Very Impressive Beginning To the Fastest Man Alive
ThomasDrufke7 October 2014
Well as long as it has taken for Warner Bros to develop more of there DC characters into film, I'm glad we are finally getting to see The Flash, even if it is on television. First off, the show looks fantastic and I don't think we have to worry about it being a 'television budget' for special effects. The pilot really worked and is easily better than the Gotham pilot. Grant Gustin was great as Barry Allen and there were plenty of easter eggs for us nerds to geek out about.

The first episode involves Barry adjusting to his powers and working with Star labs to find out exactly what's happening to him. I thought Cisco and Caitlin were funny and more well written than their introductions in Arrow. Harrison Wells was also a better character than expected. I just wish we didn't find out what we did about him in the end of this episode. In Arrow they do a great job of developing a character first to make us care deeply about them, and then give us an interesting twist or a season changing story arc. The Flash can learn but the last scene could have just been handled a little more carefully.

Gustin really stood out which was nice to see based on how little he has done acting wise. His scene with Oliver was the highlight of the episode. Not only because I was geeking out that it was Green Arrow and The Flash on screen but because of what Oliver said. When he's talking about how Barry can be a hero like he never could be it really hit me. And how much Arrow has gone through in his short time being Arrow and how much we as an audience have witnessed. Oliver just wants to make sure Barry doesn't make some of the same mistakes that he did. I still hate the Flash suit, but I can get over it at least for this episode because of how great it was.

+Visually stunning for TV

+Gustin's presence

+Supporting characters not THAT annoying

+Flash and Arrow scene

+Easter eggs and teases as to what's coming

-Just don't give away too much in the first episode

-Suit

Lots Of Fun!
Jdmaxgaming4 December 2014
I didn't expect much out of The Flash. I already didn't like Arrow, and when I heard it was from the same creators as Arrow, I knew that this show wasn't going to be anything special. But I gave it a shot, and man am I glad I did! The show is very fast-paced, and is a bucket of fun! Cars flipping in the air, Flash doing his cool moves, and a great villain! What a way to kick off the first episode! The whole episode is extremely rushed, purposely done by the writers so that we can get to the main story. And while a lot of people seem to dislike that part of the show, I actually enjoyed it. Most shows these days bore you to death with the origin story, with out letting you get to the main point, but this show jumps right in! I LOVE IT! Acting is Superb! Grant Gustin does the best portrayal of The Flash yet! Overall, this episode was fantastic! It wasn't perfect, but if it continues like this, we might have ourselves a keeper! - Jdmax

2020.5.22 Because of the pandemic ,the seson6 has to be cut short. So I go back to this episode to watch this again.I have to say it's epic : special effects, plot ,actors and actresses all things i can ever imagine. But i just don't get understand why the follwing seasons are getting worse, although some episodes are still marvelous. I really hope directors can find their original aspirations again!

Great Spin off from an Arrow Character.
mcandy-318-3557677 October 2014
When watching the Arrow this guy popped up in a few episodes, he was a real likable character and actor, then suddenly a scene in a lab and no more was he seen. Left with a wait for him to return it seemed he had maybe been written out and another good character lost from the Arrow.

Fortunately this was Arrow's loss and The Flash's gain. :) In the first episode there is some visual help to connect the two.

I scored this 10 because the Character is much easier to relate too, and a much more likable person. This has the feel good factor of Smallville, and a slight taste of the Arrow, though not the over kill and sometimes violent fight scenes. So will be more appealing to Men, Women and Families.

It is a real treat for all that this has made it pass its pilot stage.

A very "fast" episode
SpoodermanDerp8 October 2014
The Flash opens with a very fast paced plot. Barry Allen is already a developed grown up as the episode begins, however the origins are further explained as the narrative advances. The episode did not stop for any more explanation, Barry is immediately hit by lightning and from there the plot continues. The skills are introduced, characters with utmost significance to the narrative that will be seen in later episodes are introduced. Although the Pilot somewhat fails on making a lasting impression. The episode starts with an unusual pace for the most part, but it gets my interest as the episode plays out. There were some scenes that were done great, some scenes that were dull but forgivable. The tone is very light and it was a great introduction to Flash. The episode kind of reminded me of Marvel movies. Does not take a serious tone, loads of fun and great handling to the character which might explain why I enjoyed it as much as possible.

A good recommendation to those who want to have no clue or have limited knowledge about who Barry Allen or The Flash is.

Although not the best Pilot episode. It is fun, thrilling and entertaining to watch. As the series develops I think more and more will grow to like the show.

Verdict: 7.6/10

An electric pilot.
abdabeat6 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The Flash season 1 starts off with a great episode. The story building and character introductions are done seamlessly and the story seems to move at a decent paste, this episode truly captures the awe of the story of Barry Allen. However, some rather boring moments and some staleness prevent this episode from being higher then 8.

City of Heroes
SpideyVerse2320 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
In case anyone gets confused about the review name, I know its the name of Arrow S2Ep1 but it really applied in this episode.

We get sort of re-introduced to Barry, Cisco and Caitlin after their appearance in Arrow, and get introduced to Barry's adopted father Joe West, his step sister/crush Iris West, owner of Star Labs Harrison Wells who carries a lot of twists with him and Barry's father Henry Allen.

