- An L.A. family with serious boundary issues have their past and future unravel when a dramatic admission causes everyone to spill their secrets.
- Adult siblings Sarah, Josh and Ali each receive a telephone call from their father Morton who wants them to have dinner with him at the longtime family home - where Morton lives and which he got to keep in the divorce settlement from the kids' mother, Shelly - so that he can tell them as a collective some big news. The three are rather nonplussed even in their speculation that the news may be something serious like Morton having some major health issue like cancer, which if be the case successful music producer Josh openly talks about what to him is the more important aspect of inheritance. At dinner, Morton cannot tell his children the real reason for convening them, despite a vow made at a support group meeting to do so, as Morton can see that it's not the right time in the three's self-absorbed lives. What Morton does not know about his children's current lives: Sarah has just run into an old flame from college, Tammy, about who she has never told her husband Len; Josh is in a serious relationship with one of his much younger clients, Kaya, who in turn does not know about his extracurricular activities with someone from his past; and Ali, once again between jobs and broke, uses the borrowed money from her father to deal with her body image issues. What Morton ultimately does tell them at dinner, which is only an associated issue to the main event, has its own repercussions as it sends certain shock waves among the three.—Huggo
