Because of the short time they had for filming, Sally would work through the entire script in single takes, with the script being 20 minutes long. Kirkby was amazed to see her shaking, crying, feeling it in every single take. After each take, Sally had to have a long sit down.
Sally Hawkins was originally unable to do the film, due to a scheduling issue. However, director Mat Kirkby decided to postpone the production for months in order to maintain Hawkins in the lead role.