This is a great premiere which establishes a lot of things and it has great visual effects, which isn't something I expected.

This episode establishes that this show is tonally different from Arrow since its very light and humourous with the entire cast contributing to the comedy.

it was a pretty good episode for a pilot
yashvarde28 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is the first episode of flash. Let's see how it is. Well…… the build up to the superpowers took some time and it was kind of boring. I mean Berry chases after a guy who steels his best friends purse which was good to see and it was weird but it was not anything fabulous and it builds up to nothing. It basically has a very slow build up because we have to wait about like fifteen minutes out of forty to actually see the powers appear. That is basically one problem I do have with this episode. Another one would be how Iris's dad doesn't believe Berry when he tells him the truth about Martin being able to control the storm but her father apologizes at the end so that's good. The rest of the episode is awesome! Heck it even has the green arrow guy played by Oliver queen he's from another series called arrow and he does a splendid job with everything. Then the way flash stops the tornado from Martin was action packed and in a really neat way. It had my jaw drop for a very long time. Then just the overall story of how flash gets his powers is really good. I do need to point out another flaw where everyone tells Berry he's not a hero and he's just a person who got shocked by the shock wave. If he wasn't a hero he wouldn't have saved anyone. But Martin is a bad ass awesome character in this episode I think he does really well with the storms and tornado. Everything was well done by him. So there are a lot of things right here which makes it fun to watch. It has a few problems but really it has great action so you can forget about them mostly. This is pretty good for the first episode of this season and show I was quite impressed. There are moments which are painful and out of place dialog but if you like action then this is an episode I recommend that you should watch. You see the first episode of a show has to make you interested in it. Will this episode interest you? Yeah for the most part.

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Pilot
lbramson10 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The show starts with a VERY, VERY great premiere! This episodes follows CSI Barry Allen whose mom was murdered and his dad was framed. While investigating, he gets struck by lightning and doused in chemicals putting him in a coma and turning him into the Flash. This was a flawless introduction to our favorite characters: Cisco, Caitlin and Harrison Wells, who...well...you know. What an interesting origin story and amazing start to my favorite show! God, I sure do miss the style of the first few seasons which truly shines especially within this pilot with things that never returned. This episode also has iconic moments like the Run, Barry, Run speech. What a perfect, phenomenal pilot episode! Hopefully they can keep it up, 9/10!

Fast moving opener starts off strong
Fluke_Skywalker28 March 2016
Moving nearly as fast as its title character, this pilot episode of DC's 'The Flash' feels, ironically enough, a bit rushed at times. Nevertheless, it sets up everything (and there's a lot to set up) nicely and delivers an opener with just the right amounts of humor, drama, mystery, action and heart. I do think it would have benefited from a more traditional pilot movie, but in the end it's a minor quibble.

Featuring a likable lead in Grant Gustin and a strong supporting cast, this first episode of 'The Flash' is one that I never felt compelled to, uh, fast forward.

A sad experience
SongOfFall23 May 2015
Thankfully, there was less "Twilight" in this one, than in "The Amazing Spiderman", but still, it's way too fake. The problem is, like the beginning of the Bronze Age of comic books, the series is looking for cultural relevance. I understand they have a budget and need ratings and $$, but when the overall quality of the series suffers, it's not an excuse.

"The Flash" lacks personality. Before starting the first episode, I watched the direct-to-video "Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox". "Flashpoint Paradox" wasn't amazing; it was clichéd and predictable. But it was fun to watch, and it had a story to tell. And it moved me. "The Flash" failed. Actually, it failed the very moment twerking was mentioned. There's enough twerking in the world without it entering superhero comic book adaptations, goddammit. This is escapist stuff, it should have that feeling, atmosphere. The stuff those dumb "Kick- Ass" comics and movies lack. A soul. Class. Imagine Batman in JLU singing "Wrecking Ball" instead of "Am I Blue?".

Instead I get an origin story mostly copied from Sam Raimi's 2002 "Spiderman".

I'm still going to give this show a chance, they say it gets better later on. But seeing how Green Arrow was portrayed - pretty sure I'm not wasting my time on Arrow.

It was... a sad experience. I had high expectations.

Decent pilot
khamenkm472 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I actually enjoyed this pilot episode of the flash, it is way better than other pilots. There are a lot of detaila and things added to this episode, the past, the particle accelerator, the man in yellow, and this episode was probably hard to make because as the series evolves there are way more details about that night, past and future. Its not really easy to think of a concept like this. About this episode, I personally think that its end boosted it a lot, the way he took mardon down impressed me, and Barry showing Joe that the impossible is actually not impossible. Anyways, this one has an 8 from me.

A missed opportunity
benmcq10 April 2020
I feel the pilot is always a chance to grab people who aren't from the comics or other DC shows attention and get them hooked but they've failed to do so here. No glaring issues but no moments where you think to yourself I've found my next show to sink my teeth into. I'll be watching the whole show because I've come across from Arrow but if this was my first DC show the next 2 episodes would have to step it up.
