Will you forgive me ?

Warning: Spoilers
If you think Bryan Fuller did a bad thing revealing the big showdown between Jack and Hannibal right at the start of the season then get ready to be proved wrong because what comes after is more shocking than anything that has happened this far in season 2. Everything about this finale is just perfect, from the ticking music indicating that time is almost up to the shocking conclusion that is an absolute blood bath (literally). Hannibal ends in a way that leaves you emotionally scarred yet hungry for more. What is more excellent about this finale is that had the series been canceled it would have worked great as a series finale too, but THANK GOD it didn't. And one more thing, just make sure you watch the after credit scene, because it will surely blow your mind..! Ciao!

This is the clearest moment in our friendship.

Warning: Spoilers
Wow. At the time of writing this I have watched Mizumono 3 Times and no doubt I will be watching it again come the final few weeks before Season 3. Bryan Fuller has done a magnificent job of fulfilling Hannibal as the superior standout show on TV. I will be very surprised and disgusted if Hannibal fails to be nominated for at least 3 Emmys (It has to be a contender for best Show Best Actor and Best Episode ! )

As we went into Mizumono the wait that felt like a year as opposed to a week was finally over. To me Mizumono felt like two different episodes rolled into one. The first half was a tense clock ticking build up with a haunting and mind bending score as we firmly awaited Jack and Hannibals big fight. The second part felt like a slasher movie done right as one by one Hannibal took out all the people that stood in his way to his freedom. The suspense kept on building and building until perhaps most heartbreaking of all the final interaction between Will and Hannibal. Yes the Abigail twist was a nice one but a small bit expected but the fact that Hannibal after all this time showed true emotion was mesmerizing. Everything about that scene was wonderfully done.

Mads Mikkelson has portrayed Hannibal Lecter the way he needed to be portrayed a psychopath who does have the ability to show emotion. All it took was a little push from Will for Hannibal to ironically feel betrayed. The fact that Hannibal made a true friend in Will only for him to discover he never killed Freddie Lounds in the first place was agonising for Hannibal. So not only did Will suffer his own unfortunate stabbing so did Abigail. Hannibal did the most intelligent thing he could do. He gave Abigail back to Will - and took her away just as soon as she reappeared. Heartbreak for Will. A sense of Heartbreak for Hannibal but most importantly the finale has managed to evoke Heartbreak in us fans.

So for know we leave Hannibal with this. Will Alana Jack and Abigail's fates remain uncertain and will remain so until episode 2 of season 3. Hannibal has fled the country with none other than His own psychiatrist Bedelia DaMaurier. Hannibal has boldly finished its season off by doing what few shows have managed to do successfully. They've managed to evoke a bloodbath and presumably kill off not 1 but 4 of our main characters.

Say why you will about Hannibal up to this point. There's no doubt Mizumono is undoubtedly a perfect episode. It's left me hungry for more.

When The Moment Comes, Will You Do What Needs To Be Done????
wandernn1-81-6832745 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
We arrive at the Season Finale. Where anything can happen!!!!!

Begin with Lecter penning a lovely invitation to Jack Crawford. It's time for a nice dinner Jack!!!! Switch to Lecter and Graham having a sit down session. Such a masterfully coordinated sequence, Lecter, Graham, and Crawford.

+1 Star yet again for the beautifully scripted and acted opening sequence.

Switch to Graham back at his House where he's having another one of his visions. Of The Stag.

Then Lecter is with Crawford's wife, giving her comfort on her dying bed. Kudos to Gina Torres for her performance in this role. She's done a lot of great roles and currently has a great one in Westworld.

A meeting follows between Lecter and Graham. Discussing the exit, that 'they' will make from the FBI and Jack Crawford. Lecter even hints at life in Italy, perhaps giving Graham the information he needs to plan for things to come. Lecter obviously has an admiration of Graham, even if he really still doesn't fully trust Graham. Which is smart of Lecter of course. He is right to not trust anyone.

Next to Graham again having dinner with Lecter, where they discuss metamorphosis and insects. And concepts we have of others. Lecter asks Graham if it's really necessary for Crawford to die. As we proceed with the Last Supper.

So Prurnell confronts Crawford and puts him on notice that he's going to be put on 'forced compassionate leave'. Crawford turns over his badge and gun. They are not going to sit still and allow this entrapment against Lecter. So odd isn't it?? Since we know the DOJ loves to illegally spy on and entrap people. They've committed multiple felonies in reality to do so, even against Presidents and their administrations.

