Really? This is Buenos Aires?? / bis
magdalenasaenz9 November 2013
I totally agree with Leandro. With everything: location, characterization, music. You even pronounce the names wrong. The stress in Perez is in the first E. This episode was clearly not shot in Buenos Aires given that the filming sets are totally inaccurate (From the details above, I see the filming location is 20th Century Fox Studios in California). The aerials are of Buenos Aires, but the rest is not. An orange "radio taxi"?? Buenos Aires is famous for its black and yellow cabs!!! And the license plates of the cars... almost, almost right... yes they are black and white, but the pattern is three letters space three numbers... LOOOOOOOOVE the show. This won't make me stop watching, but please, make some more research for the next one!!!

Geography problems?
rebekah_gq4 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Please, someone correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the 'Plaza de Armas' of Cusco (Peru) shown as a part of Buenos Aires on minute 18 of the episode? Well, one more thing to add to the lists of 'this is not Buenos Aires'!

I will keep watching it, but I have to admit that is getting harder to ignore massive mistakes like this one.

Wrong music, wrong accent, wrong scenario... It's distracting and disturbing!!

And btw how much older than Christie is Angela's son supposed to be? You would imagine that they would look happier to see her online when she was at the lab and would like to say hello to her... Poor kid, being ignored once again, like on their wedding ;)

Puerto Rico?
natalielaguer25 April 2020
I recognize many of the places they filmed at as Puerto Rico. On one of the scenes, they added in flags from Argentina with photoshop but I recognize where I've walked before. This is probably disrespectful to Argentinians as well, so you might have as well filmed in Puerto Rico. The music I also recognize. I did like seeing places I've been in before on TV, but just stating facts. There are some areas that I am not sure about, but I haven't been everywhere on the island. Overall, I love the Bones series, and just thought I should share what I know.

Really? This is Buenos Aires?
inkel5 November 2013
I am someone born and grown in Buenos Aires, and trust me, I've never seen most of the places they're depicting. The plot might be interesting, but to get a famous city depicted SO wrong is, at the very least, disrespectful.

The characters are quite alright, though their personalities aren't very Argentinian.

This show is based in an anthropologist as the main character, and yet they totally screwed up people looks and manners.

Also, the music is Cuban, not Argentinian. I mean, come on, people! Really?

I love the show, but this is too much.

Most of these episodes was film in San Juan, Puerto Rico and I did not see the credits for that. I like the program and I love the form of Booth change and did not correct the people thinking from the novel was writing by Bones. the form how Brenan change his honeymoon to discover a murder and the form of Booth try to help her and made her happy. I love the childcare from Angela and the Dr. care them and when she said I want another. the form all the team try to help Brenan and thinking she did not change and never will change. for me the final is not a surprise but good. I will prefer more view from Puerto Rico and they was used some actors from PR but is not possible right now I hope in the future see at least one chapter film here or some murdered involve Puerto Rico. thanks again for wonderful TV series.

This is not Buenos Aires
valecarella27 November 2013
I find it amazing what I'm seeing. I was born and I live in Argentina and everything shown in this episode is incorrect. Around the government house, the cars, the music, the names of the characters, the accent when speaking Spanish, the doctor does not even have Argentine accent. I think you believe that Mexico, Argentina and other Spanish-speaking country are the same. I really like the series, but this chapter would have needed more research. It was very difficult to finish watching the episode without paying attention to these details.I think if you are going to based a chapter on the history and location of any place you need correct information.

I feel insulted
fmanresa9 June 2014
As an Argentine I feel insulted by what American think of Argentina and its people, and to a certain extent of every Latin American person. Everything on this episode is SO wrong, the music, the accent, the places, the cars, the architecture, the people, event the license plate on the cars. Shame on you FOX and everyone involved in this episode. I really can't believe it. How about some tango or folklore instead of that rubbish music you pick for the episode, apart from song. The only thing that's right about the episode is the fact that a lot of Nazis fled to Argentina after the war. For a show where the main character prides herself of being accurate about every single little fact, you should have done some research!

Totally wrong
marianaazevedof13 January 2022
Again, not all countries in Latin America are the same! Buenos Aires is a big city, with all characteristics! Gray, full of buildings, no tropical beaches. US Americans disregard for Latin American is a signal of stupidity and indifference. This is a matter of a simple research, again! Do the producers ever heard of Google?! Is a good research tool. That indifference, ignorance is a reflection of the US educational system? Or the US citizens simply doesn't even care about us.

