When it comes to Batman flicks, there is one that stands out as a notorious flop: Batman & Robin, starring George Clooney as the caped crusader. The 1997 film currently has a dismal 12% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is often considered the most disappointing Batman flick ever made.
Not everyone, though, concurs with this evaluation. Enter Josh Brolin, whose affinity for the superhero genre isn’t exactly a secret, and of course, his portrayal of Thanos is something that will never be forgotten. The actor, 56, did defend Clooney’s portrayal of the caped crusader.
But is Bruce Wayne in Batman & Robin, played by Clooney, truly the worst Batman in live-action?
Josh Brolin as Thanos in a still from Avengers: Infinity War
Though Clooney’s breakout role on NBC’s ER was much deeper than that, his portrayal of Bruce Wayne in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin is akin to the TV heartthrob cliché.

Zack Snyder’s DC tenure is over, as it seems, but he is yet to move on from the glorious legacy he had forged in the DC universe. The director has somewhat given the studio an identity while creating his own universe as we know it as Snyderverse. Currently, Snyder is working with Netflix, but he would go back to DC in a heartbeat for one movie.

Right now, Snyder has been in a huge conflict with critics as his Rebel Moon franchise has been a critical bomb. Also, a Norse mythology-inspired animated series Twilight of the Gods from the director at Netflix recently got the first image, which revealed that he will be with Netflix for quite a while.

There’s no denying that the only major Superman villains to have gotten any limelight in the movies are Lex Luthor and General Zod. But given the opportunity, Superman helmer Zack Snyder would have introduced a different and more significant villain from the comics that would have changed the trajectory of his Man of Steel sequel.

Zack Snyder’s early films proved him to be an interesting visionary who had a distinct style to his works. Grand visuals, the application of slow-mo sequences, and colorful imagery have been the main strengths and trademarks of a Snyder film. However, audiences have been divisive about his big screen DC films in the 2010s.
Zack Snyder’s DC tenure started with 2013’s Man of Steel
Considering the hit-or-miss nature of Snyder with audiences, the 2020s saw a big change in the director and where he puts his films. Starting from Army of the Dead, his films have only premiered on Netflix. This sudden downgrade from making big-budget studio films for the big screen to just releasing streaming films is surprising but a new report sheds light on how films are greenlit nowadays.

Zack Snyder has been a hot and cold figure in the DC fandom. Even though he has been regarded as one of the most talented filmmakers to have even been part of the franchise, his approach towards certain characters raised several eyebrows during his time working in the universe. He made several fundamental changes to certain characters that completely went against their moral code.
Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel
The best example would be the fact that Ben Affleck’s Batman killed 30 people in the SnyderVerse. In almost every version of the character, the no-killing rule has been the only separation between the Caped Crusader and the villains he fights. Another perfect example would be that of Superman.

Movie lovers will know that Zack Snyder is a very divisive personality in the world of cinema, as you either love his movies or you hate them. With Snyder, there is no in-between; his vision is so specific that you will either like it completely and enjoy his movies or think it completely ridiculous and consider his movies a failure. There are many examples of that, including his to-date controversial adaptation of Watchmen, his Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the currently talked-about Rebel Moon series.
But, while the Rebel Moon series has been panned by critics as Snyder’s worst work, it seems that the filmmaker’s collaboration with Netflix is still strong, as it has recently been confirmed that Snyder’s other project with the streaming service will premiere this year!

After leaving the Dceu behind, Zack Snyder has been quite busy with his Rebel Moon franchise which already has two films to its name. The films revolve around a fictional galaxy ruled by something called the Motherworld. Rebel Moon sees Sofia Boutella in the lead role as she does a splendid job of bringing Korra to life. From the cast to the crew, Zack Snyder worked with brilliant people who were on the top of their game.
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part 2 – The Scargiver
However, it seems like the filmmaker felt that there was still a piece missing from the puzzle. As it turns out, the missing jigsaw piece needed to complete the picture is none other than Patrick Tatopoulos, the Production Designer for Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Now, Zack Snyder is hoping his old friend would help him out on the third Rebel Moon film.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s famous aversion to starring in comic book movies made him a hero among cinephiles who resented the genre’s pop culture dominance in the 2010s. But while the Oscar winner never took on a Marvel or DC role, Zack Snyder said he was once willing to consider it.
In a new appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Snyder revealed that he met with DiCaprio about the role of Lex Luthor in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” that ultimately went to Jesse Eisenberg. While DiCaprio ended up turning down the opportunity, Snyder was impressed by his thoughtfulness about the comic book source material.
“He had a lot of great ideas actually, just in the meeting,” Snyder said of DiCaprio. “I think in the end, he was like ‘Eh, I don’t know.’ But he was really smart about the material and really smart about the character.