Prurnell meets with Dr Bloom, and Bloom tells Prurnell that she's going to arrest both Crawford and Graham. Bloom then spills the beans to Graham, warning him. Graham then calls Lecter, tipping him off to the wheels are turning on arresting all of them.

+1 Star for the machinations at work.

Crawford shows up at Lecter's, Lecter being in the perfect place, preparing food in the kitchen. After thanking each other for a great friendship, Crawford and Lecter enter combat, picking up from where we started in episode 1 of this season. This is truly a fantastic fight, with both men trying to kill their friend.

+1 Star for the very intense fight between Lecter and Crawford.

Enter Dr. Bloom, who to her credit is at least strong enough to pull the trigger on Lecter. Unfortunately for her, Lecter took her bullets out of her gun. She runs to the bedroom to get more, and fires blindly at Lecter through the door. Enter into the fray Abigail Hobbs, who is really a Lecter pawn. Thoroughly brainwashed. Abigail shoves the poor Bloom thru the window. As Bloom lies dying, Graham shows up. Graham enters the house, gun in hand. Graham encounters Abigail, and is encountered by Lecter, who Graham asks why Lecter did not leave, after Graham warned him specifically they were coming for him. Lecter tells Graham, and then shows him, why he could n''t leave without Graham.

+1 Star for the magnificence of this scene between Lecter, Graham, and Abigail Some truly great TV here.

Lecter strides out into the rain, past the dying Bloom into the sunset! Oh wait, it is dark! Sorry. Haha. And if Crawford had not been relieved of his duties, surely the FBI cavalry would have been there to back him up. A break in the clouds as the credits start to roll. And some lovely piano accompaniment!!

Epilogue: Big Spoiler!!! Lecter is on a flight, sitting with Dr. Du Maurier!!!! Drinking some champagne.

And this is how we end Season Two. Everyone was bleeding out, save Lecte who has escaped on a plane with Gilian.. Did Everyone Die??? Who knows?????

+1 Star for the ending, to one of the most perfectly crafted season Finales in my recent TV memory. Simply Brilliant. 10/10

The End of a Journey.
zactac23 June 2014
Those who know me also know how I tend to praise "Hannibal" a great deal. Before this episode I viewed it as one of the best shows on TV. However, the season two finale has cemented it (in my opinion) as the best show on TV PERIOD. Yes, there are great shows such as "The Walking Dead" and "Game of Thrones" (both of which I adore) however, "Hannibal" is the perfect combination of terrifying and beauty to create a show unlike anything else on TV.

In the season two finale we find ourselves at the end of a journey. A journey that began in the first episode of season one and has been building itself to this moment. Here Will is on the brink of making the definitive choice to either follow or betray Hannibal. The choice he makes will reverberate throughout the rest of the series and change everything he has ever known.

Bryan Fuller pulls no punches with this epic of a season finale. In a age of network TV shows being painfully held back from their full potential, it is refreshing to see Bryan Fuller and crew be so daring with the second season of Hannibal. The already bigger than life feel of the show is brought in full force to remind us how powerful this show can be.

Of course, it is fantastically written drama. Once again the dialog forces viewers to pay attention otherwise they will become lost in the pure sophistication of the story. Instead, if we as normal people can keep up, we become lost in a completely different way. One where we are entranced by the story while scratching our heads.

They are able to deftly blend in themes of codependency (the dangers and healthiness of it) and forgiveness into one event; culminating with these themes completely exploding on one another. Codependency ends up destroying lives more than it creates them and forgiveness still leads to retribution. We see the downfalls of both themes and just how connected they both are. Instead of shoving these themes into our faces, as viewers, we are treated with more respect than that. They trust that we can dwell on the ideas, think on them more, till finally we come to our own conclusions. Expertly done all around.

These themes also come to us through the use of imagery. And on the season finale they make fine use of how they mix both beauty and horror into one thing to make something that is beautiful yet provoking in a startling way. This can be seen especially through the use of water in the episode. Water comes with many metaphors and the metaphors here are clear and beautiful to the eye. One metaphor deals with death (the idea of drowning, being lost in darkness) and the other is about being reborn (such as Christians being baptized, being cleansed of sins; leaving behind the pain and onto something more). Both of these metaphors are beautifully shown throughout the episode with some of the most amazing imagery the show has ever done. This is truly unique to TV and it is on the level of filmmaking quality.

