper and they actually visit the area locals to get proper research. It feels more authentic.

Horrible
willaimtsell13 February 2024
I know that everyone deserves to be heard so here is my honest opinion about this show. First of all I came out many years ago and it wasn't easy for me. I have always supported the LGBTQ+ community and think everyone should be treated equally. With that being said, this show was not what I expected it to be. I honestly felt like it was offensive to even put out a show like this with such toxic personalities. They just seemed so fake. It made me want to even scream at the tv sometimes with how these fake personalities are being pushed. None of the "paranormal" was even real (you could tell how made up it was, there were props and conversations that HAD to have happened prior to filming, the cast say they are professionals at what they do but do things to contradict that. It was just really bad and yes cringe like others are saying. This needs to be taken off platforms. We are not like how these personalities are being portrayed and honestly everyone involved should be ashamed. Such a garbage show! Waste of time.