Would research have hurt?
virginiasps23 November 2021
I know this series has not be on the air for a long time but I had to say something. This episode shows a lot of ignorance. Visiting Buenos Aires is like visiting London, New York, City, Chicago, even Havana before the Communists destroyed it, and many other cosmopolitan cities. First indication it was going wrong was the music. Tango for Argentina, please! Then, they had buildings painted garish colors, that's not B. A. Next, Bones and Booth, lounging by a pool as if they were in the Caribean. Buenos Aires is not a resort! Then, Booth dressed in loud shorts and shirt with a sun hat when visiting the morgue! Buenos Aires is not Honolulu! The wedding took place in D. C. in the summer, they went to honeymoon in Buenos Aires and it was summer there also! When it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere! As much as I like the series, I didn't finish watching this episode and I am not from Argentina! I abhor the ignorance. The nonsense of calling us all Hispanics because we speak the same language without considering different countries, different cultures, different people leads to this.

Totally ignorance from the makes of this episode.
argento1001 January 2014
EVERY SINGLE THING in this episode is WRONG!. Im tired of US showing Argentina like we are a bunch of Mexicans who speak like Mexican and live in a tropical climate...

Just looking first 10 minutes:

Buenos Aires is depict with sunny beaches and blue sea. Buenos Aires city has no beaches, is a template region with humidity winters and summers and no one chose it as a vacation's destiny. Hundreds of KM to the south there is the Atlántic Coast vacation's city's, with gray and very cold water even in summer. And the sand is brown.

The music!!!. WTF!!!. Buenos Aires is the born place of Tango!!!, and yet they show like Argentina is a tropical country where there is merengue and salsa everywhere?!!!. WE ARE NOT LIKE CARIBEANS NOR CENTRAL Americans, NOTHING IN COMMON. People here listen Rock (international and national, the only real rock in Latin America), tango, traditional folklore some and the low mass cumbia.

The morgue... WTF again... you think that only United States has machines?... any forensic morgue is equipped with modern machines... despite US ignorance thinking Argentina is like Juarez city, we are a highly developed country compared to any other nation in the region and we have access to any kind of technology... for all the gods, an expensive NASA instrument is in an Argentina built satellite and Australia has a nuclear reactor built by Argentine INVAP, Canadian hydro electrical plants use giant generator built by Argentine company IMPSA.

The people... always showing Mexicans look like as Argentina is like Mexico... 80% of population of Argentina is white, 64% pure Europeans, and the mestizos in our population are nothing alike Mexicans. You walk in any street of Argentina an you will see more white proportion than in NY. Is not a racist thing, but i don't like that the movies and TV shows Argentina as we all are Mexicans.

The speak... WE Don't SPEAK LIKE THE OTHER LATINS, we ARE COMPLETELY Different IN SPEECH, our slang is more rich and wide thanks to Italian, polish, English, German, french, Russian, Sirya immigrants. And we talk in IMPERATIVE way, to us, the rest of Latin Americans seems too weak in their way of talk, we speak like giving orders. We want say "puedes pasarme eso, por favor" (can you give me that please) we would say "dáme eso" (give me that). We don't say "tú", we say VOS, etc, etc, etc. Rioplatense castillian is a very different and complex dialect.

The police... in Argentina police dress in black and dark blue... not in light brown...

The "desaparecidos". They are called disappeared cause they are in the situation, the military junta disappeared em, you cant find em, they are gone forever. The terrorist and the suspected or opositor people was disappeared in many ways, some of them is trowing em to the sea from air force cargo planes, you will never find em. Others were simply converted in pig food or ashes, you cant find em, thats why they are disappeared...

And this is just in the first minutes.

I like Bones but this chapter really drove me mad.

Simple wrong
musica-carilin16 April 2014
Worst episode I've ever seen. I'm always so amaze of the research aspect in this series but this episode is just a joke. I've been in Buenos Aires countless times and it look nothing like that, that was like show Iowa and then say it New York. Argentina has 98% European descendants, Buenos Aires is really modern and has just a few Spanish buildings (most of them from the colonial time and not in use), the police uniforms are blue unlike the light brown we all know from Mexico, also like our corrupt police, I'm pretty sure, theirs, are more into the last model SUV's some German label (is not Cuba) and more important when in the US is summer, in Argentina is winter and as you can read in Wikipedia, they have really cold winters. I'm ashamed because I used to be a super fan of Bones and this are thing you can research only by using Google, you don't even have to go to the place. If you want to show an cliché for uneducated Americans, why even bother to say is other country, there are Nazis everywhere.

Study geography guys
jbuchana-211995 October 2018
Just that. Apparently Buenos Aires is in the Caribbean and Argentina borders with Cuba. Having lived in Buenos Aires for many years, i find it oitragepus that they simply don't give an F about the setting's culture. The only real images of Buenos Aires are those shown at the beggining. Nothing is as pictured in the show. There are no beaches or waterfalls, it doesn't have a tropical weather (actually winters can be really cold), architecture is completely different, with no shiny pastel colours, and cars look like everywhwre else. Last but not least, argentines don't have the classic latino look, the most common surnames are italian and they are much whiter, as their ancestry is mostly european. Awfully depicted, a real shame how misleading is the impression the show gives of a city i came to love so much.