Save Martha or scrap her? The “Save Martha” moment in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was divisive to say the least, with Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent having a connection that somehow changed the entire mood and gave them some common ground, ultimately snubbing what should have been one of the all-time great fights in superhero movie history. To some, it was a deep moment of confrontation over their mutual losses, a necessary inclusion that built on the mythology of each man. But to most of us, it was just about the hokiest thing imaginable.
Zack Snyder has been open in his understanding that the Martha scene in Batman v Superman may not work for everybody, but now he is again explaining why he decided to move forward with it. During the writing process, Snyder was told by co-writer Chris Terrio, “‘You know that [their] mothers have...

The comic book universe is vast and diverse, with several characters who have caught the attention of audiences for a variety of reasons. Among these many iconic figures stand the two DC characters, Superman and Batman. One is a selfless and noble hero, the other is a vigilante yet both have left an indelible mark on popular culture.
Batman
While both characters have enjoyed an alluring appeal and draw ever since they first came into existence, Batman has undoubtedly been the most popular of the two. And Christopher Nolan, the filmmaker behind one of the best Batman trilogy so far, offered his perspective on why the Dark Knight’s mythos is so timeless.

The inherent darkness surrounding Bruce Wayne is one of the most obvious reasons why fans love Batman. And Zack Snyder exploited that trait to the fullest during his tenure at DC. While making the Snyderverse movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the director put Ben Affleck’s Batman in a chaotic situation that was enough to shudder his moral ground.
Ben Affleck as Batman
Batman is so very different from Superman but the character needs to maintain God-like prowess to level up with Superman (who is equivalent to God for humankind) and other heroes infused with superpowers. Snyder was candid enough to reveal his philosophy behind making Affleck’s Batman ruthless in the movie.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s cemented status as one of Hollywood’s favorites hasn’t changed in a bit after decades of his flourishing career — and there are so many factors that may have contributed to the actor’s stunning success.
Be it the most challenging roles or long-standing collaborations with the best directors, but it’s probably his strict adherence to personal and professional principles that comes as the biggest insight from DiCaprio’s acting path.

Remember Jesse Eisenberg's performance as Lex Luthor in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice"? Sure you do. It's a big, over-the-top take on a classic villain, with Eisenberg deciding to go kind of crazy playing the evil billionaire. I don't think you can call it a good performance, but I guess it's pretty darn memorable. I mean, how can you forget such a bananas take on a memorable character? I think when Eisenberg was cast we all assumed he'd play the character like he played another evil billionaire: Mark Zuckerberg. But that's not what happened. Instead, Eisenberg played Lex like a giant toddler who occasionally blows people up. It was wild.

Considering the impact it has had on both its fan base and the world at large, Man of Steel undoubtedly stands as one of the greatest Superman films ever made. And thus, surpassing its success would undoubtedly be a challenging task. It’s remarkable to think how the movie has influenced other films that seemingly had no connection to it.
Man of Steel has reshaped the landscape of comic book films, introducing thought-provoking themes and emotional connections that were previously unexpected in the genre. Instead of merely serving as entertainment, it has become something far greater than just a typical superhero movie.

If there is one DC Extended Universe movie with a more dedicated fanbase compared to the rest, it is Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Having cast the most beloved characters—Henry Cavill as Superman and Ben Affleck as Batman—in his film, Snyder had a brilliant idea for the franchise that would have made it one of the greatest ever.
Snyder had lofty goals for the DC Extended Universe (Dceu), which were sadly thwarted. From the very beginning, the director had the ideal plot for Justice League. One of the most anticipated storylines that fans were looking forward to was seeing Henry Cavill’s Superman face off against the ruthless villain Darkseid, but it seems that those dreams have been dashed.

Zack Snyder built this gritty realistic superhero world for his version of Dceu. Starting with Man of Steel in 2013, the Watchmen director helmed three successful movies while planning several other dropped projects. One common criticism he received for Batman v Superman was that he did not properly flesh out solo superhero stories before going for an ensemble film. However, Snyder clarified why he chose to do the team-up film.

Zack Snyder is a veteran director who has worked and created a plethora of iconic movies throughout his years in Hollywood. From 2004’s Dawn of the Dead to 2023’s Rebel Moon – Part One, Snyder has done it all.

According to Zack Snyder, one of the most significant Dceu storylines seems to have originated from none other than Oscar-winning star Leonardo DiCaprio. The 49-year-old actor was once considered for the role of Lex Luthor, Superman’s greatest enemy. In an exclusive interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the director disclosed that he had a meeting with the Titanic star to discuss the role in his 2016 superhero flick, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
However, Jesse Eisenberg ultimately won the role. Snyder also recalled that DiCaprio came up with the plan to pit Henry Cavill’s Superman against the Justice League. Sadly, the Dceu timeline came to an end in 2023 (Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom), capping ten years of superhero films that started with Snyder’s Man of Steel (2013).

