The Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2023
jboothmillard7 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
If you are a fan of pub quizzes and have a good knowledge of the news events in the world, music, TV and film, science and technology, sport, politics and much more in the year gone by, then this is a great show to watch and have fun with. Hosted by Jimmy Carr, with celebrity panellists in three teams: Richard Ayoade and Mel Giedroyc (The Unpronounceables), Rosie Jones and Katherine Ryan (Daddy and Me), and Mo Gilligan and Kevin Bridges (GB News). This quiz focused on the year 2023, with all sorts of questions to answer about the past twelve months. These questions are asked as they are, with video and sound clips, with pictures (including Say What You See), and by celebrity and mystery guests on screen or in the studio, so it really does feel like a proper quiz that you can take part in. Events in the year 2023 that were questioned and joked about, and mentioned (or pictured) included: The endless strikes (by nurses, teachers, trains, and US writers), Ted Lasso, Ncuti Gatwa becoming Doctor Who, the deaths of Paul O'Grady, Michael Parkinson, Sinead O'Connor, Matthew Perry, Sir Michael Gambon, Bobby Charlton, Tina Turner and Len Goodman, Brian Cox in Succession, Rihanna at the Super Bowl, An Audience with Kylie, Beyoncé and her Renaissance concert, Just Stop Oil protestor spilling orange paint at the snooker, Barbenheimer (Barbie and Oppenheimer), Holly Willoughby on This Morning asking "Are you okay?" following the Phillip Schofield controversy, The Super Mario Bros. you well" to Terry Sanderson who tried to sue her which came across wrong, Gregg Wallace and Michel Roux Jr. In a hoax documentary The British Miracle Meat receiving 400 Ofcom complaints because viewers assumed they were eating human flesh, TikTok emotional reactions for the finale of The Last of Us, Expend4bles, M3GAN, the Titan submersible, social media app Threads launched, Collins The jokes and the questions are what make this show so much fun, they always choose the right celebrity panellists, and it works as a funny way to reminisce on the recent events you remember, a great comedy quiz show. Good!
