Pieces solving a puzzle
jhudson-1170428 July 2017
Agent's of Shield continues to try and find it's footing in it's second episode, and it falters and teeters on a beam. While the interesting does introduce us to a cool new weapon and develops the team more, there is still problems that it faces.

The weapon found by the team is pretty badass. The destruction it caused to a plane is massive and I really want to see more of it.

Some of the team develops as we see another side to Ward other than the gruff, no nonsense spy. I like that as well as more things for Fitz and Simmons to do as they continue to be so much fun together as those two actor have crazy good chemistry. May continues to be an awesome warrior with a mysterious past. Ward called her the Cavalry so hopefully we'll get to hear the story about that.

Skye, however, continues to be a nuisance as she can't really find her place on the team and yet in the end she somehow is feeling connected to them enough to doubt her hacking group.

I'll also say that the effects were very hit and miss this episode. While the struggle in the corrupted plane and plasma beam were good, the whole life raft stops air from being sucked out of a plane at thousands of feet was just laughably bad.

Also, one more thing to mention...FURY! How incredible was it to see Samuel L Jackson pop up at the end.

+ Interesting technology + Fury! + Development for some characters - Not Skye - Some goofy effects.

Final Score: 7.2/10

As good as pilot

We see characters developed and more established in this episode. We get to know more about the six new characters and see them interact with and work together as a team when confronted with crisis.

There are a few mentions tied to the Avengers movie and a cameo appearance at the end. My only issue is Phil Coulson. How is he still alive? Make it make sense!

I did enjoy the show for what it is. These are my honest thoughts. I'm not hyped about the next episode though. The reason might be because I'm not warmed up to these characters as much as I wanted to be. They feel distant and unrelatable. But like I said, I'm starting to like them more as the show goes on.

Re-watch thoughts

This used to be my least favorite episode, I think it's on the cheesy side and lacks the clever writing that the show develops over time, but now that I'm watching it I can appreciate how fun it is, and they do lay some groundwork and give some clues for future episodes, this is objectively the worst episode of the show yet it's still really good!

Hydra left some underwear in a Mayan Temple
XweAponX11 October 2013
This Ep shifts adversaries from Chiutari to Hydra. The Teaser is a Tease, Coulson hanging out like a dirty sock from his SHIELD CGI Plane.

This little team of misfits get an "084" meaning, go and get it, before crooks get the chance. Coulson adds Skye to the team, and Ward don't like it.

In fact, this episode is one Argument-fest from start to fin. You got May, who was a one-woman army at one time, and does not want to be reminded of that job.

They get down to some Mayan Temple, and while looking at this hunk of junk are attacked by a bunch of Contras, and Coulson's Ex (Leonor Varela- "Reyes") is head of some South Am government task farce.

But a trick is a trick, leaving these Shield agents all tied up.

But Skye talks about her hacker group as "10% of a solution" - When you get many people thinking about how to deal with a problem, 100 people can come up with 10% of a solution better than one person can come up with the whole 100%.

The 10% she comes up with is a way that each member of this thing can do what they do best, in that way they beat it.

The plane really would look good with a Fish-Tank in that Blown-Open hole, despite what Nick Fury says.

Cameo number 2.

Despite the Farcity of it all, loved it.

Like an Episode of the A-Team
MyBrotherMycroft2 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Here be spoilers...

After a fun premiere episode, 0-8-4 suffered badly from the sophomore slump. Descending quickly into macguffin of the week territory, we travel to the Universal back lot, I mean Peru, to find something loosely linked with Marvel lore so we'll give a damn. But...we don't. Not really.

The action was funish, and there was plenty of it, but when bullets aren't flying and punches aren't being thrown there's not much there. The cast, Coulson aside, are ciphers.

The two experienced agents - May and Ward - are the worst offenders. I have a hard time believing Ming-Na Wen can kick butt and frowning/scowling isn't character. Ward is the blandest of bland TV heroes. And his forced "togetherness" with Skye made me cringe. Quicksilver could rub those two together and there still wouldn't be any sparks.

And speaking of Skye - the smart, sassy, but vulnerable hacker - feels like a cutout from Buffy, but lacks any of the depth. Slack-cutting time - it is only the second episode, but so far I'm not getting anything from her or her castmates. Fitz and Simmons are cute, but nothing more than shtick. If it weren't for Clark Gregg (who I love), I probably would have turned off this episode.

From the super-fake jungle (A-Team flashbacks anyone?), to the ridiculous Camilla Reyes (the Peruvian army tailor did a fine job on her uniform though) to the life raft, everything felt fake and cartoonish. And not in a fun way.

I understand the need to have macguffins of the week and for the forced team-building episode, but the when the team itself is this bland, I just have trouble mustering up enough energy to care.

I love Marvel. I love Joss. I love Coulson. I'll stick around, but I'm disappointed so far. There's such potential here, but so far so meh.

Worse than the pilot
erixxx-595-7008012 October 2013
When I saw the pilot, I was hugely disappointed. Crap acting, unbelievable and light weight plot, poor dialogs.

Then I saw the second episode... It is a downfall from the first. They actually made it worse. Who writes this stuff? Who produces it? Who wants to star in it? It feels so cheap, in every way possible. Nobody made the slightest attempt of presenting you with a proper TV show that is worth watching. This in a time when there are so many great TV shows. Maybe it would have worked in the eighties, when we were watching The A-Team and Dukes of Hazard.

What a shame. This should be just as good as The Avengers. Instead it is just as good as Twilight.

I will stop watching this show. I advise you to do the same.