Leonardo DiCaprio As Lex Luthor? Zack Snyder Considered Him For ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’

“I think I did talk to Adam on the phone, yeah,” he said of the rumored castings. “Leonardo DiCaprio, I talked to him about it.”
While Snyder ultimately went with Jesse Eisenberg as Lex, starring opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman, he revealed the Titanic star “had a lot of great ideas, actually, just in the meeting.

Fans would be surprised to know that Titanic star Leonardo DiCaprio almost played Lex Luthor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, according to director Zack Snyder. The part eventually went to Jesse Eisenberg, but how bizarre it would be to see the Oscar winner play a comic book character?

Even though he has been quite avoidant of superhero films, DiCaprio previously admitted he is not closing his door to that opportunity. Still, he hasn’t found that project that would engage him to join the world of capes and superpowers.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Snyder said he spoke on the phone with Adam Driver about the villainous role and that he approached DiCaprio about playing the bald baddie, too.

While Henry Cavill defined Superman for a decade, he has now moved on from the franchise and has been working on new projects. The actor was last seen in Matthew Vaughn’s spy comedy Argylle and is set to feature in the historical action comedy The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. The actor is also working on a Highlander reboot.
During the premiere of the Guy Ritchie directorial, Henry Cavill reportedly made fun of his unlucky streak as Superman. While talking about his collaborations with Ritchie, he mentioned his alleged post-credits scene in the director’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword. Henry Cavill may not be reprising his role as the Man of Steel anytime soon, but fans don’t need to burst into tears for him. The Hollywood Reporter discovered that the actor was paid a whopping $250,000 ‘each’ for his brief appearances in Black Adam and The Flash.
Yes, that’s what it is—a quarter of a million dollars for just a few minutes of screen time. Not bad for a day’s work, right? While some may feel sorry for Cavill for not getting the chance to star in James Gunn’s 2025 Superman release, it’s abundantly clear that the actor isn’t hurting for cash. Also, compared to Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot, the Immortals actor received a higher salary for his brief cameos in other DC flicks.

In the early days of home video, people hardly ever asked questions like, “Which version should I watch?” These days, skilled editors can make post-production edit changes to their films, sometimes producing multiple ‘directors’ versions of the same motion picture. Examples of such editors include Michael Mann, Oliver Stone, and Ridley Scott, (who has director’s cuts of Kingdom of Heaven and Blade Runner).
However, the conventional group of director’s cut enthusiasts appear to be amateurs, in contrast to Zack Snyder. His numerous extended cuts offer a more intimate glimpse into his techniques and obsessions than those of any other director.
Needless to say, most casual moviegoers these days most likely associate Zack Snyder’s Justice League with the term ‘director’s cut’. Well, we can’t deny that in recent years, Snyder, 58, has gained a reputation for releasing extended cuts of his films, prompting many to question how far artistic freedom goes.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ was an extremely important movie in the MCU, primarily due to its introduction of the Sokovia Accords, which divided the Avengers and led to a conflict between Captain America and Iron Man, for the first time in the MCU pitting superheroes against each other, with no real winner in the conflict.
It also introduced new characters like Black Panther and Spider-Man, impacting the future of the MCU. The film’s character conflict and action-packed storyline had lasting effects on team dynamics and relationships within the Avengers, making it one of the most memorable entries in the franchise.
But did you know that MCU masterpiece was actually inspired by a Dceu flop? Joe and Anthony Russo explained how one of Snyder’s badly received movies – ‘Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ inspired them to switch lanes and gave them the idea to pit the superheroes in an epic ideological fight.

Take any random film directed by Zack Snyder, and hordes of his fans will probably argue that the theatrical ‘cut’ falls short of capturing the true brilliance of the director. From the much-discussed Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021) to the director’s extended take on Watchmen (2009), the director’s cuts are arguably even more beloved than the theatrical versions.
Although he is now able to release his favorite versions of most of his films thanks to his devoted fan base, Snyder still has one more film he’d like to try. According to Snyder, who recently spoke with Empire, he is still not satisfied with the way his 2011 flick Sucker Punch turned out, and thus, he still wants to “fix” it. Well, it seems fans might need to exercise some patience.

Batman has many iconic lines. From his talk about being the personification of vengeance, or the metaphors about darkness and the night, his dialogues follow a similar tone. On top of the lines that have become popular in the comics, it would seem that every person who played the character added something of their own to his Hall of Fame.
Oftentimes, these additions end up being iconic lines that stick around long after they hang the cape.
