Crimes of the Century: The DC Snipers (2013)
CNN's series kicked off with a look at the 2002 sniper killings that haunted and terrorized the Washington, D.C. area. The documentary rightly informs people that this was just a year after 9/11 and many people fears that the country was coming under attack from a terrorist group or perhaps someone just acting out their evil political notions. What I enjoyed most about this CNN documentary is that it's honest enough to admit that the media played a very negative role in the events including leaking information, which probably cost innocent people their lives and there's also the so-called talking head experts who had people looking for a white man in a white van. It's also discussed how people looking for these vans allowed the real killers to pretty much go around without any chance of slipping up. It's fascinating seeing all the events play out and especially the ending because if it wasn't for the killer's making one mistake then it's doubtful they would have ever been caught. The documentary does an extremely good job at putting you in the time frame of the killings and it's a pretty tense ride and especially for those who remember the events.
