Saturday’s simulcast drew 3.1 million viewers across linear and digital platforms, which is up 40% over last year, according to Nickelodeon. On cable, the telecast gathered an audience of 637,000, which ranked as the top cable telecast among kids 2-11, kids 6-11, and tweens 9-14.

And for the most part, they’ve succeeded. This summer in particular proved to be an unqualified win for them, with countless movies earning rave reviews and scoring massive viewership numbers.
The likes of The Old Guard, Project Power, Extraction, Da 5 Bloods, Spenser Confidential, The Devil All the Time, Enola Holmes, The Kissing Booth 2 and Hubie Halloween offered something for everyone, catering to virtually all audiences and demographics from R-rated action to family friendly capers via PG-13 comedies and fluffy romances.

The comedy series from Pop, swept the comedy categories at the Emmy Awards back in September, with all members of the main cast taking home wins in their respective areas. Despite appearing on Netflix back in 2017, the Dan Levy and Eugene Levy-created show continues to see a post-Emmys bump – raking in 75 million more minutes from the previous reported week.

It’d be easy to glance at “Truth Seekers” and mistake it for a satirical farce. The new Amazon series comes from Nat Saunders, James Serafinowicz and the vaunted duo of Nick Frost and Simon Pegg, who have collaborated on genre comedies like “Shaun of the Dead” and “The World’s End.” Starring Frost as a wireless service repairman slash amateur paranormal investigator, “Truth Seekers” has plenty of small-town British charm to spare as he travels from one haunted house to another. But the series also quickly reveals itself to be a genuinely creepy bit of horror, with ghost stories that are tragic and poignant, startling and violent. It channels everything from “The Exorcist” to “Doctor Who” to create set-pieces that stick with you after the credits have rolled, keeping the show from getting stuck in a single comedic gear.

According to the streamer, 78 million subscriber households tuned in to watch the action thriller, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and starring Charlize Theron, in its first four weeks on the platform.
Other Netflix original features that proved popular included Jamie Foxx starrer “Project Power,” which drew 75 million households in the same time frame, and “The Kissing Booth 2,” drawing 66 million households in its first 28 days.
The service predicts that “Enola Holmes,” starring Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill, will attract 76 million households in its first four weeks.
These metrics, of course, are self-reported, and based on the number of member accounts that have watched a given show or movie for a minimum of just two minutes, an in-house calculation Netflix asserts is a better reflection of popularity than average time spent viewing,...

Ryan Reynolds is certainly going to be a very busy man over the next couple of years. We already know that Disney wants the 43-year-old to headline two of their upcoming live-action remakes, while also continuing to anchor the Deadpool franchise as the crass superhero transitions into the McU. With “Mulan” arriving on more platforms October 6 and non-premium VOD titles like “The Witches” and Amazon’s “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” later this month, the home-viewing market was on pause with no new premium titles this weekend. VOD is for more than low-budget action movies. Janelle Monae, Millie Bobby Brown, and Jessica Chastain rule this week, starring in three distinctive films available only to home audiences. “Enola Holmes” on Netflix, and “Ava” are new to VOD this week, while the premium-price “Antebellum” is riding high in its second weekend at $19.99.
“Ava,” released September 25, currently sits at #1 on both AppleTV and Google Play at a standard new-release price of $6.99. It was a troubled production: Matthew Newton wrote the film (originally titled “Eve”) and developed it with Chastain, who stars as an assassin in a secret organization. However, he stepped down as its director about a month before production began in September 2018 after facing public backlash to his past charges of domestic violence and assault. (Newton pled guilty.)
Tate Taylor, who previously directed Chastain in “The Help” and “Ma,” replaced Newton; after the film wrapped, it was retitled “Ava.

Director/producer Nick Robinson is filming the creatures that underpin the ecosystems of the Great Barrier Reef in Microworlds: Reef, the first Netflix Original Australian documentary.
Robinson and producer/Dop Pete West developed super-macro camera techniques for the film, designed to immerse viewers in the world of the reef’s tiny inhabitants.
The feature doc is a co-production between Wild Pacific Media’s Robinson, Electra Manikakis and Peta Ayers and Port Douglas-based BioQuest Studios’ West, Louise Polain and Daniel Stoupin.
Screen Australia and Screen Queensland are co-funding the production, which complies with an approved Covid-safe industry plan, with Netflix.

The puzzles in “Enola Holmes” are not especially difficult, but they’re enough to stump the great Sherlock Holmes (played here by “Man of Steel” star Henry Cavill). To solve this particular mystery — which involves the disappearance of the detective’s mother, Eudoria (Helena Bonham Carter) — will require an even sharper intellect than Sherlock’s, which we find in the form of his spunky younger sister, Enola (Millie Bobby Brown of “Stranger Things”), an untamed country wildflower who has spent her first 16 years on Earth preparing for just such a case, though she didn’t realize it at the time.

It’s a new month, which means there’s plenty of fresh stuff to stream across a variety of platforms, and Netflix got off to a fantastic start right out of the gate with yesterday’s substantial first of the month content drop. With over 30 new additions, the service brought back all three movies in the Back to the Future trilogy, the hilarious Seth Rogen and James Franco team-up Pineapple Express, classic musical Grease, and all six seasons of the beloved 90’s sitcom Sister, Sister, among many others.
There’s still tons of other exciting content in the pipeline for the rest of the month, too. September 4th will bring the eerie psychological horror I’m Thinking of Ending Things, which has already scored exceptionally well on Rotten Tomatoes with an impressive 88%, while September 18th will see the debut of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, a computer-animated show set in the Jurassic Park universe.