Of course we get some of the best performances the actors have ever done on this show. Hugh Dancy takes the final steps towards Will's inevitable choice. Will appears to know what he'll do (and he does for the most part) but when the time calls for it, he doesn't seem sure anymore. Then this is matched with Mads Mikkelsen to create some of the best work the two do together. Mads Mikkelsen brings new faces to Hannibal Lecter by showcasing him as the evil monster he truly is but also allowing him to be vulnerable. He has found a friend in Will unlike anything he ever thought possible and now he is faced with the possibility he is being betrayed. Something he does not want to deal but must in the end.

Through the use of a ticking clock type soundtrack the intensity is constantly building throughout the episode. From the very first scene to the final after-credits epilogue (which must be seen). The suspense is never-ending and when it does end, it feels like you've become numb with disbelief.

This is excellent quality television to the highest degree. I have never been so awed by a TV season finale as I have been with this one. It is terrifying, beautiful, thought-provoking, wonderfully acted, and just all together amazingly put together. "Hannibal" really raised the bar with this game-changing finale that leaves everything in the air for next season. This is, in my opinion, the best season finale to ever be done for ANY TV show as of right now. I cannot wait for season three to start so I can find the madness again.

The episode that inmortalizes Hannibal Lecter as one of the best characters in tv history
ste_palom22 October 2018
So I had doubts about watching this show, but I was very interested in watching this episode. So I started watching and I liked it from episode one. Both season 1 and 2 were incredible even before watching Mizumono, but when I finished watching I was just in shock. Then only tv episode that has shocked me more is Ozymandias from Breaking Bad( which is the greatest tv episode I have ever seen). Mizumono takes every aspect that makes this show work and elevates it to the extreme. The build up to the final confrontation is fantastic. The direction is incredible. The symbolism is simple the best from all episodes I have seen so far. The gore is so extreme that is disgusting and scary but it works because of the nature of the events that take place in this episode and the nature of the character of Hannibal Lecter. There were so many shocking scenes that I literally felt like I was just one more of the preys that Hannibal was hunting. The last 15 minutes are some of the best moments in tv history.

Silent of the Lambs might always be considered the best movie about Hannibal Lecter and it is still the best for me, but Mizumono is a very VERY close second. If the character of Hannibal Lecter was already inmortal because of Silent of the Lambs, then Mizumono just reaffirm just how terrific this character is. Simple brilliant.

The Finale which will blow your Mind !
miheer-rawal26 May 2014
Well, the finale was unacceptable, unbelievable, shocking, mind-blower and unimaginable. I was not able to take my dinner after this magnificent Climax. Mads, The one and Only Dr. Hannibal, played a role which you have never ever seen in your life (Of course, we can't compare the act of Joker, played by Heath Ledger with that, but can still keep it in parallel). The End comes with one upon another shocking moments, which for the viewer is tremendously hard to believe, see and accept !! Its hard to say that how Directors and writers are going to come up with the new Season of Hannibal in 2015. But, I am sure, whatever they will make, it will bring you the goosebumps ! Be prepared. I would like to give 12 out of 10 to this episode (2 points for the dialogue delivery and the magnificent act of Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. Lector) Well, Thank you very much writers and Direction for giving a beautiful O' Henry Climax.

Something rarely seen on TV
PaulSmuts25 May 2014
The finale was in one word: Amazing. Mads Mikkelson was great and delivered his best performance of the series thus far. Fight scenes aren't usually my favorite part of any movie or episode but this one with Jack and Hannibal was done superbly. I got so into it I though Jack will successfully strangle Hannibal and forgot about the glass to neck part which was also shown back in episode one of this season. I don't think there was anyone who missed the after credit seen as they were in too much shock and remained staring at the screen as the credits rolled. This is a crucial part thinking a head to season 3. This episode was a visually amazing 40 minutes with top class acting all round. I can't wait to see where things go from here!

Revenge is a dish served cold.
manja200524 May 2014
Yes,revenge is a dish served cold, but not like this, this is Arctic level cold,or rather the 'Snowpiercer' type nuclear winter cold.Too much awesomeness is packed into one episode. A very intense season comes to an end with the fireworks of this finale episode. Hannibal, since its very first episode has been appreciated for its the dark nature of story telling, albeit slow, the story really picks up pace in the second season, accelerates to a breakneck pace somewhere in the middle of the second season and just explodes into smithereens at the end. The result is,oh so fantastic. Alright, let me draw some comparisons here, for the people who watch Game of Thrones and not this show ,this episode is on par with 'Rains of Castamere' and 'The Lion and the Rose' in terms of shock value, and let me add this too,Hannibal is,to put it simply,is THE serial killer, who makes Dexter look like a circus clown. To end this review, when you begin to watch Hannibal, remind yourself to watch 'Silence of the Lambs' occasionally.Although,Sir Anthony Hopkins was rather brilliant in his portrayal of the eponymous serial killer,Mads Mikkelsen is on his way and is coming rather close to being known all over the world for his performance as Hannibal.

