Reverse Indiana Jones

So "adventure archaeology" has been a stapple of popular culture for decades. Usually it focuses on obtaining artifacts, unfortunately ignoring the realities of colonialism and its unlawful theft of culturally important items.

So what if there was a show inversing that, restoring what has been lost to its rightful owners?

A show like that, with nice cel-shaded CGI animation, emotionally mature writting, extensive research into various cultures and mythologies and with mix-race family representation?

Yeah, all of that. This first season has been a blast, and I cannot wait for the promised season 2.

Great Fun

Warning: Spoilers
My wife and I enjoyed the show - but more importantly, our kids LOVED it. The animation is awesome. The shading effects that they used were really cool, and I can't recall really seeing anything like that in other "kids" animation. The central idea of needing to return the artifacts to alleviate a family curse is fantastic. The family dynamic was fun, especially the loving bickering between the kids. But my favorite part of the whole thing was the little peeks into various culture's folklore. Whether "true" or not (I don't know), it was always really appealing to me. If you have young kids that may lean towards entertainment that is a bit "creepy", check this out. Highly recommended.

Great Show

This new series has been great. The content is family friendly for my 9 and 12 year old children. A good mix of fun, scares, and smart dialogue that my children could relate to. Assume family we watched the first three episodes all at one time and wanted to watch more but because it was already past our children's normal bed time we didn't. Before we started the series I read that it was like Indiana Jones in reverse and I would have to agree. Some adventure, historical artifacts, supernatural, and good thoughtful moments for children to learn from. My family is looking forward to watching the rest of the series. It may help to know that another animated series we really enjoyed together was Troll Hunters.

Outstanding Adventure of a Show!
ckarayan4 November 2023
I consumed this show in almost one sitting. Brilliantly done in all the ways. I cannot wait for another season!

It reminds me of Doctor Who (especially with Matt Smith as The Doctor), the Monkey Island games, and Indiana Jones -- plus a family that feels real. As a mother myself, I am so grateful to see multi-dimensional Sky as a character.

The show is asking us to consider (or perhaps reconsider) the appropriateness of museums and private individuals continuing to hold the cultural property of other societies. It's also asking us to consider what it would be like to live in a big, weird old house and have a friend with a small plane who can take you anywhere. And that's how you know it's a great show!