Only one Argentine song
tomchak14 April 2017
Just a note--there was a song by an Argentine singer, Mercedes Sosa, and the song was by Chilean Violeta Parra. Otherwise, some tango music would have been nice. I am also a fan of "Bones" and of Kathy Reichs' series of detective novels, but this one was problematic. Glad to see the "dirty war" examined on a popular TV show, and the Nazi escape to Latin America, but should have been more carefully presented. It's like how Antonio Banderas, a Spaniard, plays Pancho Villa, and Ruben Blades, a Panameñan, plays a Mexican policeman in other movies.

Waterfalls full of pig s#1t?
luiyo762 March 2018
Have Bones producers and writers ever visited the Iguazu Falls? If they do the may find out the most beautiful falls in the whole hemisphere, way more beautiful than the Niagara Falls. Bit I guess they prefer to be disrespectful to a foreign country and make fool of themselves at the same time.

HOW IGNORANT WE Americans ARE
accavuto3 January 2016
Hi...Argentine immigrant (50 years ago)....please people, basic research is a must prior to producing material for public consumption! Argentina, for better or worse, is a country of European immigrants with a specific dialect...the only Argentine on the show was the young wife (yeah!)...although I enjoy the series, and the actor playing the cop (portuguese which Argentina has)...come on...the inner city scene with Latin music and dark mestizos (yes, Argentina has had a huge influx of indigenous neighbors)is not typical! Everyone is proud of their culture and we wish for it to be depicted CORRECTLY. As a public school educator, the argument that geography is not taught in school is very accurate-so, our media should bear some responsibility to enlighten us with facts.Chau

Research, it exists.
got_laura23 June 2020
I LOVE this show. But this episode was INSULTING. I can't believe you didn't do any research before making this episode. It's not even to hard, just looking at pictures and reading a little about Argentina you would notice you were getting pretty much EVERYTHING wrong!!! I can't believe this episode!

This episode was confusing and anger inducing.
innisandre12 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I know a lot of people here are angry over the Puerto Rico for Argentina Hollywood tomfoolery. I agree, terrible, but not what made me angry.

My anger stems from these two going to a foreign country and deciding we should help capture this horrible horrible person.

Are they going to capture a Nazi? No they help capture the person that killed the Nazi. This is explained away because a Jewish person shows up to say how it was terrible and they would never ever do that.

It's like this episode was written in an alternate universe. So I submit to you, a superior ending: Booth: "Well, looks like we didn't find any evidence of who did this murder. I guess they'll get away with it." Bones: "What do you mean Booth? We discovered tons of evidence and it's clearly..." Booth: "Shut your stupid Aspergery mouth Bones!"

and end scene.

Just Not Very Good
Hitchcoc25 February 2023
To start with, Brennan is almost sickening at times. She is so full of herself and so clueless as to the feelings of others, it isn't even funny. Her treatment of that woman is inexcusable. Can one imagine what her little girl will be like? Booth puts up with so much when it comes to her rudeness. It is his honeymoon too. It would be like marrying an auto mechanic and spending your honeymoon in an auto shop. Also, the Nazi thing would be an international incident. If that's a Van Gogh in that room, it would, first of all, be worth millions. Secondly, it was probably stolen from a European museum or from a Jewish collector. I saw no joy in this episode and every time Brennan seems to get more human, she is coddled and made to be more tiresome.

Notorious
oovag14 February 2021
US-Americans are notorious for their handling of history. This is understandable, there is nothing to be proud of. But for dealing with something like Majdanek, a little seriousness would be desirable.

Bad bad very bad
thosnod30 August 2022
Stereotypes stereotypes and very smart white people helping poor ignorant Latinos. I will never understand the need for US series to do these "white savior" type episodes. And that without taking into account how badly they recreate places, customs and people. Does anyone seriously believe that this place is Buenos Aires? Can anyone believe that these characters are Argentine? The whole episode is nonsense. This series has really weak episodes but few are as bad as this one. No wonder so many people in the US think that all of Latin America is a single homogeneous and indistinguishable country.

The worst episode ever.
machunita27 October 2023
Like always, USA shows said the characters travel to a country, and the showrunners don't look up anything about that particular country. Argentina it's in Latin America, yes, but not all the latin America countries are the same. And latin America it's definitely not the same of Centro Cmerica. We are not Cuba (I love Cuba's culture, but we are not alike) The show said they are in Buenos Aires, but the actors don't speak like us, actually when Bones speak spanish sounds more Argentina than the "Argentina" people. The music it's not from Argentina. Buenos Aires do not have a beach. Every little detail it's just wrong. And the fact that Bones (Brennan) it's a forensic anthropology make it all worst.