The Last Supper
jessica-sousa124 May 2014
"Mizumo" did not pay much attention to Hannibal's culinary talents, since the episode itself was the last dish served this season. All the flavours and exquisiteness condensed into a single course, served with the astonishing visuals of a surreal masterpiece and Mads Mikkelsen's superb acting. Every episode this season was executed with a graceful pace that led the storyline into the right direction, while taking its time to absorb and explore the immense complexity of Hannibal's views on life and death. The finale started with that same pacing until it transformed into an agonising count down to the end. Everything was done masterfully, from the usual stunning surreal visuals to the music that evoked the ticking of a clock, from which both the characters and the viewer could not escape. Until it happened and the surprises filled our palates with an explosion of surprises and bitter revelations. This breathtaking culmination of events was unexpected and shocking, but it was not on this that the real magnificence laid. The skill and unique sophistication of how each and every element was executed was unprecedented in television. The true surprise lies on how the show's art department continues to exceed itself, by honouring the world's most charismatic psychopath. Everything in the show (and specially in this episode) complements the idea of a harmonious balance in the beauty of life and death. Hannibal is more but a mere serial killer. He is the ultimate artist and the world is his canvas. His brush is death; and Bryan Fuller's is Hannibal. The credits served as pack of ice to soften the wound made by the slap that the rest of episode delivered. Such a peaceful, melodic conclusion to a traumatic, exhilarating episode. Just like a digestif after a strong, yet exquisite, meal. I must say, it did open my appetite for next season.

Mind-blowing.. Heart-breaking: A Revelation!!!
neflameriem23 November 2017
I have never watched something this absorbing before.. This episode must be one of the best TV moments I have ever witnessed. It was a revelation to me: Hannibal unveiled! His complicated character puzzled me for two seasons but now I can see him and I am baffled, I never expected that! Bryan Fuller managed to make us empathize with Hannibal and Mads Mikkelsen with his mesmerizing, devilish and unique interpretation of Dr Lector was able to play with our minds and steal our souls. Forget about everything you want or plan to watch, there is nothing like Hannibal out there, it is a work of art and intellect that you should not miss.

Hugely disappointing end to the season.
Honeyforddave1134 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler Warning.

After starting the season strongly I feel like the end few episodes lost their way. Zero pay off for Jack accepting Hannibal is the ripper, felt jumbled and shoddy. Should have had him make the realisation himself rather than just finally believing Will. Also the Verger plot seemed unfinished.

Such a shame as season 2 had been really good, the stuff with Beverly and the mosaic killer was great. Let down hugely by the finale, very anticlimactic.

Will watch season 3 but don't have as much interest now. The acting is brilliant throughout but the plot lost it's way.

Disappointing Conclusion
paintedlaughter-5629016 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This series is focusing more and more on glorifying the evil inside of the psychopath, and less and less on good triumphing over evil, or on justice. It's getting increasingly difficult to like any of the characters, especially since they constantly make stupid decisions. IRONICALLY, given the superior intellect that is supposedly Hannibal's, the only way to enjoy this series - and especially this season - and ESPECIALLY this episode - is to completely turn off one's common sense. Don't ponder why the police haven't arrived yet after multiple calls for help and arrest warrants already issued. Don't wonder why Alana, a generally intelligent woman, continually ignores all guidance she receives from her peers, including Hannibal himself. Don't wonder why Will doesn't tell the girl to run when Hannibal calls her to him. Turn off your brain and maybe you'll be able to enjoy this macabre "faux intellectual" series. Like Hannibal said, "Choose to be blind." 😉

(Thankfully, season 3 does better if you can get past the first episode.)

Televisions Finest Moment
badmanlykme2 August 2018
Mizumono in my opinion is the greatest episode of television ever made, it's bloody, poetic and the last 10 minutes of the episode was the most intense viewing experience I have ever had.

Mads Mickelsen (Hannibal) gives a award worthy performance and all of the cast do in fact. The visuals and imagery were both beautifal and haunting. This season finale gave us one of the most tragic losses and one of the biggest cliffhangers.

Season 2
shanekraus19 September 2021
This season is tv perfection. The only show on the same level of Hannibal season 2 is mr robot season 3. No other show can touch this season. This finale is easily a top 10 tv episode of all time. If Ozymandias is a 10, this is an 11. WOW, this episode is beautiful, and horrifying in the best way possible. The "bloodfest" track made for this episode is amazing.

Warning: Spoilers
Every time I watch this episode it just gets better. On every rewatch, I gain a new understanding of the characters. Mads Mikkelsen's microexpressions are a delightful treat; he says so much while doing so little. Another favorite moment is Dancy's expression after Hannibal asks "Do you believe you could change me the way I've changed you?" and he replies "I already did." He's so subtly triumphant, even as he bleeds out- he is totally confident that he HAS impacted Hannibal, and he's right. Just perfect acting, cinematography, music, everything! I'll still be talking about how good this episode is when I'm on my deathbed.

What the hell just happened???I mean yeah, this show is all about surprises and the suspense but with more than 5 surprises and cliff hangers in just a single episode beats me.... This shows how talented the writers are for what matters and you just want more of it..just when you think you have figured it out you are served wrong.. This episode clearly have made evil win unless Doctor lecter isn't one.Return of Abigail out of nowhere was one of the few surprises you will encounter in this season finale that will just blow your mind away... A sweet looking dinner served in bitter taste but just excellent. Don't know how many of the character are dead or will survive the next season but you just have to wait to see... A 10 out of 10 episode and a breathtaking finale with more shocks than you can ever imagine..totally shocked

Warning: Spoilers
I have just finished viewing this episode not even 5 minutes ago. This show has already exceeded my standards in story and character development. The cinematography is outstanding. In regards to this particular episode, to have my attention and to captivate my emotions to the extent this episode has is a rare feat. My nails were tearing into the seat on which I was sitting. I'm pretty sure I didn't breathe the last 10 minutes of the episode. I'm utterly at a loss for words to describe how fantastic this episode was. I will always think of this episode as the greatest in televised history. All the intensity that people associate with Game of Thrones has nothing on this.

Great Great Great Ending. Spoilers Don't read from this point on if you have not seen the ending.

Just...WOW. Amazing ending to the season. In my opinion best episode ever. Hannibal is a straight boss cold a ICE. When he killed Abby right in front of Will I literally jumped out of my chair, didn't see that coming. I liked how he kept his word that he would kill her, but back on topic great way to continue the opening fight scene from the beginning of the season as well. I was thinking the entire time wow OK I know what going to happen nothing new here", but the way they added the twists was great and I clapped after watching this master piece of a show. Honestly fantastic show a new favorite can't wait for season three and what the new story will tell.

Warning: Spoilers
It seemed like the producers were much more concerned about the next season than this episode. In the beginning of this series, I was hoping that this would be different than the movies, this episode made sure it would. But the story is now somewhat confusing, not sure what the writer was thinking. Surely producers will love it. So many possibilities open to them now, but this episode, well the dialogs were pretty awesome as usual but sometimes i felt that this slow motion thing is becoming too much, everywhere they try to use this. And about the story, there was one pretty good twist and one total bullshit it seemed to me at the end. All in all, expected much more than this.

The End of Meaning
Nooblethenood18 July 2019
I came to this as a staunch fan of the show, albeit with growing unease over series 2. Where it was originally engaging, interesting, dramatic and always borne through by its particular aesthetic character, as series 2 got under way it became clear that the writers were giving up on character development and interactions that went anywhere. I'd anticipated this episode with the hope that it would reach back into all that and give form to it, but by literally the last episode of the series I wasn't holding out much hope. In any case it threw that out in spectacular fashion.

No motivation needs to exist for the actions of any character at this point, at least that's clearly the writers' position. This is an orgy of superficial aesthetic action. More than that, it's bereft of meaning - I note people talking about how intense and complex and amazing the dialogue and performance are... while not one interaction or statement from any character's lips bears any meaning whatsoever. The writers have become so obsessed with cryptic, supposedly poetic language that it becomes disconnected from anything meaningful and kills all drama. Just because it sounds like poetry doesn't mean it is, and in this instance the inconsequential and, frankly, boringly repetitive dross coming from the mouths of the characters is the end of poetry, the end of drama and the complete dearth of any kind of meaning.

There's an often noted tendency to think that things that are terribly complex and obscure must be terribly clever - usually, I suggest, the opposite is true. This was a sad manifestation of the emperor's new clothes, and I suppose we have to expect more of the same in season 3. It might be worth seeing, for the sake of curiosity, but I suspect this has gone irretrievably far up its own orifice.
